A section ID calculator with ANSI C source included. Also comes with a precompiled WIN32 console executable. This program will correctly calculate section IDs.

I'm trying to use it but it closes itself right after it opens.

mm...try running in win95 or win 98 mode on XP?

open up a command prompt by running the program "command." You need to run the program from this window since it's a console application.

Why not just use the one on this site

Good question (I'm assuming you're talking about the php calculator):
1.) Mine doesn't have bugs in it
2.) There's source code
3.) The source code looks nice http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wink.gif

Ha. Anyway, if you don't want it, don't download it.

Speaking of these things, the best one I've ever seen so far is the one at the link at the bottom of the page. It's a flash SWF file. If you have the standalone flash player (Mine came with a copy of flash but I bet there's others around here.) it works great, just save it, associate SWF to the player, double click and presto. Nice looking and works well. (Things look so much better when displayed on the stand alone player. True full screen display.)

You are right Ruby-Clan, that is one very nice looking Section ID Calculator, that you have stumbled across. But I am sorry to report that it has one minor // major flaw in it,and that is in the fact that you can create a name with unlimited characters in it http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif.

The limit to the amount of characters A.K.A letters ,that an P.S.O character can have in his name is 12.The one that you use allows you to have upwards of 100+ characters, http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_eek.gif so if a newbie tried out that section "ID" calculator,he could spend an very long time coming up with a name that he likes with his desired section "ID".Only for it to end up being to big.

This could also cause an slight problem if you are attempting, to use the space modifacation trick,to recieve an certain color.

Please do not mistake this as trying to put down your ID Calculator,:) but check this one out and you will see that it clearly tells you if your name is to long or not, what section "Id" you will recieve and what they are good at finding http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif.

Oh yes, I know about that little flaw, but well I wanted something small, quick, and that changed the ID listed as I typed. Easy on the eyes too. However the one you've linked to is simply amazing.

does this also work with Ep.1&2? i mean, no changes with the findings?

since i still have time, i'll redo my character-plannings / check if everything's acceptable.

thanks for that great link. i was there before but lost the url somehow...

I use this one, it's written in flash but usable offline, changes ID as you type each letter.

Not a single one of the above calculators work correctly, atleast not if you put in numbers. I have a RAmar named Marcus329 in PSO and his section ID is Greenill, however all calculators makes him something else. (mostly Whitill and Oran.)

The formula for Section ID hasn't changed from DC, has it? The GC uses the same formula, right?

The section ID formula seems like an easy specification to write code for it, so why are so many calculators running into problems with numbers in the name?

Wtf are you trying to pull? The name "Marcus329" is ORAN. I even went and tested it in PSO and it was ORAN. BTW, if a calculator got a result other than ORAN, it has bugs in it. Please fix it. If you need an example of a working calculator look at my source code.

What you talking about. My Marcus329 in PSO Pal version is a Greenill. (hmm, offcourse it's possible that I haven't written it with a big M in the beginning, but if I write with small in the above calculators, it will be Whitill)

Ok. The name "Marcus329" is definitely ORAN. "marcus329" is definitely WHITILL. As I was saying some most of the calculators have errors in them which could be easily fixed, but I wouldn't rely on them. And no, both names are NOT GREENILL.

Did you put a space at the end?

Omikron
01-24-2003, 01:04 PM
Did you add space(s) at the end of the name, or left any by accident while editing it?

"Marcus329" = Oran
"Marcus329-" = Whitill
"Marcus329--" = Greenill
"Marcus329---" = Bluefull

And so on...

Ps: the dashes stand for spaces because putting many spaces didn't show in the post

hmm, maybe I left a space after the name when I created the character then or something like that, and then he turned in to a Greenill. Just checked on the calc on my computer and this is the way I musta been writing it: "marcus329 " Well then all the above calculators work just fine. (I feel this small right now - <--) Well anyway, as I look at it Greenill is the best ID for a RAmar so I was realy quite lucky then eyy.

the Sec Id Calc that eXo posted, has been dead on in every test that i tried. Now i have no idea about some friggin source code, but i know that when i tried various names in both the calc, and in PSO GC they matched perfectly.

It's a console application, so extract to c:windowstemp or something run the program "command
" and..
1.) Change the current directory: cdwindowstemp
2.) Run the program: sectid "<yourname>"
