Sadly, my favorite insult, though of a similar vintage, is not on this list.
The OED gives the first in-print reference of ninnyhammer to a Mr. Thomas Nashe in 1592.

Friends and I actually tried this crap in a PSO lobby years ago...somebody emailed a list..
Some of us were...uh, inebriated at the time, so it was pretty amusing.
Everything started to seem Shakespearean after a while, but it probably had devolved into a bunch of random text at that point.

It got me thinking - I could have sworn reading something similar years before (a trip to Ashland, Oregon - the annual Shakespearean festival).
This was in 1987, and I'm pretty sure it was old then...heh.
