"Cute".

I hate that word with all my soul. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_mad.gif

Sometimes it's the only thing I can use though.

"Duh!" I just hate that with a passion, no9t sure why though. And when people say "It's common sense," because frankly the people who overuse this phrase lack it entirely.

I used to say "Duh", but now I just reply with sarcasm.

Lol @ Common sense.

I hate the people in class, that think they're so cool by saying something stupid while we're trying to do something, and everybody laughs. They are idiots! http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_mad.gif

When I ask a question and the person I ask doesn't say a thing. Nothing.

Makes my skin crawl like no other.

When I say something, and someone asks me why.

"Man, I was so sick yesterday."
"Why?"

People who use your when they should use you're, and vice versa.
People who think 'u', 'r', and 'y' are acceptable to use on their own as words.
People who get off the bus at McDonalds in the morning.
People who ask me stupid questions.
People who never read the wiki/guide about ANYTHING.
People who I have to explain the same thing to seven times before they understand it.
People who dress their dogs up in costumes and/or plaid turtlenecks.
People who think they're 'All that'.
People who never capitalize anything, or capitalize EVERYTHING.
Cilantro.
Malt Vinegar.
Oh so many more things.

For some reason, anything at any time for any reason or none at all could annoy me. It's probably a mood-related issue.

Though, it doesn't happen too often. I think.

People who say 'could of' instead of 'could have'.
I see it all the time on these forums.
When this generation becomes goverment, it'l probably turn into a grammar rule anyway http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Random groups of people who say "Hello" when you walk past.

Grrr..

Spanglish or anything of the sort, loanwords are one thing, but don't go arbitrarily snagging words from another language for no reason (such as saying "kawaii" instead of "cute") or trying to speak spanish by throwing O's on the ends of words. I hate it. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

"Hey, *friend name here*. How've you been?"
"Eh."
"Oookaaayyy... What's been going on?"
"Nothing."
"Nothing?"
"Mm-hmm."

I agree Alex, that is kind of annoying.

Okay, I am a total nitpicker about written grammar. When you speak incorrectly, sure, it can't be helped. (Force of habit, perhaps.) But when you write or type...man, the mistakes people can make.

Misguided linguistic prescriptivism, which typically takes the form of carping about "incorrect grammar" and is based in a comically thorough misapprehension of language's many aspects and applications.

Actually, I find the words describe what I mean quite well.

In any case, is the fact that I am annoyed by people throwing around silly "grammar rules" more insulting to the perpetrators than getting worked up and calling folks out for "bad grammar"? Are you even certain I'm talking about anyone in this thread? Could it be the low-level aggravation expressed over phrases such as "should of"--which, I can't deny, also bumps my irritation meter up a notch--only reminds me of those who begin to foam at the mouth and spew all sorts of nonsense about the rape of the English language! when they see a sentence-final preposition or fail to adhere to the arbitrary "rules" propagated by the Strunk and White groupies?

Now, what I find aggravating is the fact that those in charge of writing language arts curricula (curriculums, if you find the former pretentious) seem content to hand down arbitrary rules--amongst, of course, plenty of solid information on writing in standard English (or whatever other language)--that are usually left unexplained and are based on crazy-wrong justifications in the first place!

Can we be friends now?

I do realize that I don't really call people out on their written grammar errors. I just laugh to myself and, if it's a sign in public, point it out to whoever I'm with.

So, yes, we can be friends again. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_wacko.gif

Hey now, are you arguing against Strunk and White? Have they not set themselves as emperors of the English language? Do we not deliver them tribute daily? Are we not electrocuted hourly as a reminder of their awesome power?

Oh? We're not?

Still good to read Strunk and White, but not to go all crazy with it.

I enjoy half-decent grammar. The occasional comma, the useful period... Even the stately hyphen. I'm by no means perfect, but as long as someone makes an EFFORT to use understandable grammar I'm quite happy.

Follow up with, "I asked a direct question B!"

B optional, but for effect, go with the B.
