Nice! I have a PSP but I don't know how the JP browser thing works. I'd be awesome if I could access it and give it a whirl!
Last time I checked, the PSP is NOT region locked...

This game is not announced for the West, and judging from how abymisal PSU is doing over here, it never will be.

Don't be so sure. Sega and ST might use this as a tool to boost sales and rebuild their fanbase in the West. Plus if it does well on the PSP, it might draw users to the online game. If not, then I'm importing this anyway.

It isn't, so it really doesn't matter whether or not it's released in the US or not.

Hey guys,
An event is currently taking place in France which is called "Japan Expo". It's becoming more and more famous, with oftenly exclusive games and all.
Sega is there this year. They present games like Valkyrie Profile or Samba De Amigo (accessible to people for the 1st time ever!), but not Phantasy Star Portable. You may think it isn't surprising, but there often are japanese games that won't be released outside Japan in Japan Expo (such as Jump Ultimate Stars or RPGs).
So yeah, I asked the manager of the Sega stand (who is also one of the main guys at Sega France's) why they didn't display PSP. He answered that the game isn't famous at all in Europe (no news here), not to speak of a critical failure, and they didn't bother putting it since nobody would care. He said that the game was VERY unlikely to come out of Japan even if it were successful there. They'd need a real great success, the kind Monster Hunter has, to export it.
I think this is quite an explicit answer everyone. Go and order the japanese version on PSP! I'll have to look for another website than Play-Asia, they don't send the game to France >.>.

Try importing from YesAsia.com, it's where I ordered mine from because Play-Asia doesn't ship PSP (the console) stuff to Europe ever since the Lik-Sang debacle for doing that (Sony destroyed them for that reason).
If what you said is indeed true, that's a major shame.
Hope they reconsider and that PSP (the game) is a massive success to make them think twice.

Bah! I refuse to be pessimistic! Here's a dose of cheerful upbeatness for ya'll
Sega of France...come on, they can't honestly have inside knowledge of the company to that extent. If PSP is such an obscure game as they say, then their minds would surely be on other things any way.
Even if it isn't released in the US, do you honestly think considering how fanatical PS people are that there won't be an English patch in like.... a week? That's an exaggeration, but I'm sure someone would make one.
Even if there is no patch... umm...isn't there a lot of English in the game any way? Eh? Ehhhh?
Okay the last one might be pushing it...

I don't mind playing the game in japanese. Ok, I don't actually speak japanese, but I have very good bases thanks to a lot of years of intense playing of imported games and reading of japanese websites (especially those concerning PSU). Learn katakanas, it is really helpful when getting to games! PSU JP, as a lot of japanese games, is full of English words written with katakanas.

I'm pretty sure there'll be a US release; I'll keep believing this, until I see officially from SEGA, in an announcement or something, that there is no, and never will be, a PSP US release. ;p
(Plus, I totally agree with the whole english patch in a week, XD)

Give me my Bringer's Rifle and Caduceus NAO!!! ;_;
Yes, we need those! :D
Though if they bring back Bringer's, does that mean they'll bring back Chaos Bringer?

So, I've been wanting to learn Japanese for a while, and I recently have gained the ability to do so. Out of curiosity, what script will this game be written in? I'm wondering if it'd be worth an import just for practice...

You WILL see an english version of the game regardless if soa launches it here or not. There are too many fans of PS and too many people that love PSP homebrew. An english version is inevitable.
Only thing I'd pay $40 bucks for a legit version would be to snag my characters off the server, but I could just as easily recreate them and save my monies.
So while I'd buy a legit version, I really don't see it happening. I'll just wait til a loyal fan haxorz it.

I guess its safe to say that you use one character in both story and multi mode?
How do you guys feel about the fact that its essentially the first PSU that's strangely infused with some of the tail end elements of AOI?
Also... can you select that really cute hippo/moose PM at start?!?!

There isn't. I might just have to wait for the offical demo release date. I can't seem to download it now. :/

When i heard about that from a friend, i ended up checking PSUpedia, which doesnt have as much info on certain things as i would like ^^;...heh i was pretty happy to hear about all the stuff that would be in PSP.
lol and so one of the few reasons why i wanna get a PSP is, well PSP lol
a few things i like about the game: MULTIPLAYER!!!! i honestly wished the threw that in PSU AoI but nah... hopefully theyll add a multiplayer feature in the next PS2 installment. I trust ST will do that since the end was kind of...well you know. the fact that there was no offline multi play made me sad ; ; though at the same time i cant help but wonder how they would do that. IF i was them for EP 3 what they should do is make you able to select characters from another memory card instead of being limited to the characters on the first memory card.
oh and speaking of data transfer, if anything i hope that the stuff you find in PSP you can transfer back to your PS2 file. that would be cool, but right now all we can do is hope for the best.
from the vid, the game play looks the same, but it looks like theyre brining back voice acting, which for the first game wasnt too bad imo, but then again ive heard some not so good VAing ^^;
well thats about all thats on my mind on that matter, oh and also the twin distortion weapon sounds like the pan arms blades, which i liked using a lot in PSO lol. but like i said i can only hope for the best.

The developers confirmed in a recent interview that the transfer is one-way. Items discovered in PSP cannot be transferred back to your character in AOTI.

PM 470 but not 480? I'd like a male PM, but I'd much rather have the Butler over a sexuality ambigious little boy following me around.

It does not matter anyway, because on the demo, you cannot use your bot.
You cannot even go to your room... -_-

You obviously haven't played that much of the game, when most of us have for the past 2 days. You're going to confuse newbies.
You can party with your PM.

You get the PM card by finishing the story mission. Its not worth it though, since you can't do the story mission again after you complete it, and there are plenty of things to hunt there.

I'm really surprised at how many people seem confused about this game. With a few exceptions we have the same menus, planets and all, how can you be lost?

Hi all! i have something to say: i never played PSU and I beat the demo (in history) twice! I was surprised for the hability and skill sistem (itīs great!!) and i have both charīs... Yes, I have both! How? try to find the folder with the save data, COPY the folder information (the folder too, recomend), and save in another place, put the name of character to not mistake. Then, start a new game over the old file. If you want to play with the old player (of course, saving the new one!:-P ), just copy and replace files. I tested it... And works!

Of course it works. But once you'll get the real game, you'll have to choose between these two character, that sucks :/.

yeah I have like 5 different charaters saved on my PC lol.
