I'm guessing they've played HSM S and have found the the end room/ block to be;
A) IMPOSSIBLE
B) rediculous amounts of enemies
C) It's not actually S rank it's extremely easy
D) there is no end

some nub actually died in that room, so I hit the box. One person died, one was untouched, and I had 500/2700 HP left.

I guess it only hits certain areas of the room, perhaps random areas.

Egg Thieves S and HSM S are pretty hardcore. I suppose it wouldn't be so hard in a team that is on the ball and knows exactly what to do and where to go, but I've only seen the S-rank to ET S once ... and I've not even seen the end of HSM S.

I've never died from the box and I don't find the last room particularly difficult. The mission as a whole is very challenging, but I just go in there and run behind the kagajibari (http://www.pso-world.com/beastiary/psu/1/18/kagajibari/) and pin them in the corners with mayalee fury.

Giresta heals you instantly if you have regen "saved up", so if he had giresta active for a while and the regen saved up, the trap could have knocked him down to 1% hp, then giresta would have healed him to 600hp or whatever he had.

I feel with the right team, this can be done. We made the final room numerous times, Our high lvl CAST Figh or the Beast AF would take care of "THE END" Once that happened, we would always run out of time attempting to clear the room. I'm sure it can be done...just need to tweak things here and there. The team was quite solid.
