how do they work exactly? can you equip weapons with it

It is a left handed weapon that autofires. You can only equip 1 handed right handweapons with it (ie, saber, slicer, wand, dagger, single claw, whip, etc.)It's basically just a one handed gun.

Also, the status effect it causes depends on both the element and its star rating. For example, an A-rank earth element will cause level 4 poison, while an S-rank earth element will cause level 2 stun. The type of shot it fires also depends on the star rating. I've never understood how the TECH mag works, but then again i've never used one.

Also, don't forget that the writeup (in the link given here) about Ranged Mags is that they utilize the player's TP stat in their power. Since they tend to act like bullets, a lot of people would assume it used the ATP stat.
