View Full Version : My pet laptop is dying :(

I'm actually kinda sad. All I did was put my flash drive in my laptop and it got a blue screen of death. Naturally I just turn it off and turn it back on but it also gave me a multiple harddrive error as well. Being that is was 6AM I thought they said I had like two harddrives(which would've been awesome).

Anyway long story short, its System 32 file is either corrupt or missing. Which SHOULD be easy to fix but Windows XP Media Center Edition, at least the version I have is not availible in stores. So I'm kinda five finger $%*^ed here. I may be able to repair it with another Windows XP CD but I'd have to find one.

When I first got my laptop I used to get blue screens once every Saturday for three months. Then it stopped being a jerk and I haven't seen one for three years. Which was the day it messed up http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif.

Check the manufacturer of your laptop and the exact model and name of it. You should be able to phone to the company and order system restore disks for about thirty bucks.

I believe I have 2004 edition. Apparently where the registration key sticker is the part where it tells you what version of Windows is installed is ripped a bit. The full registration key is there but it says "Windows XP Media Center Edition 200-". Cut off right there D:

EDIT: 30 bucks you say? That's great news. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Sorry, sympathy and human kindness don't live here. I think you dialed the wrong forum.

But, really, assuming you've googled the problem extensively and tried everything you could, best of luck to you!

Still have the warranty? If so, check to make sure they cover accidents (such as Dell's Accidental Care thingy).

If they indeed do, break that some bitch and send 'er in.

If your harddrive has somehow become incapacitated, a reformat/reinstall of windows probably won't cure a hardware-related issue.

Well the warranty ran out ._.

Though I'll see what I can do with this method here. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
Just need a Windows XP CD which shouldn't be too hard to get. Funny thing though, I asked for help on another forum asking what I should do. Either this was a joke account or an actual Customer Service employee but it shocked me http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif.

If you did not get a Windows reinstallation CD (not a recovery CD, but an actual Windows disk) with the computer then you can have one sent to you by calling Dell tech support. If you don't feel like calling tech support you can contact me by PM and I'll be happy to set up to have the disk sent to you.

All of the drivers from Dell are available for download from our support website (http://support.dell.com). If you need to know what drivers should be loaded for your system just let me know what model of Dell notebook you have. The one driver most people miss is Dell Notebook System software (used by most Dell notebooks). This software is basically the Dell specific portions of the chipset software.

EDIT: This was on a DDR forum.
