Does any know for sure yet if SEGA is going to rollback our servers? and when?
I'd like to know if it's worth playing this morning or if I'm just wasting my time.

the new PM items from the exchange quests have caused some weird stuff.

most notably, the deletion of inventories and PA's

So people deserve to be punished for trading for a PM Food item (something legally gained in game), and getting back something glitched?

So I'm guessing it's PS2/PC only then.

I don't think a rollback is necessary unless a large amount of people lose their items. Even then they could still have their items restored if they had a legitimate case and could prove it all. A rollback isn't always the answer.

Its a hell of a lot easier to do a rollback to the entire server then to fix each and every affected character.

When they've rolledback before it has usually been within the day, so if it doesn't happen by the end of the day it probably won't happen.

Looks like someone just shopped the image. It's nowhere on the page and nothing has been posted by ST. You can especially tell by that "shiny new armor" line.
EDIT: Upon further analysis we can see that it is even less credible due to the following: 1)The Geocities account is called PSU Joker, 2) The poster "ShyGuy" has made this account exclusively to post this information; very suspect. *adjusts his moncle. O_-

In this instance, it's probably the best course of action though. While we've only seen a couple of isolated incidents, there's no telling how many people (maybe people who don't use the forums) this has happened to.

Rolling back data would recover anyone who has lost items/had their characters bugged, and it'd give Sega a chance to remove the bugged PM items. I'd imagine most people would prefer getting those items later, rather than running the risk of messing up your characters.

Normally, I'd agree and say that people call a rollback at the slightest of problems, but this has the potential to be a very serious, and more importantly, damaging issue. It'd likely take too much time to sort everyone's items out individually, so a rollback can be used as a blanket to wipe the problem completely.

So, you'll lose a few hours of play, and yeah, it sucks if you've found something nice/grinded a Psycho Wand to 10 or something, but when you look at it from the whole community point of view, a rollback would be a minor inconvenience.

Shiro_Ryuu
Feb 22, 2008, 01:52 PM
Yeah, I'm hoping there's a rollback. People are losing lots of stuff to this glitch thingy, things they've worked pretty hard for, so I agree that it would be the best course of action.

Zalinian

If they can track down people who glitched the grinders, they can track down the people who bought this and roll their character back. Or they could just put a bulletin up (in game) telling everyone who was effected how to contact them to get their characters rolled back.

HOW NAIVE! I don't think that would be wise. Think about it, you can go grind your weapons, have they at crappy grindes at like 4/4, or 2/2, or even fail synths, report that they were glitched, and rollback for their own personal profit? PSH I think not.

I know people are yapping about "stop using rollback for every situation" but for something like this it's absolutely necessary. Less than a day's worth of data will be lost, which is minimal, and this was ST's fuckup. Losing your inventory and PAs is a HUGE issue.

Technically they never did use rollback for anything, they've only done it twice.

I'm talking about people saying "stop thinking there's going to be a rollback for every problem", when this is an obvious case when one should and probably will occur.

Feb 22, 2008, 03:00 PM
If the inventory issue only happened to a small grouo of players they can restore individual accounts so there is absolutely no need to roll everyone back. If the number of accounts that had the issue becomes too many to easily manage, they will roll back us all. In this case it doesn't seem like the problem happened to the majority of people. I know people who bought the PM things from collector and had no issue actually.

I guarantee you they will still roll everyone back as the easier fix. Which is lame. How about just performing the updates correctly and testing everything you just put in before opening the servers to the world? You know... like most people do.

Finding data and banning players is easy.

Reading e-mails then finding data for a lot of potential players who had no idea about the glitch and having to restore each of their items exactly as they were = next to impossible.

I really dont see why. Surely all they have to do is make an announcement giving people an address to email if you've lost all your stuff, then check the inventory data from a day or 2 ago (they must have the data or else a rollback wouldn't be possible) to check they are legit, then rollback their character.

If they had the ability to check people synthesis/inventory records for glitched grinders, surely checking their inventory for a glitched pm device is pretty much the same?

goaferboy
Feb 22, 2008, 03:13 PM

If Japan gets all this content 2-3 months before we get it, how come we keep getting bugged stuff. That PA Frag exploit that JP players got away with a long time ago was fixed before we got it. Yet when we exploit we get banned, and when we get content its bugged.
I think SEGA is discriminant against non-JP players.

I don't think all of the game data is the same...remembering how the Deva-zashi was still a banned/unreleased flag when it was a drop-able item in an update. This was probably something similar.

People need to get through their heads that SoA is rollbacking the PS2/PC server not only to correct the lost data by the few players, but to get rid of all of the PM items (which I'm sure, a majority of the community did).

It would be more satisfying to go through each of the *likely* 15 rare cases where one of their characters lost all of his or her stuff, but it's a completely other story when SoA has to track down each and everyone who bought a PM food item, then rid it from the server. Not everything is as easy as some of you might assume.

lulz, small world.
I was there when the rollback happened, but I was sitting with death by snu-snu. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Stupid rollback. I got a Skela, a shitload of Catilium and Mot Walna, 300k EXP, a pass to Moatoob, and 500k meseta. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_argh.gif

Well, it's probably for the best... This way they can make sure that each and every corrupt item is removed from the game, and the affected players will get their stuff back as well. Although I've been doing runs the whole day I don't really mind, it's better to get it over with than doing the rollback later.

You can more than likely say goodbye to them, they're probably going to the nearest possible point before the update occured. It sucks, but what happened to everyone else was much worse.

No. They're rolling back to when the servers came back online after the update. (Which means whatever you did since 1 am is now gone.)

I kinda agree. If you know something's wrong with it, and all doesn't seem normal, why would you go ahead a use it anyway? That's like actually standing there as a person puts up a sign saying "Beware! High Voltage Fence!", and then you just waltz up and dandily decide to toss your body into it. It makes no sense.

WTF is making everyone think that most people knew when they did it??

Sorry, should have been more specific. We're referring to the people who heard about the glitch, then went RIGHT ahead (on SIGNIFICANT chars) and "tried it out for themselves! a-hur-hur :B".

Do that, and you'll get flamed with millions of "We don't care STFU n00b" bubbles. =/

Or you'd just get flooded by that gif again back here on PSOW. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

Glad I spent the day in bed http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
It made me chuckle when I logged in though and saw the announcement make its lazy way across the top of my screen.
Why you may ask?
Well I had to wonder what is an "Emergancy"?

It's really amazing how much is done on Friday morning. People find an inordinate amount of items, make large amounts of money and level PA frags 18 levels. Synths ALWAYS come out at a high percentage and rares drop like soldonium....

Well, the debug/test mission part was, but the rollback part certainly wasn't.

I know, right? Makes you wonder sometimes if people are just making up things to whine about... <_< But what would you gain from that? It's not going to bring it all back, or make it magically happen. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_razz.gif
