View Full Version : 5 letters per post? :/

Is that really THAT big a deal? It makes it kinda hard to post short messages.
Not to mention I(might just be me, I dunno) seem to get a glitch that says I didn't put enough text in, when I clearly put at least 5 lines of text.

I think it'd have to do with something along the lines of this being posts on a forum rather than a chat room. Forums are more supposed to be posting complete thoughts, not just saying "True." "QFT" or "lol". Adjust and find ways to elaborate on what you're trying to say.
Outside of FKL, if you're only able to think out a reply consisting of five letters or less, it's probably not worth saying enough to be considered a decent contribution to a thread.
Only FKL 'should' be 'having a problem' with it, but you may just have to live with it and make sentences.

You can always post a smiley to bypass the 5 character post for "QFT", "FTW" or "lol" posts.

Wut!! no wai, tis lameness :
If you haven't noticed the limit by now, I don't think it'll be a problem for you.
We're just trying to encourage people to enter post text beyond the ordinary cliched abbreviations some people like to enter.

That's 10 characters, 2x more than you needed! ;)

That and the auto-censoring of posts in all caps are two of the most obnoxious things about this new software. (And part of why vbulletin annoys the hell out of me, because every forum with it feels the need to turn into a nanny forum with no faith at all in its userbase.)

I turned off the caps-filtering earlier today.
This is just all part of the tweaking process that we figure will take a couple more weeks. vBulletin has thousands of configuration options and it is hard to predict the side-effects some of them will have. Often time, the default values just aren't suitable for this forum. I make adjustments to the settings each day based on what I observe.

Most of these features were default options with the new software. We did not purposely enable them to torment you guys... although the thought has crossed our minds ;)

I don't have any problem with the 5 letter minimum. Another forum I'm on has a 10 letter minimum and no one there complains about it. I think people were just spoiled here for too long making posts like ";o".
