Item: Gold vs Normal Boxes

I just read the quest guide section and it lists the number of gold boxes and the number of normal boxes. Just wanted to know what exactly gold boxes do. I've broken them before and haven't really noticed anything special coming out. Maybe one of you know?

Most gold (brown, metal with blue top) boxes contain set items. That is, you'll usually find the same items in them with little, if any, variations.

In general, the non-gold boxes are the ones you want to go after.

Yep, unless your character needs a telepipe or something to feed a MAG (so long as what comes out is a little green box)...Usually the other stuff is there to be liquidized into meseta - if you want to bother picking it up anyway. But if your rare-hunting, like TeamPhalanx says it's not worth going after.
