View Full Version : Playing with randoms

It has become simply intolerable. I recently leveled my CAST to 82 with some friends of mine, but seeing as not many people are on early in the morning, I was forced to either solo or join a random party. Well...here's how it went for about two hours:

Situation 1) Booted immediately. I'm sorry but the difference between level 80 and level 100 is not that much of a big deal. I can dish out more than enough damage to keep up with the rest of the party, I'm not some horrible gimp because there's not three digits beside my name. Moreover, if you are going to boot people under 100, why not just make your party description read "level 100+ only"? The mentality is still completely stupid, but at least I won't waste my time joining your party. If you just plain don't want people to join/are waiting for a friend, why not put a password?

Situation 2) People just do not know how to play. I joined one party that was 20 minutes in to the mission...at the secret room of Forest. At first I thought maybe they had started the mission and just went AFK or something, but no. There was a Protranser spamming level <11 Bogga Danga, and an Acrotecher spamming Ramegid somehow doing ~130 damage. That's cool if you want to level your PAs, but there's a time and a place...it's not an S run of MAG though...and if you want to do that, please by all means warn us beforehand. Somewhat related, people who put the item distribution in Set in Order, then end up picking stupid shit like Booma Claws up anyways. Look, I don't care if you want them, you're making me or some other party member pass up my/their chance at a good rare/badge for the most common item in the event. Stop it.

Situation 3) Other failures. I was booted midway through the mission with no warning. The leader did not say they had a friend coming, I was doing more damage than the other party members, and I had not died. I guess I was booted in favor of a higher level joining or something, I dunno. The point is, why would you boot someone who's been in the mission for four blocks randomly? Another favorite of random party leaders is just spontaneously leaving. We had a guy leave in the middle of the Carriguine room, making us all fail the mission and miss out on the last room of the event. I can forgive lag outs, but this guy blatantly said "I have to go guys" and left. Maybe he was doing it for laughs, I dunno, but if you know you have something to do, why would you start another party?

I did not complete one full mission after two hours of searching for parties, nor did I level up once. It didn't happen today, but last night every time I would find a party, everyone leaves after one run. Why? Am I just getting really unlucky and joining on the 30th run of the night as everyone's ready to leave or what?

Fuck randoms, it's just not worth it anymore.

A couple days into the event, I joined two people. They greeted me, and then one of them gave me that fucking "-_-" anime shit and kicked me without explanation.

Good times.

I've been running into a lot of noobs lately. I don't mind playing with lower levels at all, but some of these guys are TOTALLY new to the game around level 80. This is evident when they don't carry mates and scapes, have all of their PAs below lvl 11, and still carry B rank weapons and don't know how to use JA. XD

Ah, yes, one of the reasons I don't particularly like doing event runs without friends. Not only is it idiot-central, but, well... for example. Shortly after the winter event came out, I was talking to one guy I met. He was level 120, and he... didn't know what a frag was. <<; He'd only been playing since the event and... yeah.
Wasn't particularly bright, either.

Sorry about all that, also. D:

I havenīt met kick-idiots yet. So far the community has been very nice to me for joining randomz.

I joined 2 lv 120 people thinking they should know by now how to do the mission or at least defeat foes easy way.
But no, one were using bows and a other a occacional grenade launcher on Vil de Vear (monkey-bear w/e) making it spin.
So i came saying.. "Dude, grenade makes those enemies spin XD" And were like.."aha yeah thx for tips. XD"

Pretty funny, cause they were pretty noobish all mission so it were a pretty amusing run.

Im a lvl 75 female human PT and what I hate is that at times my party isnt taking advantage of my trap usage and/or then they dont wanna wait for me to set up traps so our runs
can run smoother. I play on PS2 and lag whenever I switch weapons/items so I gotta
think way ahead. (dont even get me started w/ my FT on S runs)
I find it funny as hell when at ruins we go get Kireek or do that room 1st, but someone always is a lone ranger and goes to "kill" in that Carriguine room and we just see his/her
HP go red in like a second. Not once, not twice, but three times. im like"get over here, we do that room toghter" (lol) anyways um , yea...kinda went off there. Sorry about that, but people
in random parties just know no teamwork. (maybe a few though, been in a "few" good ones)

I hear ya and I've been kinda avoiding playing with strangers as well. I wouldn't let it get to you, I run alone during event though people join mid-mission. Kinda funny how Sega added this I would exploit it however (not to boot people but to see if you find any new friends) while your current ones are distracted with MAG.

Well, with situation 2, when it's set to order, items automatically get assigned to someone as soon as they drop. Picking them up simply guarantees you an item for that "round". They're not trying to just heap garbage items onto you. Order can't be manipulated like that.

I hear you man. I fail to understand how people can be simply, so incompetent and bad at this game. It just boggles my mind.

Items that are dropped aren't assigned specifically. If that were the case, it could be manipulated even worse than it already can. The order is set as soon as the cycle of X players ends/begins. If it were assigned as soon as it dropped, it would be possible for players to get two or even more items in the exact same cycle.

This has happened to me. Someone picks an Booma Claw on the way to Caves, and it goes to me. Since a new cycle in order didn't start, I had a 0% chance of receiving the next rare, the [B]Ryusaikanoh that dropped.

I really wish people would set runs to rares in order and normal to give finder. i have not seen that once except for the party i started. order distributes the badges pretty evenly as four generally drop at a time on higher levels. it's not pefect, but does a much better job than random, or (god forbid) give finder. and normals; i'd rather not have my inventory filled up with a bunch of crap people like to pick up. i really have no use for [b]deljabanners.

as for rare drops, they can drop at anytime so in order is practically set on random except for the badges. eveyone gets dished out one at a time. booma claws i understand as people see red and pick it up by habit.

for random parties, i'm actually really picky. i'll join a couple leave after 5 minutes and keep bouncing around different parties from the counter until i find one that works well. if it takes 20 minutes to get to caves 2; leave, party skips badges for speed runs; leave, leader sets rares on in order; leave. other than that i pretty much sick around in a party. i'm a techer so i provide buffs, resta and i do decent damage even though i level techs most of the time; i only use the right ones for the right situation.

if i meet cool people i generally get their card. and set them as priority 4 or soemthing so i can mail around looking for a party if i need it.

Yeah, it can be frustrating to play with randoms, but there are times where I have no choice. If it does get bad, I usually leave after that run. Then I try the next one and hope for a decent group, which exists. I've met most of my friends in universe 02, so I figure that more awesome people are hiding somewhere.

I must've been having some extraordinary luck when I decide to go random. I've never been treated badly in any way in a random party and have made a lot of acquaintances in such parties.

It gets a little quiet at times, yes. But quiet is good at times.

-.-

Edit: misspelled "luck" with "look". Really.

I've never had a problem getting booted either (knocks on wood). I can't even remember the last time I got kicked.

When playing with random parties, I expect the worst and try to cut off whatever I can. If they're annoying to talk to, I simply won't speak. If they suck, I'll find another party or solo faster than they kill. Every now and then, though, I find a party where people kill quickly and the conversation is enjoyable. When that happens, I'm pleasantly surprised.

Funny thing.
Some noobs can learn, others can't. If you don't take time to help them, they won't change and be level 120 saying, "What are frags?", or help them out so they can do better. DreX helped train a new ATer during a run. I was kinda jealous because he was saying "Good job!" and things when she was kinda not, but she eventually got it. I only think he helped her because she was a chick, but anyhow, just helping them out sometimes makes it best for everyone.
It's those "You don't know how to play this game, and I do!" fags that you have to get away from. They need help, yet don't want it so don't give it. Excuse yourself and leave the party so they can waste 30 mins in Forest instead of keeping you and only doing 12 or whatever.
Also, don't become a jerk like them either. It IS possible to learn new things from randoms. Hell, I did speed runs with randoms and didn't even relize it! XD

*facepalm*

Is this another case of one of your undetectable sarcasm, Ms. I get mailed by ark, jose, and seance 24/7? XP

(Ok fine, I guess it's calmed down now).

And Yes, I'll generally help people when they need it, but when I have work to do, or some other plans for the day, I prefer a competent party to get through things quickly. I'm paying the month to enjoy the game the way I want it, after all.

Here's one of my annoying runs. Me, lv 94, a dude lv 130, and 2 new players, lv 80 and 85.

The 130 seemed too either be lagging or just TRYING to not keep up with the party, therefore most rooms were cleared before he got there. It would've been nice if we had, he was a fighter like me, and we could've used him.
Scapes used:0
Scapes found:0
Scapes at end of mission: Probably 10

The 80 and 85 didnt carry mates or scapes. One of them was a useless gunner and the other was.a protranser lv 1. The one used nades on the bil de vears, resulting in me getting killed by it spinning multiple times on EACH bear, while it took forever to kill them because they kept spinning. The PT spammed jabroga for under 1k damage on EVERYTHING, so I had to chase the same enemy around to every corner of the room before he stopped. >_>
scapes used: 0, they didnt bring any
scapes found:4
scapes at end of mission: 3 for one of them, the other had 1

Me, lv 94 fighgunner. I'm doing the most damage, AND protecting the noobs, while every foie/megid/rappy polec sleep attack is aimed at ME. So here I am getting killed by spinning bears thanks to the others, AND getting 3 foies in the face from behind me every 20 seconds or so. Not to mention that every megid that I couldn't dodge DID kill me, and I was using a delette line.
Scapes used:10
Scapes found:1
End scapes:1
Fuck randoms

I had a team of 3 started last night, and a random filled the last spot.

The one thing that was irritating: The game's set to random/random as usual and for a change I got virtually EVERYTHING at the end. Badges, crap boards, the rares scrolling at the end looked like one of those movies where one person did like 90% of the characters and most of the production jobs as well. This dude was PISSED OFF.

Oh, I'm sorry, supposing you were equipped and playing your absolute best you'd count for what... like HALF the damage of one of your teammates thanks to the stats/PA differences? You're entitled to what now?

Anyway I was a good sport about it and helpfully suggested that loot rewards might be tied to how much someone uses weapons of the opposite element to their target, since he had gone the whole mission using same-element weapons whenever possible. Funny how people don't stick around for another run after you've pointed out something like that.

The best part of the story is that this friendly techer named "strawberry pancake" filled the spot after and was awesome for putting up with the most obnoxious Pun War ever held in a PSU event mission.

I'm suerprised that she stuck around with us for that long. I was starting to hate myself after a while (partially since I was wracking my brain and halfway tempted to grab a dictionary for more words, and I was starting to find myself beyond obnoxious with the ones that came up).

Anyway, Randoms are yet another gambling aspect of PSU, just a part of the 90% of the game that relies on luck. From finding items, receiving items, synthing items, synthing items with a good %, grinding weapons, finding the right parties, and of course actually gambling in the casino. Got your good days and you got those horrible losing streaks that just make you want to a) kill something or b) kill everything.

Essentially everyone I've met so far who I party with on a regular basis was a result of random occurrences. Since we all have our own schedules to keep, I will still often times find random groups. So basically, I don't have a problem with randoms in general. There are those few individuals who, for whatever reason, make things just a little more difficult than usual.

I have fun with randoms. I guess I just get lucky most of the time. That and I'm usually the only person carrying moons/ that can use Giresta, so they see some benefit to having me around. That and just trhough typing I can hold a decent conversation, moreso than half the people with mics.

I feel randoms is worth doing. I have had a blast so far and no bitching about items or anything.
Random rare setting is random, might get lucky or might not.
I donīt play any other setting cause i feel they can be manipulated.

Usually, if a person really says that he would like to obtain mentioned item.
I usually give it to the person in question if i donīt need it myself if it drops for me.
It just the kind of person i am.

PS: Bitching part is what i connect to, " I must have that item or i leave" or other selfish thing.
