View Full Version : Opinion Of Ep.1 Ending?

I just finished PSO on normal difficulty... and I must say that I am rather disappointed with the ending. All it shows is a Red Ring coming out and that was it. There was no other dialogue or anything for the epilogue. What did you think of the Ep. 1 ending?

There is a little more cinema in Hard, and even more in Very Hard (look in the credits). But, a lot of people are conflicted over what exaclty happens. Make sure you don't read spoilers if people post them.

Now you were reading the journal markers to understand (a little bit) what's going on right? LOL I know at the ending she could of in a soft quiet voice "...Thank you..." after a long damn hard fought battle that you sacrificed to add a few more lvls to beat Dark Falz LOL.

yeah of course i read the journel markers.... it was sad... but at the end it was too inconclusive... i agree she shouldve said thank you or something....
also when you beat the game on a difficulty.... talkin to the principal does nothhing....
none of the npcs mention about the downfall of Dark Falz or mention what is going to happen after Dark Falz's death.

I believe it is meant to leave you wondering, although the outcome is more likely than not a saddening one. This would not be unique to the "Phantasy Star" series, and if anything, would be one of the strongest story-related links connecting PSO to the rest of PS.

My personal belief?

SPOILERS BELOW. YOU HATH BEEN WARNED. YO.

I do believe that -- considering the stories and endings of PSO Episodes I and II -- the lives of those on Pioneer 1 were wiped out. Dark Falz, upon possessing Rico Tyrell's body, proceeded to eliminate the physical bodies of the masses and capture their souls' power for His own use.

Although Heathcliff Flowen survived this mass destruction, he was already hopelessly infected with Falz' own mutating organisms, thus he was as safe as the infected monsters on Ragol -- although he was also as doomed as they to either be slaughtered, or to live a life without sanity.

As the one quest involving the injured young Hildebear implied, all instinctual sense was evidently gone from the animals, as they could not even care for their young any longer.

I could go on for an even longer period of time, as I have thought a lot about the world of PSO. If anything, I find it to tell an incredibly deep story, if you are willing to do a bit of swimming through your own imagination. There's a lot of reading between the lines and filling in the blanks to do. However, I wouldn't call that a weakness; I second the belief that PSO is an excellent character study and an atmospheric world where all the story's details aren't force-fed to you -- you have to be observant enough to catch them. It's necessary to put the pieces together, if you will.

Really, though, Olga Flow is not an entity all its own. Olga is the name of the artificial intelligence which was joined with Heathcliff's mentality, and the "Flow" on the end is just an artistic hint at the former identity of the monster -- Flowen. So, it basically goes like this:

Rogue Artificial Intelligence: Olga
Mutated Human Host: Heathcliff Flowen

Thus, Olga Flow.

I thought that Flowen was another host of DF, but the AI Olga computer is on Val De Gal island... http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_confused.gif

Damn Tavia...thank you. Thank you for letting me look at the world of PSO in a whole new way....you have truly opened my eyes. The story really is much deeper than I thought it was before...wow. Take that, all you people who say it's just a pointless hack and slasher!

Olga was the name of the artificial intelligence counterpart to Cal. In the messages you find in Episode II, you learn that Flowen was part of an experiment which involved combining the Olga AI with him.

Ending? What ending? Images don't make an ending, imo. When I think ending I think story and closure, of which neither exist (especially in episode 2). It's kinda disappointing that the game ends that way. However, if you think about it Sonic Team left the finale open-ended for two reasons. The first is individual interpretation. Everyone can fashion their own opinion on what happens after Falz and Olga are defeated. And secondly is future additions (see episode 2), including sequels which is where they could eventually tie all the loose ends together. I would have preferred an ending with closure, but PSO is not so much about the story as it is about interracting with other players online. Isn't that what multi-player games are for?

To all those newbies who don't know about Olga Flow/Flowen, I made a HUGE summary here: http://www.pso-world.com/viewtopic.php?topic=33939&forum=1

Warning, massive spoilers.

No one's brought up the final picture of the Episode 1 ending on Ultimate when Rico walks into the Principal's office and both Irene and the Principal are in shock.

It's apparent they see her, but is it her or her ghost? She seems solid.

Is the girl in red that Flowed mentions in one of his messages nearing the end of seabed lower referring to Rico or a different person?
