View Full Version : Do your lyrics well. Or don't do any at all.

Hello Trance tune! I have a quick suggestion for you.

If you don't know what sort of lyrics to put it in, then don't do lyrics.

Case in point: Dallas Superstars - Fine Day:

It's going to be a fine night tonight,
it's going to be a fine day tomorrow.
It's going to be a fine night tonight,
it's going to be a fine day tomorrow..

It's a fine day,
people open windows.
They leave the houses,
just for a short while.

It's a fine day,
people open windows.
They leave the houses,
just for a short while.

It's going to be a fine night tonight,
it's going to be a fine day tomorrow.
It's going to be a fine night tonight,
it's going to be a fine day tomorrow.

It's a fine day,
people open windows.
They leave the houses,
just for a short while.

They walk by the grass.
They look at the sky.
They walk by the grass,
and they look at the grass,
and they look at the sky.

It's going to be a fine night tonight,
it's going to be a fine day tomorrow.
It's going to be a fine night tonight,
it's going to be a fine day tomorrow.

I don't exactly proclaim myself an expert in lyrics. I don't even claim I could do better. But holy shit, when I find out my ears are puking, surely this has to be a sign that this voice is being wasted on inane drivel?

It's trance, what did you expect?

One of my friends listens to this kind of stuff, and I don't mind trance or techno, but some of the stuff is just sickening to hear sometimes...

I generally listen to lyricless music because of this very fact.

"In this Heisei era, where every difficulty can be solved by science,
the evil spirits exist in the hearts of the people buried in the darkness.
As the power of science is unable to do anything, a lone person fights against those mysterious fellows;
a quiet, unfathomable and shady man.
His name is Yabeno Hikomaro. That's right, the people call him 'Onmyoji'."

Evil spirits, disperse! Evil spirits, disperse!
When you are bothered by apparitions and mysterious things...

Douman! Seiman! Douman! Seiman!
Immediately summon the Onmyoji. Let's go!

"In death, they still hold attachment towards this world.
They have been left behind and reduced to being evil spirits."

"Cleansing that evil blood
is the way of Yin and Yang."

Bury the evil born to the human world
into the darkness.

Evil spirits, disperse! Evil spirits, disperse!
When you are bothered by demons and suspicious ghosts...

Douman! Seiman! Douman! Seiman!
Get the Onmyoji to rescue you. Let's go!

"Having grudges and hatred while you're alive
will invite demons and awaken evil spirits."

"Soothing that rage is
also the way of Yin and Yang."

Comfort the ill heart with
love as you arrive at the end.

Evil spirits, disperse! Evil spirits, disperse!
When you are bothered by malice and enmity...

Douman! Seiman! Douman! Seiman!
Get the Onmyoji to suppress them. Let's go!

"When a person feels pain and sorrow, the darkness can grow in the crevices of that person's heart.
In the darkness of that heart, the apparitions will enter without any mercy!
Therefore, even if it painful, don't be crushed! Don't be sad! Don't brood over it!
Because a tenacious heart that does not submit to anything is, for sure, the strongest weapon!"

Crush what the quivering heart
is aiming for in solitude!

Evil spirits, disperse! Evil spirits, disperse!
When you are bothered by supernatural phenomenon...

Douman! Seiman! Douman! Seiman!
Get the Onmyoji to purify them. Let's go!

Evil spirits, disperse! Evil spirits, disperse!
When you are bothered by charms and curses...

Douman! Seiman! Douman! Seiman!
Have a discussion with the Onmyoji. Let's go!

As we thought, the Onmyoji is reliable. Let's go!

Everybody's hero: Yin! Yang! Master!

"Become a Buddha!"

The lyrics you posted might as well have been:

Pizza in the morning
Pizza in the evenin'
Pizza at supper-time!
When pizza's on a bagel, you can have pizza anytime!

That, at least, requires abstract thought, as opposed to just describing things.

I don't get trance, anyway. Must be all those drugs kids are doing nowadays. Gee gosh!

Mike Patton once said "I think that too many people think too much about my lyrics. I am more a person who works with the sound of a word than with its meaning. Often I just choose the words because of the rhythm not because of the meaning"

Thom Yorke from Radiohead also once mentioned that he wanted to use his voice more like an instrument rather than to just display a message. I've tended to agree with both of these men. I feel that lyrics should be seen as another instrument and used in the same manner.

Sit down, stand up
Sit down, stand up
Walk into the jaws of hell (sit down, stand up)
Walk into the jaws of hell (sit down, stand up)
Anytime (sit down)
Anytime (stand up)
Sit down, stand up
Sit down, stand up
We can wipe you out anytime (sit down, stand up)
We can wipe you out (sit down, stand up)
Anytime (sit down)
Anytime
Stand up (the rain drops the rain drops)
Sit down (the rain drops the rain drops)
Oh
The rain drops [x46]

I like the band and that song's catchy.
But I feel ashamed singing the lyrics.

I just tune out lyrics if I don't like them/don't care to hear them. It's a lot easier to do than I once thought.

I listen to music more so for the lyrics and vocals and not the beats. That's why I'm not really a fan of trance or music like that, and my friend and I have had discussions about it (he likes it). It often bugs me when an artist includes a random line or something that seems out of place in one of their tracks. Then again, I do like some soundtracks and instrumentals, but maybe it's more like "get it right, or don't do it at all."

Not that liking trance or whatever is a bad thing.

Lyrics=/=techno/electronica

I do like Trance. Just, I don't prefer electronica with words, unless it's done right.

I can never get lyrics right. Even to the most simplist of songs,
"Mary had a little can lamb. A little spam can lamb."
XD

I to think that trance shouldn't have words unless it's some foreign language that long to say or just operatic like things.

I'm kinda notorious for that too ^^; Yet I still sing at the top of my lungs!

Opera Trance kicks industrial amounts of all. I just think of Matt Darey featuring Izzy - Eternity or DJ Quicksilver - Ameno and I'm in heaven.

The genre really needs more Trance tunes that take hints from classical music.

Armin van Buuren does some good vocal trance, but for the most part yeah, trance lyrics tend to suck and should die. <_>

I listen to a lot of death metal, and that usually is pretty hard to understand unless I have the lyrics in front of me, only few singers can really make their selves understandable like George Fisher from Cannibal Corpse or Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy. However, even if I can understand the lyrics as is the case when I listen to power metal or j-pop or j-rock something, I don't always pay attention.
