View Full Version : Why can't I sleep when I need it most?

On vacation, I go to bed at midnight, wake up at 8:00 or 9:00 and I'm OK.
Now that I have a job, I have to wake up at 7:00. I go to bed at 11:00 PM... but can't fall asleep until well past 2:00 in the morning.
Once I arrive at work, no amount of coffee is enough to make me stay awake.
Meanwhile, the guy who played his fresh new copy of GTA 4 until 4:00 AM comes in and happens to be the most energetic guy in the bunch even though he barely had 3 hours of sleep on his night.
What the hell is wrong with me? http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_frown.gif

Try having a good workout at some point in the day. That should help ensure you fall asleep faster.

And probably you're still adjusting to the schedule change. Best thing is to not fret about it, more fret=more stress=less sleep...

9:00 =/= 7:00
Go to bed earlier. Simple. Wind down awhile before you go to bed, read a book, chill out and watch TV for a bit.

It helps to be tired when you go to bed. Like SabZero said, you're probably still adjusting to the time change. Also, definitely try not to think about the fact that you need to sleep. Thinking that you need to sleep soon will keep you awake, I guarantee it. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_lol.gif
About the guy who plays GTA 4, different people need different amounts of sleep. I need 6-7 hours of sleep per night but some people I know only need 4-5. I don't know what their secret is, maybe they just have lots of sugar and caffeine in their diets. http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_confused.gif

When I sleep it has to be either 4-7 hours or 10-12. Funny thing is on school night I get about 8-9 >_<
At all the other amounts of sleep I feel wide awake but when it's 8-9 hours I cant wake up at all.

I don't feel good without a good 12 hours of sleep behind me. That said, I usually get 3-5 so I rarely feel AWAKE!!! Sucks so much, especially when you can't shut off your brain!

If only we could develop that syndrome that renders you unable to sleep for the rest of your life (it doesn't hurt people in any way BTW), 'cause I would be soooooo happy if that were to happen to me, being that I think I am losing sleep due to me graduating in 2 weeks.
May 20th is coming faster than I can comprehend...

I try to tire myself out if I need to sleep early. Try some light exercise an hour or two before bed?

It might also help to avoid doing anything highly mentally stimulating before trying to go to sleep. Try to read a book, take a nice long shower, or something like that, as opposed to video games or movies. This is the case for me, at least.
