View Full Version : Japanese PC/PS2 update for April 10! (Fires of Illusion!)

Seasonal lobby
The cherry blossoms are in full bloom across Gurhal! Enjoy the scenery from April 10 until May 08. (Note: Originally this seasonal lobby was set to end on April 24.)

GUARDIANS Boost Road
This time it's for Neudaiz. This GBR will be running from April 10 until May 08 with a drop boost bonus. The missions this time are:
* Hill of Spores
* Dancing Birds
* Sakura Warpath (new mission)
* Sacred Stream
* White Beast

New free mission
Sakura Warpath (http://psupedia.info/Sakura_Warpath) (C-S2, Saguraki C.D. to Ohtoku City)
After the collapse of the Illuminus, some spies were revealed to be active within the Communion of Gurhal. Now they've armed themselves and taken refuge in the Saguraki C.D. Track down and suppress the rebels!

New rare free mission
Fires of Illusion (http://psupedia.info/Fires_of_Illusion) (C-S, random counter)
Following the discovery of Rykros, a mysterious cave has been spotted by eyewitnesses, appearing and disappearing all over Neudaiz. High nanotransformer activity has been detected in the area, but its cause is unknown...
* The method of getting a rare free mission has changed slightly. With this update, your chances of getting the mission will increase if you have more players in your party. (They must be in the field; a party member in the lobby will not help.) Furthermore, the amount of time it takes to clear a mission will have an effect on your chances of a rare mission appearing. If a mission is cleared in less than five minutes, there is no chance of a rare mission appearing. From five minutes and up, however, the longer a mission takes, the better the chances of a rare mission appearing. Note that anywhere over 30 minutes will not increase the chances of an appearance above the maximum probability. Also, if players join mid-mission, in order for their play time to go toward increasing the chances of finding a rare mission, they must have been in the mission for at least 80% of the total time spent.

New S2 missions
* Sakura Blast
* White Beast
* Hill of Spores
* Dancing Birds
* Sacred Stream

Enemy adjustments
Adjustments have been made to the following missions which will disallow players from semipermanently engaging enemies in battle (for the purpose of AFK leveling photon arts, for example):
* The Black Nest
* Seal of the Dark God
* Maximum Attack G'
* Mad Creatures
* Plains Overlord
* Endrum Remnants
* Duel in the Ruins
* Scarred Planet
* Grove of Fanatics
* The Results of Ambition (story mission)

Item exchange mission
Electric Festival (http://psupedia.info/Electric_Festival) (Dagora GUARDIANS Branch)
Bring any extra Zon Drops and Zon Spheres you have from the Dengeki Mission Carnival to trade in for some interesting items! (This mission will contain some of the items from DMC's exchange mission.)

New items
* New Casino Voloyal items will be added to the exchange counter.
* Many new weapons, line shields and units will be added. Note that new units which will increase or decrease TECHNIC range affect only TECHNICs which fire in a straight line, i.e. Foie and Barta.

System changes
Prices will now be color-coded in shops.
Blue: 100,000 - 999,999
Green: 1,000,000 - 9,999,999
Yellow: 10,000,000 and above

* A universe transport cube has been added to the GUARDIANS HQ at the GUARDIANS Colony. Also, a PP charger, transport cube and NPC vendor have been added to each planet's GUARDIANS Branch
* Enemy HP has been adjusted in "Forest of Illusion."
* Party recruitment missions ("Dagora Standby Area," Holtes Standby Area," "Ohtoku Standby Area") have changed the way fastest clear times are presented. (No specific details are given on the change, however.) Also, a way to leave the standby area without ending the mission has been added.
* Grinder synthesis has been changed so that the maximum number of Grinders (of the same grade) you can produce reflects the maximum number you can put hold in both your personal inventory and your partner machine's storage.
* The mission "Military Subway" has been adjusted to correct a bug that caused certain containers to never drop anything.

Universe consolidation
The number of universes will be reduced from 42 to 26.

EDIT: Added a few clarifications. Thanks for the help, Zael and Ffuzzy!

EDIT#2: SonicTeam did a stealth update, extending the duration of the spring lobby. Also, I've listed some new details including a few known bugs that were posted on the official site.

Espio, you forgot about this part, following the enemy adjustments to that list of missions.
" Play a particular way by fighting monsters and semipermanently situation continue to lose out to the following adjustments to the mission."

What I'm guessing that means is that they're preventing you from playing in a particular way to fight enemies semi-permanently on those missions, which basically means you can't AFK bullets. If you look at those missions listed, they do have something in common: enemies that can resta.

Hmm...that's interesting. Thanks for the info.

But I wonder how the gunners will react to this...

Zael
Apr 8, 2008, 06:55 AM
I don't care really. I already got almost all my bullets to 40.

And plus, we have a lot of times' notice about that patch, so if they're gunna AFK level, they're just gunna get it out of the way now or soon.

Golto
Apr 8, 2008, 06:57 AM
Hmm I guess this means they will finally release the head units /smart and /spread in that random Neudiaz mission.

Neith
Apr 8, 2008, 07:00 AM
I wonder if this will remove all the safe-spots from Plains Overlord then- since that's part of the reason you can AFK level in that mission anyway.

Other than that, all I can think of is altering the maps so you can't AFK level, or altering the AI so it isn't exploitable (for example, make Go Vahra leaders more aggressive, rather than standing there spamming Resta).

Fires of Illusion sounds cool, I'm guessing it's a PSO Cave version of FoI. Unfortunately, this means we'll have to be subjected to the Caves music again? D:

Awesome, so they are using the MUUT DITTS POUMN layout for the illusion missions.
In PSO, the "MUUT" pillar was found in Forest, so in PSU the Forest is on Moatoob (MUUT)
DITTS = Neudaiz = Caves
POUMN = Parum = Mines
Ruins = Colony

Nah, "Sakura Warpath" is a normal free mission. The story mission event thing is supposed to come out after a few more chapters have been released. So, that'll probably be around June or so for Japan.

It's not that bad. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif The non-battle music ("The kink in the wind in the way PART1") used to put me to sleep, but I've really come to like the battle version ("The kink in the wind in the way PART2") which is what we'll be hearing.

Also, on the name of this mission, literally it should be "Fire Hole of Illusion," but uh... that doesn't exactly have a good ring to it. <_<; (That's the reason why I opted for "Fires of Illusion," though when it's localized, I'm expecting "Caves of Illusion.") I guess I could've gone with "Inferno of Illusion?" Bleh, guess it doesn't really matter. One thing I'm hoping with the next two PSO field missions, though is that they drop the "of Illusion" moniker. With a second mission sharing the name, I'm already hoping for a more creative change.

Maybe a Ruins of Illusion on Colony/Rykros or something >_>

The color coding change should help with the people who accidentally put up items for the wrong price. With a different color, there should be no reason for people to say "I meant to put that up for 1mil instead of 100k.

* Many new weapons, line shields and units will be added. Note that new units which will increase or decrease TECHNIC range affect only TECHNICs which fire in a straight line, i.e. Foie and Barta.

eh, I've never had a problem with how far barta reaches. I guess if you want it to hit creatures you can't even see on the map.

me - casts barta from way over yonder. "Hey did I hit it?"
Fortefigher - "yeah, you hit it."

New S2s
* Sakura Blast
* White Beast
* Hill of Spores
* Dancing Birds
* Sacred Stream

Hill of Spores S2 and White Beast S2 might be good places to farm Suffad. For Hill of Spores and Dancing Birds, I have to wonder how many people will get hit by the rafoie from the Kudetob and die because they forgot about how hard it hits. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Dancing Birds Rappy Igg hunting will resume during Boost road.

Sacred Stream on the Xbox 360 will be full of fail. Exploding robot slowdown. On top of techer spell slowdown. On top of poor map re-skinning slowdown = PITA mission. Plus the fact that you are forced to do the mission... At least there will be plenty of Ortapolymer and maybe some Ortaceran to go around.

Question, about the way Universes are displayed for JP.

On the source page, it shows a list of the Universes available now, and how those'll collapse down from 42 into 26. I'm noticing that it isn't merely the same name all the way down the list, like ours are. (ie: 01 Universe, 02 Universe....) I'm not sure what they all say, but the ones at the end of the list have "GBR" in the name.

Do the JP servers have actual labels for each Universe, specifying a particular activity or something? If so, what do they all say?

That's pretty much it. Each set of universes is a "recommended" set for players to flock to if they intend to do only certain types of missions. These sets include Colony, Parum, Neudaiz, Moatoob and GBR. Oh, and at the beginning of the list is the beginners' universe and then general universes.

Since no one has mentioned it, it looks like they're changing the way the rare missions are found now. While I can't make out too much from the google translation, it says something about the odds of finding it being greater with a larger party (though this may refer to the "trick" of splitting up after each run). Additionally, it looks like it says that the run must be complete in more than 5 minutes but less than 30 for the rare missions to have a chance to appear, and this applies to FoI as well.

Guess that means no more 3-minute VoC spam. :<

I was a little off, I guess. Extra time (up to 30 minutes) increases chances of finding it.

no more afk? thats fine w/ me, ill just do it normally.

and its nice we dont have to split up to check the counter after every mission. also increasing the chance of the rare mission w/ more members is cool. but im kinda worried this gbr will be a waste of time like all the previous ones. wouldnt be surprised if solo white beast S is still the best way to go -_-

the 5 min rule is stupid. a big party of masters doing these horribly easy missions would have to be careful they dont clear too fast.

VERY nice update. I just knew there'd be another Sugaraki mission, and I'm pleased to see a new "illusion" mission too. Wonder what the drops are...

What bug?

Sacred Stream, Grove of Fanatics, Desert Goliath, Train Rescue and Rogues Shortcut have an issue where these missions caused permanent slowdown randomly due to a memory leak related to exploding robots. The slowdown stays for all missions done afterwards until the xbox is restarted.

For some reason robots exploding on some other missions like Endrum Remnants and AMF Military Base don't cause the same slowdown. Also there are some maps in certain missions that don't cause as much slowdown as others. For example the maps in Grove of Fanatics that have less Bysha type-Otsu32 (blue robots) tend to cause less slowdown. Maps with more Bysha type-Otsu32 cause more slowdown.

There is one particular map that always causes slowdown for me even if I abandon the mission after finding out which map it is. (Map type A-2 if going by the spawn chart on PSUPedia. 100% slowdown for me unless I reset)

Some people just do the map slowdown or no and reset when they get too slow. Most people just avoid any mission where there is possibility of slowdown.

While people will still do GoF and DG because of the boss box drops, that does not apply to Sacred Stream.

Also, regarding drops, it's probably safe to assume that we will see Nava Luddas (B'duki Boa), Vanda Orgas (Ank Dedda), Delp Slamis (Ryusaikanoh), and Grass Assassins (Sweet Death). Rare enemies would probably be Jaggos, and possibly something else like Orgdus or Lutus Jigger, but why don't we just wait a couple days and find out for certain?

Oooo, ooooo! I have some more:

Perhaps toads will grow small tires on their backs and roll down the road with their bellies in the air.

Perhaps telephones will come to life and be REALLY annoying to talk to at parties.

Perhaps the word "vestibule" will be used as slang for "talented" (ex. Man, that Chris Paul sure is vestibule!).

Yeah, they are a bit strange. But I'm really curious what the increase in probability will be for spending longer on a mission than if you cut through it in just over five minutes. Hopefully it'll be a big enough increase to warrant spending more time in a single mission. I'm also hoping that the new S2s will give enough challenge to make players naturally spend more time in a single mission.

The sensible thing to do would be increase so that your odds are exactly equal for any span of time...
5 minutes = 5 in 1000000 chance
6 minutes = 6 in 1000000
...
30 minutes = 30 in 1000000

But who knows if they'd really do it that way. Probably best to test carefully.
Speaking of testing: someone needs to check if it's the same roll of the dice to determine if Forest and Cave appear; like do you have separate chances of seeing rare missions if you check desks on both Neu and Mot?

Espio,

Just doing a bit of forward thinking here, but maybe you should call the new mission "Caves of Illusion". If "Fires of Illusion" catches on, people will start abbreviating it as "FoI", and thus the confusion. I believe the confusion that will ensue will be tantamount to the Fighgunner (FG) and Fortegunner (FG) abbreviations.

Of course, there is no need to change it, but thought you might want to know.

Thank you for your time.

Excellent point. That crossed my mind after I listed it as "Fires of Illusion." I'm trying to avoid "Caves of Illusion" since I hope that these Rykros nanotransformer-effect missions don't all fall under the "PSO area name here] of Illusion" moniker. (Though I anticipate they will.) A few alternatives I came up with include a direct translation, "Fire Hole of Illusion," a similar name, "Inferno of Illusion," and a new personal favorite, "Volcanic Crevasse of Illusion."

Really though, I doubt it'll be much of a problem since I anticipate most people will call it "Caves of Illusion" as they know it takes place in the caves from PSO. And even if "Fires" caught on as the name, once we get the localized name for the mission, most people likely will begin to associate it with that rather quickly. This hypothesis evidenced by how quickly the localized name "The Egg Thieves" was picked up when before everyone knew the mission by the direct translation I gave of "Her Hero Is A Thief." (Even though it should have been "Her Hero Is An Egg Thief," but that's another story entirely about the multiple meanings of the Japanese word for egg, etc., etc., and me trying to keep names somewhat short and to the point.)

Now THIS is a huge update.

I'm disappointed in the GBR mission list though. People already spam White Beast, so why is it included >_> (probably because it's one of the new S2 missions).

Yay for AOI S2 missions! I'm curious about what items will drop.. Maybe 13*s?

We're NOT 6 months away from this. Closer to 3-4 (3 if they hurry a bit, 4 otherwise).

Pretty sure that is Red/Wall. If I've confused the body unit picture with the arm unit one, I suppose it could be Red/Knight. But it's definitely one or the other. Maybe.

Xaeris
Apr 10, 2008, 09:59 AM
It's definitely an Arm unit judging from the icon, and from it does, it looks like it's a /Knight. If it were a Wall, the DFP and EVP numbers in the unit's stat box would have to match the ones in the armor's stat box.

This kind of unit is almost akin to the reshaping of your stats people did with Mags, in the past. Are units going to be the future of (we make our stats what we want to be) in this game? Perhaps, with a little less control, of course.

Yeah, last part definately reads Night or Knight. Insane boosts really, nice unit. I can see S-Rank armour becoming very popular http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Seems like some really nice drops in these new missions (Nasuyoteri, made Rikauteri, Okarod?, Kazarod, Tamagiri-zashi, Shiraha-zashi (finally!), Cati / Rainbow, Lumira-senba, Asura-senba..) The list goes on and on http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif

Well, he does drop [B] Granahodrac, but that may be the Saguraki 150+ area drop. Unless it's been seen dropping from them in White Beast too. Being Kubara just makes it seem more likely as an area drop.

O:

On a not-so-related note, I'd like to point out that the Japanese wiki lists Grass Assassins in this mission as dropping [B] Double Agito, which is what they drop at LV150+ according to what was gathered during Dengeki. However, these guys are only LV135 in Fires of Illusion, meaning they should drop [B] Sweet Death. So, we've either got another dual drop to look forward to in our future or a drop chart alteration will be made to bring [B] Double Agito down to a LV125-149 drop. Or Grass Assassins make a 25 level jump from the normal enemy level, but I'm doubting that as the JP wiki states they only go up ten levels from the listed level.

For those interested in the afk changes, I went to Scarred Planet and the spawns were still the same. So no need to redo spawn charts or anything. All that happens now is the leader vahra never does his "call" to gather them together and resta. He just runs blindly all the time with the rest of them.

Is it possible that they made the Grass Assassins drop the Double Agito board espeically just for Caves even though they're not the required level?

Either way if the Double Agito is in fact a duel drop with the sweet death it means it should drop more than the Sweet Death if it is considered to be rarer on S.

So does that mean he uses Resta more, about the same amount, or less? It sounds like he'd at least use it faster if not more, and that there'd be less of a chance of knocking him out of it (if you hit him when he does his "call", he won't do the Resta bit).

LeMan_Bayon

No, he doesn't even do it at all. I sat there for awhile and he just continued to run. Then I did some damage to them and he still would not resta.

Edit: Well the only thing I didn't try was getting them near death to see if he would heal, but I doubt he would have.

^ SonicTeam did a stealth update to their maintenance notes, extending the end date of the spring lobby to May 08. They also did some other random changes.

* The mission "Military Subway" has been adjusted to correct a bug that caused certain containers to never drop anything.

http://phantasystaruniverse.jp/news/wis/?mode=view&id=653
^ One more thing. There's a problem with the new GBR. Earned points aren't showing up properly. The cause is being researched, and it is warned that a possible point reset may have to be done to fix the issue. They'll post more news on that once it becomes available.

Ah, found what you were talking about. The comment translates as:

"I can confirm finding a Yoakisobra from the last boxes (boss boxes) of Sakura Warpath on A."

"A shower of blossoms" is part of a direct translation of what I called "Sakura Warpath." If I were to give a literal translation of the mission's name, it'd be something like "Battle of Pursuit Through the Falling Cherry Blossoms."

90% success rate, 20 el photon, 2 Terseline, 3 Paural, 3 kubara wood?

So if the kubara version is 90% what's the success rate on the non-kubara version going to be like? That could be what the "hmm..." was about.

Heh to kill AFK leveling they basically nerf the enemies (again...), I hated those humoniod enemies anyways when solo'ing as FT though, only thing that slowed me down during GoF hunting.

But I figured they would do something like make the Leader Vahra shot foie, throw his claw at you, or something to stop AFK leveling instead of mindlessly just Resta'ing. The Leader Go Vahra basically has no purpose now when he spawns unless attacks you without you having to flinch him first like the C-A versions.

For a long time I've stuffed my pockets and PM full of low-grade grinders while making new ones, if you produce a Grinder+1 and there's nowhere for the PM to put it, it cancels the synthesis... the board's a waste (it won't make better than +5 after the first attempt) but you saved the grinder bases. It costs a LOT less to produce high quality grinders that way.

I suspect this change either invalidates the trick or makes it more convenient. It could go either way and I wouldn't care. It's stupid that you can make good grinders more efficiently with cheesy inventory tricks... but it's not like +10's are such a win button for grinding that they deserve to be as hard to produce as they are.

Does the Milla replace the Varista? :/
Anway, knowing SEGA, the twin version just will drop somewhere. *shrugs*

When you say that the method for obtaining a rare map has changed....
does it mean just for Fires of Illusion, because its new?

or is this affecting Forest of Illusion too?

It will affect "Forest of Illusion," too. But as of this moment, only on the Japanese PC/PS2 version. The English version of the game still uses the old method, and likely will until we get "Fires of Illusion."

Why would a non-FF gun replace a gun usuable by an FF?

what do u mean by replace Varista?
Varista is a junk, it drop soo easy on every rank.
Mila is a lot better and very rare/expensive.

and the power of Mila beat all other handgun out of range. (has 100 atp more than 12*)

but the true is.....hand gun still a weakest gun.

Nono, I wondered if the Milla replaced the Varista drop. But it seems to drop from Jigo Boomas. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

lol, Milla. I read it as 'Mira' for ages, until it dawned on me http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

It'll be awesome if you need to perform a synth with Guld and Milla as ingredients to make Guld Milla, but I can't see it happening. I'm guessing we'll see both Guld Milla and Sange & Yasha as seperate items.

I find it odd that Milla is Female-only (like PSO), but Neiclaw is usable by anyone though >_>
