Well, I lost. Prizes weren't worth it either.

Turns out it wasn't cash or a check, but a gift card to some local game-trading store. (You know the type, over-priced, horrible condition games.)

I did however meet someone who has the potential to be a friend; which is cool. :3

Now, why I lost:

Stock match.
I used a controller worse than Mad Katz. (Didn't know I could bring my own!)
I played an EXTREME fanboy who, like PD said, thought running back and forth was a ground-breaking technique.

This guy comes up to me, "so, we're facing each other in the next round."

"Oh cool, well good luck to you."
"Who do you play as?"
"Roy, you?"
"Marth." he does some hand motions, like he's preparing to lecture me, "Now the difference between Roy and Marth."

"yeah I know, sword tip, and counter-type."
"Oh I see...."
I shrug him off and go about my business waiting for the next round.

When it finally starts, I'm stuck on the only TV with bad controllers. Lame. =/

Oh well, I'll make-do. Match starts, I'm naturally tearing him apart when suddenly, my guys runs off the stage. Chalk one up for bad controller. (This happened a few times in our 2/3 matches.)

What this guy did, made me so angry, he's one of those, "LOL STOCK STAY OUT OF THE WAY UNTIL EVERYONE HAS HIGH PERCENTS OR ON LAST LIFE!"

Which is exactly what he did. ._.

Oh well, my goals were accomplished. :3
