Nope, there's no way of backing up your character without using some kind of hack.

But its for the better, it'd be way too easy to dupe if we could. Althought there should be some way back it up.

Honestly I would be happy if we could just back up the character data without items. I don't care so much about the items (save for my Mag) because you can always hunt for them again and probably find them. You aren't going to find you level 118 RAmar just sitting around in the forest.
