Mechas in real life

Few prototypes are being made to build mecha-like vehicles in real life. Currently almost all of these are too slow or cumbersome to have any real application.

* Landwalker: A functioning prototype Japanese bipedal mecha being developed by Sakakibara Kikai.[2][3]
* T-52 Enryu: Translated name "Rescue Dragon", it is a 3.5 meter-tall hydraulically-operated robotic vehicle developed by Tmsuk. The vehicle has two hands, which copy the controller's movements. Its intended application is to open a path in the debris for the rescue team.

Few companies and organizations are doing some research about it:

* Timberjack (John Deere subsidiary): A known tractor seller company, built a practical hexapod walking tractor to cut trees in forests.[4]
* MPS (Mechanized Propulsion Systems Incorporated) allege they will build an "anime style" mecha within 25 years. They claim to be developing mecha for commercial, industrial, and eventually military use.[5]

Anyone remember that guy who build a giant robot suit in his backyard? It was red and had a flame thrower on one arm. (No, I'm not joking.)

I saw one that could lift 200 lbs. with one arm. For hours on end.

It was in some magazine, I'd forgotten the name. My friend gets it.

the only way they could ever get me in the military is if they had anime style mechs ^.^

Oh God, that would be chaos. A bunch of otakus in the military.

TalHex
Jul 4, 2008, 11:17 PM
i know! we could solve all wars with just a few rounds of smash bros or guilty gear!

Tessu
Jul 4, 2008, 11:19 PM
I was thinking more a bunch of underweight nerdy boys with glasses thicker than their stomach (or the opposite, massively large guys) trying to summon giant balls of "ki"

Sord

they'd probably do collateral damage in attempt to make their fights "epic"

What Sord and Tessu said.

Plus, black market/idiots trying to build their own.

Shit, Sord. If YOU got to engage in giant mech battles for truth, justice, and the African American way. I'm sure you wouldn't be above cracking a few eggs to make an epic omelet

....Oh, yeah. What's up?

Skuda

If I had a mech, I would accidentally get pudding on the control panel, on purpose.

Well...Sure, if you don't want any awesomely epic anime-eske collateral damage inducing battle scenes...

Skuda
Jul 6, 2008, 03:05 AM
Butterscotch pudding is the exact opposite of awesomely epic anime-esque collateral damage inducing battle scenes.

Therefore, anything remotely anything is null and void.

Chuck_Norris

Can you not see my name? I cause collateral damage just be being in the general area.

*laughs* fight for truth and justice etc? Like hell. If I had a mech, the damage I'd be doing would certainly not be collateral, but downright intentional. Now, where's the nearest nursery.

I think I've seen that robot(The actual robot in the picture, not the card) in an anime before. A long time ago. It turned into a dragon I think. Was pretty cool.

Possible.

Personally it looks like a crossover between Lancelot from Code Geass and machines from Macross.

I'd say it looks more like a knight crossed with the movie Megatron.

escaflowen (sp?) maybe?

I don't remember the name at all, so I can't say. All I remember is two kids riding the thing in dragon form, then it dropped them off somewhere and it turned into that robot.
