I see a lot of female gendered characters in PSU, probably more so than male chars. Does anyone know if this game has a popular female following? Are there women playing the game?

for the inexperienced OP, yes there are quiet a bit of female players on the 360 side. Shame they get constanlty harrassed or stalked. My good friend who plays on the 360 side, she won 12mill from this Fashion contest a while back.

PSU does indeed seem to have a bigger female playerbase than many other games I've played (at least, a bigger female to male ratio than others). I personally believe it's due to the fact that PSU has a very strong anime style to it. Despite what the stereotype says, anime attracts many, many females, and, could easily be the reason why you see so many girl gamers on PSU.

And if you don't believe me, well... Goto an anime convention. >_> It's quite a shocking experience.

GENDAH CONFUZZLEMENT!!! D:

Me? Well...
GENDAH CONFUZZLEMENT!!! D:

butsrsly...

There's one thing I absolutely hate about the male models in PSU...too freakin' muscled. Damnit, SEGA. We got a shota-sized kid who's as thin as a toothpick with a six-pack and beefy arm muscles. Then we got a fat guy with a six-pack and beefy arm muscles (...okay, that's understandable in some cases). It's just sickening to look at, even with an average body. And I don't think we have enough females in PSU to have the hots all over those muscles.
And most of the male clothing (and especially CAST parts) is made of Fail material...also, Kerselines.

most female chars = guys playing them. sometimes when you play a game 4-5 hours a day u wanna look at a nice female frame instead of a guy's ass.
Quote'd for win and pie...the pie is the truth.

And isn't it just utterly amusing when some dumb nub hits on you 'cause you got a female body? Just for some li'l nightly entertainment...I actually got some love-sick fellow to give me a free S-Rank weapon. But I won't be pointing out any fingers. ...But, I'm not really that evil, and that was the only time I ever did that. This idiot just begged for that moment to happen. But other than that, it's sometimes pathetic when you gotta resort to something as bad as that.

...All that, and also roleplaying. No, not cybering. GTFOAFM.

*facepalm* Seriously? Have you ever played a video game whereyou make your own character before?

I have made a few actual female friends via PSU, but a good few of the people who use female characters (myself included) are guys. Not sure if I'd say the majority of them, but somehow I'm thinking it wouldn't be a bad bet. It's not as if I have this fascination with certain aspects of female physiology (read: OMGBEEEWBS), but they are easier on the eyes (generally speaking. I HAVE seen some characters that are crimes against humanity, but that's true of both genders) and where some animations look slightly different for each gender, I tend to prefer the female ones.

If you think that PSU has a lot of girl characters, wait until Age of Conan comes to 360 next year. I currently play it on my PC(barely. specs are crazy) the girl characters can...wait for it...go topless. Though most people don't stay topless because you can't where armor. The graphics are very real looking too. On PSU I play two males and two females.

Yusaku_Kudou

I'm a girl who plays on the 360 side. I rarely speak--not that I get hit on; I don't sound like a 16-year old cheerleader--but only two of my four characters are female, yet I do play with them extremely disproportionately compared to my human and CAST males. It's certainly not the half-assed anime styled that draws me to PSU, but the loot, PA leveling, and community.

I am a guy, and I have almost always play female chars. in any rpg where they give you a choice, it's a female char for me... I feel like vicious female heros don't get enough play in stories, old and new. sure there are lots of seductress types, and some matronly power types but the ratio of heros to hero'esses is off big time. I also find some enjoyment in watching the girls beat the boys to the punch too!

I sometimes don't realize that friends actually think that I'm a girl irl, and some of them ended up getting hurt or very asshamed. (I usually never straight up say "lol I got a peniss" or "I'm a male.." because I find it ridiculous how it actually matters if one is a girl or a boy, so I never cared about that)
I already got a few friends who distanced themselves away from me, yet told me "yeah we're friends anyways".

Actually I started with a male beast character. Thing was I got this game on the first day and male beasts never had any luck. It always seemed like the females got all of the luck, most specifically the female newman. I took that into account when making my alt characters. It would be nice to at least have one character with luck every now and then. I must admit male beasts are getting a little more love luck wise recently though.

I think its funny when a guy playing as a girl says, "Why does everyone think I'm a girl? :( *baw baw baw*".

If you're playing as a female, I'm going to assume you're a female. 'Nuff said. Even if I know the person is a guy, I sometimes forget. Its sooo much easier to just assume someone's gender by what they're playing as. I have female characters too, and I dont mind when someone thinks I'm a girl, because at the moment, my image is that of a female. 'Course I don't go around giving cyberz to creepos and pretending I'm a girl, I'm just not bothered by it.

Out of my three characters, only one (Syl) is a female, and a Beast at that. I usually have more fun when playing as her, although that probably has to do with being a Protranser. Damn that class is fun.

Coming in second is my male Cast, FAILcast. Fighgunner is fun as well, but I seem to get bored playing as him a lot easier.

Then in third is my male Human, which someone told me to name Hyoo-man for the hell of it (less hilarity ensued than we thought, but I have gotten booted from parties for it). He's an Acrofighter, another fun class to play, and I plan on switching him to Acrotecher sometime soon since that looks fun.

So yes, I am male in real life, but the character I use the most is female in PSU. Has nothing to do with "o lol breasts" or anything of the sort, but I had already made a goofy-looking Cast, a Human that looks like Riku (but I gave him a different outfit recently), so what I thought would be best as the third one would be a beautiful Beast woman. Would've done a loli Newman girl if my last slot wasn't filled by Zeru back when he shared my account, though.

heshes or shemales in my book.

I also did try to name my females so ridiculous that most people should be able to guess that I was male. I suppose my only semi-normal female name is Kailyn, who's name I stole from a character I designed several years back.

I really doubt there's any females out there who would actually agree to naming their character "Sexual Favors" in an online mmo, unless they were just looking for punishment. On the other hand, I don't have to care...the conversation ends at "lol I'ma guy".

Imo girls on this game just look better, guys are weirdly proportioned and what you thought was good when you made them looks weird with clothes on. I started with a 2:2 ratio with my characters but I'm 3:1 now. Female characters have better faces, way better hairstyles, WAY better clothing / parts choices. My RL guy friends who play the game play females for the same reasons. 360 is a lot worse than pc servers. i never talk in party or even tell people i'm a girl. it makes it a great deal easier in the long run. esp considering that a great deal of the people who play psu are teenage males who seems to think that it gives them some right to act like a horse's ass and say some very wrong/ rude things to a woman, and sometimes it does single me out. like in halo 3 other players seem to go to killing me a lot faster cus of my gamertag.

i really dont see an issue with the gender of your guys in game......... but then you get those kids who "why are you a GIRL?? you arnt a GIRL IRL??" next breath "hold on cover me while i go beast." to which i reply as i leave party "why are you a BEAST?? you arnt a BEAST IRL??" next breath " BYE"

Guys on psu are dumb, they shouldn't go flirting with every female character they see and giving then s-ranks items (shit i'm not giving no1 my stuff...female or not) knowing that most are guys...... and if they don't know that then there's something wrong or this is his first mmo.

Though one thing that always get me is that when anyone sees a guy character they always think it's a guy. I knew some females that played with guys...

I agree that all female chars are played by male until proven.

All of my male friends except for me play as female chars. They should expect to be hit on, but not get any items.

Those newman females are smoking!! (I'm terribly upset because I think the story mode forces you to get with Laia when I love Maya Shidow with a passion, my #1 NPC)

I feel like its misrepresentation to the online community if you don't play the sex you are in RL in the game. I would never want to play as a female PERIOD.

One of my shortcuts says "You really aren't female are you sicko?"

I'm sure it is an easy opening line for anyone to say, "Did you know that almost all of the female characters in this game are played by males. I'm glad there are people like your around."

Currently I am half and half in the ratio of girls to boys. My M Beast is a FF and my M CAST is a FiG; my F CAST is a GT and my F Human is a PT.

In ALL games I make my fighters male, archers/range female and magic/tech female. Along with that I usually make them smaller if I am given the capability in whichever game I am playing; I do this because I feel as if gunners/techers don't unnecessarily need all the brute strength which are generally tied down to male traits.

My only exception was my my F PT who is a look-a-like of Yoruichi in which I use mostly striking; the main reason for it were the traps in which I found to be a "stealthy way" of attacking which in turn corresponds to her previous role as the 2nd division captain and the leader stealth forces unit.

While everyone is a man until proven otherwise is a "safe" way to look at things, what exactly defines proving? I would have to say I have met around 25 girls on PSU maybe more and currently have 4 on my list.

Oh yeah, and take into thought that Many Men Online Role Play Girls.

I agree with the gender confusement post a bit back... >_>;

Some guys actually do play to look at a female more, buuut a LOT of guys aren't sure of what they are in this game.

Annnd most gay dudes that like anime just happen to be ukes. Theres no semes in PSU. TRUST ME.

I actually find all these gender confusion theories quite ridiculous.
If a player's motivation is to look at something he finds (sexually) attractive, then a gay player will play a male character in PSU, not a girl. Especially since they all look like clones from the village, with perfect six packs and muscular arms... kind of a perfect turn on for gay guys I suppose.

so according to such criteria, most male players on PSU are gay, since they use male characters for the most part.

It obviously doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

I see no correlation between the gender of your avatar and your potential doubts on your sexual orientation, or some gender confusion. If you think that... you're either 14 and going through your teenage sexual identity crisis, or... you're really wierd man...

Leseee.... I am female. I have three female characters, and one male newman... but he's pretty girly. I even put him in a dress- er robes. I was planning on having half and half, but I ended up going for a girl cast with sudden inspiration from Breath of Fire nostalgia.

I find that people are often a bit more eager to be my friendwhen I'm playing on one of my girls; my girly typing probably gives it away. Lots of smilies. I find that people treat me a bit differently when I play BlackWaltz#3. I usually change my typing style a little, to see what happens.

Why a boy at all? I wanted to have a little fun with all that PSU offered. Sadly no male cast=no male cast parts to have fun with (I wish they gave us one more slot T_T ), so I have two girls, one caseal, and one boy; beasr, human, cast, neuman.

Come to think of it, BlackWaltz#3 was my only male on PSO too. But the way the girls ran in PSO pissed me off so much. Little girly bouncy jog. Too dainty for what a Guardian does. I was quite relieved to see they changed that animation for PSU.

I was so mad when Laia came out. It was like they swiped my badass beast girl idea, then gave it the cool story character beast ears and unobtainable awesome clothes. :p Well, Laia still needs to look upwards at my character in story mode.

er... well don't ask me... read the thread... a fair portion of it was about players preferring to look at nice looking and attractive avatars (guiding character creation), with some hazy conclusions on sexual orientation and gender confusion.

I was pointing out the ridicule of the latter.

Never fails. A topic gets started asking how many females play this game, and it goes on for 10 pages. I guess girls will always be a hot topic in any videogame forum. ;p

Anyway, I only have 3 characters, and they're all female. But that really has a lot more to do with the fact that I generally don't like how the males look in this game. Otherwise, I'd probably have at least one or two male characters to balance things out. Plus, the females do tend to have better clothing options. My only gripe at all is they need more pants instead of skirts, stockings, or some other frilly crap.

Also, from personal experience at least, it seems a fair amount of women play PSU. But it's not an unusually high amount that I've noticed. I meet quite a few female gamers in every online game I play, so I think it's rather normal to see girl gamers in an MMO. I'm sure the social aspect of MMO's has a lot to do with that since most girls anyway love to chat, and MMO's are a great place to do that while also playing a game they enjoy too. Sorta like a glorified chatroom, but with a game and world attached to it.

Wow i didn't think this topic would get this big... (should of known though)

I don't see what with all the controversy about who playing with what character.

A guy plays as a guy... so what
A guy plays as a girl... so what
A girl plays as a girl... so what
A girl plays as a guy... so what

People can play with whoever the f*** they want to play with. They pay 9.99 every month to do what ever they want in the game. If guy create a girl so he doesn't have to look at a guy behind 24/7 then he can do that or if they guy is gay and wants to play as a girl to be more female like then he can do that. (and vice verse for girls)

And as far as they confusing gender thing goes... so what if you don't really know if he/she is a he or she. if that person wants you to think he's a girl when he really a guy then that's what he's going to do and there really no way you can find out if he's good at it (unless you use the mic) but for the most part guys usually tell you there a guy if you ask them. So instead of b****ing when you find out that the girl you was hitting on was a guy try asking 1st before you go firting geez

And besides most girls hate it when they get hit on all the time. Instead of trying to pick up on girl in a video game (when they most likely live far away from you and you never met then in real life) yall need to go out in the real world and stop being scared and ask out REAL females!

I agree that this was pretty much the best post in the thread. Who cares about why someone plays a certain gender?

They can if they want to and it won't affect you in any way UNLESS you hit on them and then you feel embarrassed afterwards, and that's your own fault for pursuing a relationship via an online game.

Almost all the guys I know play girl characters except 3, and those guys even acknowledge that there are benefits to playing female characters that they hadn't thought about when they were making their mains. The same goes for just about all the girls I know that play, most of them have at least one guy character, but it DOESN'T MATTER, because as long as people are having fun, who cares what the real gender is of the person you're playing with.

And I totally agree that females get hit on WAY too much, and it can often lead to some really uncomfortable situations. If you get upset because someone is playing the wrong gender, you're also probably one of the people that causes those uncomfortable situations. Please, learn to keep it in your pants and everyone can bypass this whole mess.

That actually cracks me up, because every single true female player I've known in this game (360) (and actually played the game since that outfit came out) has worn that outfit. Fairly often.

My female characters totally refuse to wear that outfit because it would be so out-of-character for them to do it. Completely out of their styles.

Still, to tell the truth, out of pretty much all of the Online RPGs I've ever played; this seems to be the only one that truly gives the player this much variety over their clothes and fashion without the need to hunt hundreds of hours to finally earn a set. (And normally those sets aren't interchangable). The idea that shields are invisible barriers which only show up as a small part of the clothing (color) was kind of ingenious. It basically made the simple and common answer to the question of "You're going to fight, wearing what??!?!?!!" something that makes a little more sense. (Of course, fighting in heels and stuff is still silly, but it helps explain away the other stuff).

Oddly enough, the fact that there are more athletic style shoes to wear in this game is nice. I feel a character really feels natural running around in them.

Anyway, the anime portion helps attract a more diverse crowd, and the customization options also increase the audience size. Like it or not, that ability expands the kinds of stuff you can enjoy to do in the game and thus helps the diversity of the population. Even though we do ask for better customization options, often enough, other online MMOs hardly go anywhere as far as PSU does with it. It's just that those who have *other* games like the SIMS or something have seen some customization options that they'd like here as well. (Or just the fact that it goes so far with them, just a little more can't hurt).

I just like to call it like this. Players love the option to create stuff. It's probably the sole reason why people like Will Wright make sales hand over fist. It's pretty nice that you also have a variety of plain fun fast-action combat as a base. Everybody loves a good hack and slash, or Dungeon Crawler every now and then.
