Invalid statement. There must be a legal variable on the left side of the equals sign and a value being assigned to it on the right side. Also, "?" is not a legal variable name.

False, two added to two is not equivalent to question mark.

Hint number 2, coming up:
[spoiler-box]You are supposed to add the numbers here, you know.[/spoiler-box]

As to ? not being a legal variable name, prove it.

I can program in C++. A legal variable name must start with a letter of the alphabet and may be any combination of alphanumeric characters.

Also, the answer must have something to do with basic algebra.

2 + 2 = ?

Simplify! A question mark, in a butchered version of algebra, could be trying to imply. . .

4? == 2 + 2 = ?
