Is a tangent of a tangent really a tangent?

I had 2 apples then I ate one, now I have 1. And Bobby over there is sitting on his apples; I really hope he doesn't eat them.

Tangent: A description of a line that touches a circle or other curve at one point only. Example- Line segment BC is tangent to circle A.

"The Tangent is a musical project that involves seven of the most dedicated progressive musicians today. The band consists of Roine STOLT, Jonas REINGOLD & Zoltan CZSORZ (all from The FLOWER KINGS), Sam BAINE & Andy ALLISON (from PARALLEL Or 90 DEGREES), Guy MANNING (MANNING), and ex VDGG sax/flute player David JACKSON. A line-up that historically spans the whole of the progressive music era". Rubber baby buggy bumpers.

Technically, a tangent line can touch a curve more than once... For instance, a sine wave.

I don't mind math, out of core classes it's actually my favorite. Just don't like talking about it everyday. Yer comment remind me of an xkcd comic though.

That's a lie, consdiering that in physical form numbers are imperfect. 2+2 could equal 4.2 or 3.9 in the real world.

* is usually denoted to mean the times symbol when typing out math problems, so you don get times (x) and the letter x mixed up, I thought it was some clever joke on your math teachers part, guess not http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_disapprove.gif

Hmm... you're probably right.
My maths teacher makes me do curly X's anyway, as to not get muddled up with the Times symbol.

we use centered dots, but if someone sucks at vertical alignments, they look like decimals, which kind of defeats the purpose of not using an x

Randomness

I use dots pretty much all the time, but mine are larger, more a tiny filled in circle, as oppose to decimals, which are quick taps of the pencil.

In calculus, I have so many Xs in most problems that it wouldn't work to use the normal times sign. I haven't used the division sign in ages, I always write it as a fraction.

Out_Kast
Apr 23, 2008, 04:10 PM
The division sign is ugly anyway.
A forward slash will suffice.

I use that when showing that I'm deviding a fraction, otherwise just use fractions

Out_Kast
Apr 23, 2008, 04:14 PM
Hmm... I guess something like (12 over 23) over (4 over 7) would create an eyesore on the page.
I haven't done fraction work in a while.

In other news, I did not know multiplication symbols were so popular. Last few years of math I took, we just dispensed with them altogether (parentheses if absolutely necessary).
