A few questions about PSU, might buy it:
Is PSU any less fun without using the headset?
Can you type in game with a keyboard or use a on-screen keyboard?
Is there much in the lag department when in a group online?
Is the combat anything like PSO?

Thats all http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

1) I play on PC, and I've always been content without any kind of headset or voice. The experience may be different on the 360, since I would assume more people use voice chat.

2) I seem to recall using a keyboard on my 360. Pretty sure you just need one with a USB plug.

3) When I played the game on Live for a brief time, it seemed fairly lag free to me. I guess it would really depend on individual connection speed.

4) Yes and no. It's the same type of action oriented combat, but the gameplay itself is different. I find it reminiscent of PSO.

If you were a fan of PSO, then you would probably find PSU enjoyable.

Just don't think you bought a new PSO, and you should be fine. It is a different game. It is not the new PSO.

I would probably not recommend PSU to someone. It takes a long time to level, level your PAs, and get decent equipment.
I have 2 friends that play. 1 gave it a few weeks, then quit (this is pre-AoI). I have another friend that got sucked into it, and has a level 110 character.

I'm on the 360, so there are plenty of people to play with, but I've found the game only rewards the avid players.

I play on xbox and...
I like the voice chat as an option, when you're playing it can be a lot easier than typing although you can use a keyboard or the on-screen keyboard.
Sometimes there is a problem with lag - depends on your connection and if you experience lag you may want to try a less full universe. And you should just accept that certain areas of certain maps tend to lag a bit.
I never played PSO so I don't know about that.
But overall I really like the game. I have a level 119, 91, 54 and 35 so I don't think leveling is all that hard if you play, especially when they have events like 1 up and the winter event.

1- voice chat, makes the game better but if dont use it then it doesn't take any of the fun away...
2-there is sum lag but not to bad, alot of lag in uni 1 not so much in uni 2 or uni 3.
3-??? not sure wut ur trying to ask???
4-Never played pso.

i couldnt recommend this game anymore. a decent pc will run it with a more consistent framerate. unless im playing with friends i dont even bother with a mic, i'll just turn it on, mute it and leave it sitting on the ground so i dont have obnoxious voices coming through my speakers(more of a live problem than psu specific). you really cant party with any more than four people otherwise you'll be in for quite a choppy experience (unless you're running sakura blast, mother brain, or most of the remaining expansion missions, because you'll be chugging along regardless). the crew responsible for maintaining the servers are the most incompetent group of poo-slinging monkeys to ever ruin a mmo. 10bucks a month for nearly a year and a half now is getting tougher to justify. for now i find myself signing on for no more than 5 minutes a day, just enough time to grab a coin a day at the casino and browse my cards. the only time lately the game has been entertaining is the first couple of days after a new event or mission has been introduced. after that it just turns back into the scavenger hunt it always was. if you want a good rpg, run through mass effect a few times. if you want a good online 360 game, pick up call of duty4.

Its a good game played in moderation, the best "dungeon crawler" type game playable on a console and online. I wish I had picked a human in the beginning because its fun to change classes but not have to level up a new character each time...lol.. it took me a year of playing on and off to figure out what race I love...

I play PSU about 3-4 days a week for a couple hours and its enjoyable. Its not the kind of game I could play every day, but its still fun. I personally dont use voice chat and use a keyboard, the people I play with respect that. If someone doesnt and boots you then they werent worth playing to begin with, good riddance.

With AOI out its easier to lvl up and get mission points so you can easily get to lvl 60 or so playing casually in a week.
I stopped comparing it to PSO and enjoy it more, thats for sure. PSO was more innovative and addictive but I try and appreciate PSU for what it is and its pretty fun in its own right.

If I didn't already have 1000+ hours invested into this game, I wouldn't even recommend PSU to myself. Well, unless you can read Japanese, in which case importing wouldn't be a bad idea. All of the US versions fail so miserably that I wonder why I bother sometimes.

It's really a great game. Easily worth the ten bucks a month.

The lobbies are enriching to look at and idle around, the battle system is very exciting, especially the boss battles. The synthesis and grinding method is genius. The events are always something to look forward to.

If there's one thing that sets PSU apart from the rest of any other RPG, it's definately PSU's the high level of customization. There's an endless amount of customization in this game, for both your avatar(character) and your belongings, much like your room and shop. Phantasy Star Universe is truly the merger or bridge, between the Sims/Animal Crossing series and Online RPGs. You'll find nothing closer of a bridge than Phantasy Star Universe.

The only thing lacking in PSU, is RPG content, but Sonic Team has done a great job adding new missions, lobbies, weapons, armors, Photon Arts etc., etc over the year. Unlike a few users in this thread, Sonic Team has not failed my expectations of delievering and maintaining a wonderful Online Role-Playing Game that equally delivers possibly the most immersive simulation of an economic community out of any other Role-Playing game I've played.

I disagree. That's why sega tweaked the game in the expansion to cater to more casual players. That's why there's a whole slew of threads here complaining about PSU being on "easy mode". That's BECAUSE we've invested a LOT of time leveling Phonton Arts, Personal Machines, character lvl, equipment, store management, casino gambling, etc. The options are there for us to play with, but are no longer a huge requirment to be needed to survive now a days.
Well, at least for most classes. But most of the time, you'd get by as long as you're in a party.

You don't NEED S rank weapons, lvl 31 + Photon Arts, high % 9* weapons, etc. (unless you like to solo a lot. But then why play online?) But you'll end up aiming for equipment this these once you play long enough.

That alone was a good reason for me. It's cheaper than most online MMORPG's and it is good in moderation. There is plenty of things to do on the side, but you can still accomplish them quickly if you play hardcore.

If you are a hardcore MMORPG player, then be a bit more cautious, but if you play every now and then, this game should be perfect for you.

Headsets are like $20....I don't see why you would get one if you have Live.
You can use a keyboard, but that's annoying for me...
Depends on the party....there's some "slow down", but its definitely playable
Errgh....hard to compare to PSO

Why is it that so few people on PSOW can't be positive about PSU? Kinda funny really.

But... PSU is kind of an addiction to me. I love it, but can still live without it. However, if I don't play it for a while... I start to feel a little strange. >_>;

it`s human nature. People instively say the first negative thought that comes to mind when topics like these are asked.
