It's mostly that it's WAY too short and loops too often that hurts it, were it not so repetetive it wouldn't be so nerve grating.

Yeah but...some of those songs were catchy enough to where being repetitive didn't annoy you. Besides, technology was limited back then and you could only do but so much. There's no excuse for it now besides laziness on the composer's part. This song actually has potential if they added more to it and didn't loop it so often.

Maybe it was just so embarrassing that you can't help but laugh at the rap. (Kind of like the Pokemon rap, but I seriously think the Pokemon one was a lot worse. Alot of PSU's songs are either hit or miss. Except by hit, I mean it's kind of good, and by miss, I mean the composers should go back to composition 101. I can't believe they'd actually call this anything near passable music.

The best thing ST could do for PSU is assign the PSO composers to do the music tracks for this game again, because they guy they have now is epic garbage. That, and maybe pay for some better recording.

I mean i really need to make a topic about this. I just did research on the music for this game, and found out something really...odd...

If you people check the credits for PSU's Music composition, you'll see the ENTIRE list of great music composers that worked on the PSO tracks, except if you actually get the soundtrack and listen to the BGMs of the stages, you'll notice that the people who did so great on PSO have rarely done much of anything.

Take a look at the composers, and tell me who did a good job

--Save This World--

Vocals: Kelli Sae (ugh...)
Composed&Arranged : Hideaki Kobayashi (PSO composer)
Lyrics (the problem..) : Kan Hishimoto (dont know em. Apparently sucks eggs at writing lyrics.)

--With You-- (PSU ending theme. Best vocal track out of all phantasy star titles. Hell, best vocal track Sega has EVER been responsible for, PEROID. )

Vocals: Lita Harvey (someone outside sega. I didnt put orchestra studio, but they are also outside sega.)

Composed & Arranged by : Fumie Kumatani and Kenichi Tokio.

(Fumie is that genius chick behind most of Jet Set Radio Future/Sonic Rush music, as well as PSO tracks.) (Kenichi is the guy who wrote "A Whole New World" as well as the lyrics for Save This World.)

Lyrics by: Fumie Kumatani, Translated by Ken Hishimoto.

(WOW, HERE LIES THE DIFFERENCE between THIS and that "Save This World" abomination. Fumie does the lyrics for this track and its sung by someone who can actually sing.)

Tracks by Fumie Kumatani :

Ohotku City, Hakura Temple (favroite level music in game), most of the Neudaiz Music. Edit: From looks of it, i think ALL the Neudaiz BGM tracks are her doing. I like the Neudaiz tracks the most out of the game btw.

Tracks by Kenichi Tokio :

Most all the Moatoob tracks (ugh...), Most all of the SEED contamination music (Okay, but still ughhh..), and that atrocious HIVE music. (UUUGHHHHH GOD)

Tracks by Hideaki Kobayashi :
De Ragan Boss music (Epic to me, even though boss dies so quick) Old Mellvore ruins stage, Raffon Meadow, Cylez Linear Line/Train stage, Relics stages (sleeping and awoken)

Dunno about you guys, but one of the main reasons i hate Moatoob is its horrible music. Which is the same reason i hate the Linear Line and HIVE missions as well.

Personally i believe Kenichi should be EXPELLED from da PSU music squad for sucking so bad and ruining over 4 stages and a Themesong. The only track he did that i enjoy is the Valentine lobby music -__-;

The worst part of it is, they may have had a pretty decent song (I mean, as far as lame marching band shit goes) but they just said "ahh fuck it" and left it like this to be used as a joke. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

[spoiler-box]Who said we are lost again
In this lonely world
I say we can start again
We're on the same ship
It's called starship earth

It is not too late
It's our home
So don't say that it's fate
We must not give up
To build our future on our dreams

We will never lie down and die
But we'll find a way to survive
We all have somebody we love
We know that's why we're here

We battle for freedom
It is a battle against the dark
I have my dreams
You know I'm not afraid of bleeding
"It is the time!"
We battle for tomorrow
It is a battle against time
And we can do miracles
So take my hand
We need to save this world

It was a hard time
So many tears
It's all not for nothing
To give up is not a choice
It's a fight we have to win

I cannot live without faith
Even if I am faced with death
We all have somebody we love
We know that's why we're here

We battle for freedom
It is a battle against the dark
We all have dreams
And each of them is to be realized
"It is the time!"
We battle for tomorrow
It is a battle against time
Too many tears
Have been shed with the same fear
We need to save this world

We will never lie down and die
But we'll find a way to survive
We all have somebody we love
We know that's why we're here

We battle for freedom
It is a battle against the dark

Sadly mediocracy is not a firable offense at sega. And it's already in the game data, so there's not much that can be done about it.

And you like the valentine music!!? It sounds like some bad Charlie Brown rehash. I don't think there's any good music by kenichi.

i liked the original save the world song. i remember hearing it on trailers before PSU came out and liked the over all composition of it. nothing i would drop in my mp3, but it's a style they pulled off well. what i hate about the song is all the remixes of it and that you hear it everywhere. There really don;t need to be that many versions of it, and it doesn't need to play before each story mission.

I'm always adding in:

"I'm gonna take you for a ride!!"
"Yeah... To the Chaos Dimension!"

"I'm gonna take you for a ride!!"
"Uh huh. Yeah. To the Chaos Dimension!"

And if you want a truly annoying loop, how about the "La La" song from N64's Yoshi's Story. The one that played over and over again.

I think you're overestimating how difficult it is to compose a song. Yes, it may seem hard, because you haven't studied it. But if you live for music like some people live for their jobs, it's really not that hard to get a decent composition going. Hell, my mother can spit them out easily enough, and she didn't even graduate with a master's in music. They even end up sounding pretty damn good.

What's unacceptable to me is, this isn't its own song. This is a variation of a song used at the beginning of v1. How do they take a mediocre passage and make it even worse?

You can use this excuse when talking about Reskins and levels and such, but not when talking about music. Aside from Kenichi, know for a FACT that the composers working on this game are NOT newbies and in fact have done some music memorable by far more than just PSO/PSU fans.

The only thing holding them back would be a budget and the amount of equipement they are given to work with. Fumie and Hideaki both did an AMAZING job in PSO, espically Episode 1&2, and the only difference between the work back then and the work now is the amount of emphesis Sonic Team put on the orchistra this time around...

...Which is non-existant. Every BGM on this game with the exception of perhaps the main themes and ending theme is synthesized. That is the reason for the horrible music this game is plauged with.

And the FUNNY thing is, given Sonic Team's record, the best thing about their videogames are usually ALWAYS the music, while the gameplay itself suffers. Its like in PSU they sacrificed the music to get better gameplay. Take Sonic the Hedghehog 06 for example. Fucking worst gameplay since Superman 64, amazing soundtrack.

SA2 had both, though.

Yeah, SA2 was the last game that Sonic Team really went blow-out on. For its time it was one helluva a game, and it had more work put into it than any game Sonic Team has done since that time.

Another funny Music fact about PSU:

You guys know Kelli Sae, who they got to do Save This World and For Brighter Day? Well, i did a standard Youtube check just to see if Sega really just tried to get the worst singer for a themesong they could possibly find.

I came across one of her own albums instead.

And from the sounds of it...she really isnt that bad a singer at all.

In fact, shes damn good. Far better than i ever could have predicted her to be judging from her performance in PSU's horrible themesongs.

Good singers come a dime a dozen; they're really not hard to find. kelli sae has a great voice, it fell through on who ever did the writing and arranging.

There's worse music in PSU.

Your game runs awfully slow....I wouldn't be able to play like that, hence why I run on Frame skip 2

Personally i believe Kenichi should be EXPELLED from da PSU music squad for sucking so bad...

I'm not sure if you can truly blame him.
The fact is, the directors (or one of the higher uppers) TELLS him he needs to make music in accordance to a specific theme.
ie. Neidaiz = Japanese, Guardians Colony = "sci-fi" etc etc.

His greatest music were in PSO Ep III:
Tower of Caelum, Cyber, Via Tubus, Hi, Guys!

It all comes down to the THEME.
I guess he just isn't experienced enough to make music to some generic crappy desert planet.
Blame his bosses, blame the Moatoob "theme", but blaming only the composer is just wrong.

But this one is a bit annoying since it's so repetitive, but it doesn't necessarily burn my ears.

Hmm, the music didn't bother me. If I can sit through "Let's get it on now! Select and make your first pick. Let's get it on yo! 10 9 8 7 6." For hours on end with Street Fighter 3 and "I'm gonna take you for a ride." with Marvel vs. Capcom 2, I can handle a short looping orchestral piece for 4/5 mins.

So your blaming Moatoob itself for having bad music?

That makes zero sense, lol. The composer is told what feel to create. He just sucks at creating a good feel. His music is just terrible compared to the composers he works with. Perhaps he isnt good in the Videogame music field.
