View Full Version : PC/PS2 Where IS everyone?

I'm probably going to get a super flame for this question, but where exactly are all the awesome, cool, funny people? I go to lobbies and they're either deserted or filled with people spamming obscene, racist things and think it's cool (you know who you are). Is this PSU's population now? I mean, is this all that's to be expected from the PSU community? I checked the "official" pso-world server and it was completely deserted or full of locked parties, so I gave up on that a while ago.

I'd like to chat with people who don't spew out insults every 2 seconds, who knows how to hold a decent conversation and knows how to have fun and chill the heck out. Is that waaay too much to ask for? Am I a "nub" for wanting that much? Where is the community?!

Raffon Field Base was the exact same way, back in the very early v1 days. I don't believe much as changed aside from a lower population.

Most people have groups of friends that they party with exclusively, or they're item hunting solo. I too wish there was a better sense of community in-game, but at least we have the PSOW community.

uh hem, that's waaay too much if you're asking them to behave themselves. i would just avoid those bad-mouth strangers for the sake of brain damage or me going nuts with their cursing.

Yay! I'm not the only person who noticed the little "cliques." It's really annoying, especially since the PSU community is as small as it is. But yeah, at least we have the PSOW community. Or at least the community that's open to at least meeting new people.

I'm not asking them to behave themselves, they obviously don't have the sense to do so. I'm just asking about the cool people who CAN behave and aren't into those silly little elitist cliques that shuns everyone else. Really, the community is too small for that.

all the cool people stay away from uni 2.. (no offense to anyone on uni 2 that actually is a decent human being)

No offense taken. I just go there in hopes to meet a decent human being.

But where are they all? It's like finding a needle in a haystack, I swear. It'd be nice if they all stayed on one server. An event to get everyone together would be nice. A social event.

They're not all necessarily 'cliques.' Most 'cliques' I've ever encountered don't let anyone else in >_>

I know I have a group of friends I normally hang around with in game, but others are more then welcome to join us. It's just nice to have a set group to play with since, like you guys have stated, there are quite a few annoying assholes who play the game too.

There's good people, you just have to find us. I tend to hang out on Uni 13 / 2 :P

Though all I've been doing recently is spamming caves of ice and leveling techs because I'm bored to tears x_x

But I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees the problem here. We all really should get together, we're just too spread out and isolated! I'm thinking about organizing an event now so we all can seriously make some NEW friends. Good people, you know? Who would be up for it??

Actually the game is JUST RIGHT for elitist (lol) cliques. It's made for it.

For two years solid I've had some group of about a dozen people that I reliably hang out with. Between everyone's schedules and life's little ups and downs that's how many people it takes to reliably fill a team most of the time... once you've got that full team you're on postcards-and-telegrams communications at best with everyone else you know, making it hard to stay in close contact even if they're really cool.

sorry for being isolated from the rest. lol. i wouldn't mind playing with nice people if i have the chance, but all the good people i once played with were all gone and doing something else. i am quite bore, so i play PSU by myself all the time and go to work the next day. Never had a chance to really make any close friends online.

I understand what you're saying, but it still sounds like you chose to just stay in close contact with a select few people. If you wanted to talk to other people more, you would. Especially since they're about a click away, it's really not that big of a hassle. o.o; So, you really just kind of proved my point.

I don't see the problem in having a close group of friends that you can rely on...

A lot of people are willing to make new friends, yes, but wouldn't you stick closer to the people you've known longer?

I have really good friends on there that I can even call on the phone to get on. It's nice to have that kind of trust.

I'm more then willing to make new friends too though. I haven't been on much lately since I'm bored to tears...but yeah XD

Jul 15, 2008, 02:32 PM
Alternatively, you could try joining some of the social groups here and getting to know some of the people. Before you know it, you'll be in-game and playing together if all goes well.

On a side note, I can't say I see the community in the populated universes as bad as you claim it to be. However, this is all opinion, and results vary with each experience. Some days aren't so good, while other days you could meet a few cool people. It just might take some time in my opinion.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with having a close group of friends, it's great. The problem comes in when you avoid people you don't know for that small group. How do you meet people that could possible become a good friend? You had to do that with your close group of friends. But when they quit or have RL issues come up, you're left alone, so that "clique" mentality backfires.

I'm just saying, it's way more beneficial and way more fun to keep an open mind. It's the anxiety of running into idiots thats making all the good people solo, it seems.

Said it before, and Dragwind said it in here. We should really start making use of the player matchup thread, not just for random clan garbage. This is really important for the "rogue" pc/ps2 players left out there.

By rogue, I mean I've never considered myself in a clan, but I do have a good group of friends I usually play with...just because I know these guys are competitive, consistent, competent, and funny. All those things together make a good game for me, so ya, it is a bit hard for me to want to diversify outside of that group except for when they are not online.

If we had a thread in player matchup dedicated to hooking up decent pc/ps2 (the same concept can be done for 360, just saying pc/ps2 cause that's what I play on) players for games anytime, would people be interested? I've seriously thought about making such a thread before, just don't want the typical "lol fail" response most of the clans get in there. Again, it would not be a clan or anything to do with that. Just a place for PSOW'ers to see what missions are currently being run by people, and find a team quickly. Feedback?

That's what I'm saying! The player matchup section sucks. XD

I think you have a good idea there. The whole point is to get "rogues", as you call them, on PSU to come together. My only concern is that the whole "anxiety" issue that a lot of players seem to have will prevent the idea from taking off. Thats why I'm thinking a get-together to warm people up to the idea of meeting and being around new people would help. It looks like most people would love to branch out. Not only that, but it'd be an opportunity to promote the use of the player match-up thread. Right?

Well trust isn't something that's given right off the bat anyway, it's something that's earned. There will always be scammers or whatever out there, but on the other hand, there will also always be decent people. Time is the only thing that sorts out the two, and an actual matchup thread would at least give people the ability to meet up with some new people that they may be familiar with on here. Given some time, trust issues can be sorted out from there.

Oh, I understand completely. -.-

But taking a chance different with people is the only way to really make friends. I had to learn that, and it sucks every time when I do it. But I've made my best friends that way. ^_^

Honestly I haven't run into anyone like that. I, and everyone else I've met seem pretty open about hanging out with others on the game. Maybe that's just me and luck though.

You're last sentence is pretty accurate though. There are a lot of idiots out there.

That's why we're trying to think of ways to come together, that way it'd keep bumping into those types of people to a minimum. Cracka's idea would also weed those people out because I'm sure people would point out the jerks in the threads.

Really, just something needs to be done to bring all the good people together, I just can't stress this enough. New good friends can be made if given the opportunity.

lol well when you get into that situation let me know how it goes.

I feel the same way about getting parenting advice from people who don't have kids too.

EDIT: I've met a lot of interesting people (and nobody irritating) in random universe casinos. A lot of folks head to the casino once per day for their coin. If you had to pick a spot for catching people casino's the most likely.

Well it seems that most people in this thread are open to the idea.

I'll start a new thread in player matchup, type up what I can for a decent description of what's trying to be done, and go from there. If something positive comes out of it, great, if not, oh well. I guess trying to make an effort is the first step to get something to happen.

I'll post a link back in this thread (and likely add it to my sig) after I get things typed up.

Lots of the good players dropped out also.
This game really isn't difficult anymore, so lots of unskilled people are thriving here, yet their numbars are starting to dwindle as well, due to lack of service and thinking the game is now "boring" to them as well.
It might just end up with a tiny population of addicts who still play the game, sad as it sounds to us all.

Sadly, I mostly play this game alone nowadays. I don't have a whole lot of friends online, everyone I play with and give my card to I hardly ever play with again, and the general public only does White Beast (bleh).

The only time I'm not playing solo nowadays is when I'm playing with my brother. Which is probably why I've mostly stopped playing altogether.

I know what you mean with people who can't seem to grow up always spamming meaningless crap in lobbies.

Since I've been playing PSU for a while now, I have my list of people who I keep in contact with. I too have been looking for new people to talk to, but as you know it keeps getting harder to find interesting people in PSU.

I've noticed that I only keep playing PSU to chat with people... I see PSU as an expensive version of MSN messenger!

Actually the biggest issue I have is the way PSOW is openly advertising Uni 15, but being in locked parties. That sounds pretty dumb - it's like inviting someone to your house and not bothering to open the door for them when they want to come in. This is part of the reason why I stopped going to Uni 15 since I see a locked parties everywhere. I could post on the Player Matchup section, but what's the point of openly advertising a "PSOW Universe" when there's no way of easily gaming with them?

PSOW's PSOBB ship was much better in this regard. Most games were open, so curious individuals could hop in and start making friends immediately.

Really, I think everyone is in pretty similar situations. I'd recommend checking the link in pipiruu's sig, as an organized PSOW gathering thread for this sunday has been made.

Personally I've talked to a lot of you people on the forums, but outside of the "usual gang" I play with, I think I've really only played with a handful of you in-game. So it'll be nice to meet up with a few of you and hopefully find a few people that play as frequently as I do, and can rely on to run with. We'll see how it goes. We're definitely at a point where any effort (no matter how small or large) made to bring this community together is appreciated. And it's not like we're getting any support from SEGA, so this is something the community has to do on it's own if we want a future for this game.

Everyone quit or is not playing due to lack of updates.

I'd have fun with the existing content, if there were people to play with when my friends aren't online.

Vacation could not have come at a better time for me. If things don't improve in another week, the PC/PS2 population will get even worse, and I might be forced to cancel my License for a while.

You can't say "everyone" quit. WE'RE still here, and that's a good number of people.

The point of the event is meet new people so you can have people to play with, maybe even when your friends ARE on. I'm at a loss for ideas to attract new players, but what we can do as a community is bring the existing players together. So, before you cancel your license, join us at the Summer Social. ^___^
