I believe that a multiplayer PSU demo included on gaming magazines or as some kind of limited time download event, could be really useful in boosting the ailing PS2/PC population.

For example, if PC gamer included a time limited copy of the PSU client, and a 1 month free subscription to the game (linked to the client.) Or, if Fileplanet and SEGA set up a special trial event, where players could download a trial key/game client and play for a month (or however long would be suitable.) Preferably, this event would allow players to buy the full client and subscribe, while keeping their character data (although I suppose that could have negative side effects.)

There are certainly plenty of free universes that could be put aside for such an event :/[/spoiler-box]

For a game like PSU, I believe this sort of advertising would be a cheap and effective method for attracting (and hopefully hooking) new players into the game. I also believe this is one of the reasons the Xbox360 has a substantially larger playerbase.

PSU is a much better game now that AotI and a bunch of updates have gone by, it just seems a pity that so few people seem to know about it.

Just judging from my opinions on the 360 demo, Id say that no, it cant possibly help bring in population, but Im pretty sure you guys wouldnt have a bunch of kids spamming for free items and pornsites all day like they do on the 360 demo, so I dont know.

It might draw a few people in, but I think there's too much potential for others to ruin it in the same way the 360 demo has been.

I dunno, I think the 360 demo has done well to bring in new people to the 360. I've talked to 3 people in person who subscribed after trying the game.

The reason the 360 population is so big is because you can try the game out for free. It's a free online rpg demo that's always sitting in the marketplace, it's like forever advertising. As for the PC/PS2 servers, there's no advertising going on at all for that. Plus there's too much risk to try it. What if I paid full price for a game and then paid for a subscription only to find that I hated the game?

Certainly a demo of the PC version would help the population grow.

Best way to get other people to play PSU is to spread the word among your "leet gaming circles." There was a period where i was running around with 4 lackies from the "leet gaming circles" causing havok among parum. Most of them quit because the drop rate of PSU is byfar the most annoying among online games.

Other games you can be determined to get an item and you will eventually get it. PSU however you can be determined all you want for that dream item and you will probably never get it. Atleast thats how it was before AoI. Ive mentioned the significant increase in drop rates with the expansion, and its technically 'free' content (pay to subscribe) and two former PSU players are back in carnaging the universe.

I'd love more of my real friends to play, but they are all. "OMFG 10 A MONTH NO WAY SCREW THAT"

Fucking idiots, that's like 3 big macs and a drink.

I can sort of understand that. The problem on the PC is that there's a ton of MMOs that seem to come out every other month, all touting some form of Free play and with complete demos out on them. None of them play quite like PSO, but some of them are definitely action-oriented. There is this growing mentality of skipping out on Monthly-payment games unless it's the biggest names, and often enough, they'll pick just one and stick with it.

It's getting harder to be the new guy and charge a monthly payment plan for a PC game, especially with so many others providing options that don't have a month payment plan, but have micro-transactions for certain stuff instead.

However, they may be part of a growing list of casual dungeon hackers who really never devote to a game, they simply like to jump in and hack around every now and then.

I think its too late,I mean sure we'd get a few ppl,but nothing that can add another star in our universe,it'll probably be like the 360 demo, that ppl fail to see that its only a demo and keep saying things like why should I pay for the real game?unless its like the WoW trial in which they let you play on the real servers but with limited things to do,like you can't trade, and other stuff. But if it's like the 360 demo, where its just sitting there, nah I wouldn't want it.I'd rather have a low population then a high population of dicks(then again even with our low population,I still manage to run across the daily spammer/asshole).
