View Full Version : Challenge: Because I've lost faith in Off Topic

I'm remaking this thread here.

This by in no means was influenced by the weapon topics you're having to suffer through. =/

I'm working much more on my novels lately and require assistance in finding weapon types or styles of a particular weapon.

I've researched quite a few thus far, from how they're created/forged to how to properly use them in a fight. (some to the point where I practice with them on a daily basis. lol.)

So, what I need is for you to be like, "Hey lawl, check out the Tonfa! (insert picture here)" Then I'll promptly look it up across the internets and decide if I like it enough but more importantly, give it to a character the style of fighting would fit.

If you want to save me a little bit of time, feel free to describe some of it's attributes to me.

So:

1. Weapon name.
2. Weapon class.
3. Picture of said weapon.
4. (optional) Quick description.

Please try very hard to have it be a "real" weapon! If you're taking one from a game be sure it could effectively work in combat!

I also thank you in advance; I'm very busy and don't have the time to gather all this information myself, or else I would. XD

Understandable that the sole hero would be hugely in demand for solving the world's problems and thus must delegate to lower life forms.

Name: Giant Mutant Crab
Class: Animal
Picture: http://hawkeye1.net/images/Okinawa/GIANT_CRAB.jpg
Description: Years of chemical waste in our waters has unintentionally created this beast. With the power to crush boulders in its claws, climb walls, and blast icy air from its mouth (Gibarta?), this formidable foe can take down most any opponent. With its durable (adamant) shell, it is resilient to just about any attack. To control said crab, you must be absolutely sure that it believes you are its master. If not, you will end up like the man in the picture.

While I was serious.

You guys make me laugh. =D

I forgot to mention, in case this becomes serious: the story takes place before guns 'n stuff. So, swords, bostaffs, bows, etc. etc. is the type of stuff I'm looking for.

And I know I can just make stuff up, but in a lot of cases I'd like to have a basis to go off of. :3

oh i've seen those! sora from .hack//SIGN uses a weapon sort of like that (except they retract)

name: oriental spear
class: oriental weaponry
pic: http://www.shaolinchimantis.com/Images-M/Products-M/SCM-102/WhiteWaxWoodSpear-101a-72-s.jpg
description: spear like those found in western cultures except it is complete with a red sash, the sash was placed there to allow the wielder to see the point of the spear (allowing slashing attacks as well as thrusts) and to prevent the blood of the enemy from running down the shaft and ruining the grip of the wielder

edit: damnit, must not have copied when i told it to

The Orient is a geographic region in Asia.

Katars do pop up now and then, they make for very exotic weaponry without having to make anything up.

here's something that is completely practical and would be easy to make in any smithy: a crowbar

it can be used in any manner from swinging the large curved end like a club, to hooking somebody with it. It's very thick, and provided you watch your fingers could deflect most other weapons without taking much damage at all. It can also help you to bust down doors, open crates, pry out nails, hammer them in, and you won't look as suspicious carrying one around as a full fledged weapon would make you look.

a crowbar is indeed the choice of professionals

Or hasn't been called the Orient since Columbus. (Kinda like "Hispanics and Hispania, I ain't never been there." - G.Lopez "WHAPAYA!" G.Lopez's "Bruce Lee" SFX)

Nowadays we have Colombo.

That guy in the BBC series Mind Body and Kicking moves goes all over the world to meet martial arts masters.

He did visit some soccer field/ninja samurai weapon room with all kinds of stuff people might go gaga over.

I found the Chi using monks, performers, and disciples in China the most interesting. Also wushu was practiced, looks fun.
