Final Fantasy V, Gilgamesh. I love that character. David just beat him in XII.

Gilgamesh showed up in XII?
Damn, I need to finish that game. But it's just so damn HARD!

AlexCraig
Feb 7, 2008, 02:48 PM
I'll see if I can find the video. His intro was perfect! And he uses weapons from other FF games.

Wasn't it called ExcaliPOOR?

AlexCraig
Feb 7, 2008, 02:56 PM
I think that was later. In FFV, where it all began, it was Excalipur.

reminds me... some dude released a pretty good romhack spoof on FFV. It was pretty darn funny, if not liberal with the crass humor.

then the guy said he was updating it be complete and to feature less graphic humor. Obviously, I was dismayed pretty quickly. That was a month ago. Really curious as to how it turned out.

Funny, my copy of FFV says ExcaliPOOR. :3

Gilgamesh is the best Final Fantasy character ever. Forget all these long-haired girly-boys.

I'm a vintage FF player. Gimme 1-6 (and all the intermingling games like Mystic Quest and Adventure) any day.

I like most 1, and 4-6.
7 is just ok.

1 & 2, I never played. Or 3. 4 was good, 5 was okay, 6 I've never played.
7 was okay, but very overrated. 8 is probably my favourite up to yet. 9 I didn't like any of the characters, 10 was okay, 11 never played. 12 just felt like a bit of a spinoff because of the battle system.
CC was good, though http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Oh gods. Mystic Quest. I beat that game when I was six and thus I will always love it. Most epic boss / final dungeon music ever. Srsly. SNES needed more rock themes.

AlexCraig
Feb 8, 2008, 12:53 PM
Yeah. I still have mine. The dialogue was so cheesy, I still love it!

Retniwreven
Feb 8, 2008, 01:06 PM
Actually, now that I think about it, all the music in that game was epic. As were the poses taken by monsters as you beat them up. Also - the dragon claw. How many games give you an extentable, nasty-looking claw that inflicts at least half the status ailments in the game at once, including instant death?

AlexCraig
Feb 8, 2008, 01:08 PM
Well... to an extent, Twilight Princess... and many Zelda games from A Link to the Past on up. But the status thing never really comes into play.

Retniwreven
Feb 8, 2008, 01:10 PM
I don't recall any extendable death-claws in the games past LttP. I didn't play Twilight Princess, though.

The hookshot doesn't count. Metal hook on a chain < Grabbey pointy claw on a rope.

AlexCraig
Feb 8, 2008, 01:12 PM
Chain > Rope.

Retniwreven
Feb 8, 2008, 01:19 PM
It's not the rope that's important, it's what's on the end of it. Black/blue metal claws that forcibly latch onto anything you fire them at are something to be feared. Especially when the claw inflicts the following with a scratch:
Poison, Paralyze, Sleep, Confusion, Blind, Stone, Silence, Death.

AlexCraig
Feb 8, 2008, 01:22 PM
Yeah. Dragon Claw was pretty cool. I just have to send my Zelda input every once in a while *looks at sig*

But, yeah, I think I play Mystic Quest more than.... most other FF games. In fact I am almost willing to say any FF game.

TalHex
Feb 8, 2008, 01:23 PM
what about revenant wings?

Retniwreven
Feb 8, 2008, 01:23 PM
Oh, I'm not saying Link himself isn't a badass. Just that the hookshot could be so much nastier.

AlexCraig
Feb 8, 2008, 01:25 PM
I wasn't saying you were saying Link wasn't a badass. I was merely starting to talk about the technological details of the hookshot. And I think its original purpose (non-game-wise) was not as a weapon so much as a tool.

Retniwreven
Feb 8, 2008, 01:27 PM
Right... but if the tip DID extend into a bunch of grasping, pointy metal claws when you shot it at something, that would be awesome. Also painful.

AlexCraig
Feb 8, 2008, 01:30 PM
Well, through most of the series, it was just a barbed hook on the end. However, once TP came along, they made the Clawshot, which was similar to the Dragon Claw. In fact, later in the game you get a second to make the Twin Clawshot, utilizing both hands.

TalHex
Feb 8, 2008, 01:32 PM
in orical of ages you got the switch hook instead of the hookshot

AlexCraig
Feb 8, 2008, 01:36 PM
This is true. Although, I would rather prefer launching myself to something, rather than switching places with it.

Retniwreven
Feb 8, 2008, 01:44 PM
Especially because this can mean more momentum if you want to hurt what you're landing on.

AlexCraig
Feb 8, 2008, 01:47 PM
Normally, though, there is only land to land on. I mean, granted, you could switch with an opponent if you were on ground that was about to give way underneath you. Then your opponent will fall instead of you. But the odds of that are so slim, you might as well just move off the crumbling land.
