He was hiding for over thirty years behind a pearl inlay painting to tell you that. Apparently in Japan they use yesterday's newspapers for backing in paintings. Unfortunately that one was destroyed when I fell on it. It had a beautifully done Japanese woman in kimono as the subject of that particular painting. Forutnately, the other painting wasn't there to fall on and still hangs on my wall.

That's kind of creepy if you think about it. I've been stalked by a newspaper clipping since before I was born.


I'm not sure we can agree on the aesthetic merits of these particular pieces, though. :(

The other one was far better than this one that is left. The frames on both were plain hideous though.

I hate going to museums and seeing all these gorgeous paintings in grossly huge, gaudy frames that practically eat the piece whole. I don't care how old or venerable that frame is; it's criminally fugly.

The frame has more pearl inlay, thus it reflected the flash like no other. No pictures as it was thrown out close to a year ago. It's not painted on canvas but on glass. Thus it literally shattered when I tripped and fell on it. Ironically I was repairing a clock and putting it back on the wall when I tripped and fell breaking the painting. I'm still angry with myself over that because it was something I remember looking at while growing up.
