It's not so much specific lines from anime (-style RPGs; I never actually watch anime) that irritate me. It's when the story writers take drama way too far.

It's one thing to mourn the dead; it's not as though Rolf just shrugged and said "Huh, Nei just died. That sucks." But it's a completely separate thing when the protagonist goes "OMG my buddy just died must go emo+goth and cut myself+others and make the rest of the game/show miserable for everyone else - both within and beyond the 4th wall - because nobody's paying attention to me because I'm such a retarded, shallow, underdeveloped, stereotyped loser!"

Makes it so damn hard to find decent RPGs - especially from Japan. Damn, you, Cloud Strife! You've changed RPGs from the noble game of nerds to a wretched, self-loathing BAAAWfest!
