Sturm Vs. Cataract?

Which one deals out more damage by the end of the SUV? I'm being told that the Sturm does more....

I feel that Paradi Cataract dish out more dmg faster, plus they have a much shorter animation.

Although, i kinda wish it were a bit longer animation on that Paradi SUV.
You hardly notice it being used and can´t throughly enjoy the lazer rain, before it´s over.

It depends. Sturm has a larger area, so if you are in a big room, you will hit just about everything. That's not always the case with Cataract. Also, Sturm throws out Burn (SE3 I think). In the event that the direct damage doesn't kill all your targets, the Burn will probably bring them down to 1 HP.

Paradi is much better than Sturm because
1) Cataract does not juggle monsters (very important)
2) Cataract freezes monsters
3) Cataract has a higher damage modifier thus most likely killing a whole wave of monsters in 1 SUV shot.

Sturm takes too long and is no good for things that warp or single enemies (bosses), but I can see it being better than PC in that it's longer too because it can damage the mob after the mob it kills sometimes. However, I'd say let PC replace Sturm if you get an s rank line shield.

For speed C-runs in MAG, if using a 100+ level character Sturm>>>Paradi. The longer animation allow for killing additional enemies that have a secondary or delayed spawn that Paradi would miss. For lower level characters Paradi's additional damage is needed in order to kill medium enemies. Also note that Paradi causes less lag for the rest of the party so in general it is better in most cases. If you are doing Speed C-runs use a Sturm (<8:00 mins); if you are doing anything else use a Paradi.

Don't forget about the Burn!. If you are a low level character, your ATP is going to suck. The Burn from the end of Sturm will far outdamage Cataract. Although if you are really low, you won't be able to equip an S-rank armor for Cataract anyway.

Maybe for soloing, but Paradi Cataract likes to freeze, giving your party a few free hits in case the damage doesn't exactly kill them.

At 69 I can do quite a lot of damage with Paradi, but then again I'm a FiG 14 or whatever. If your class isn't exactly ATP-heavy like the techer classes (Wartecher might be fine), then Sturm might be a better choice, sure. Gunner and fighter classes should do well with Cataract. Protranser... Well, you have the bad-ass EX traps to back you up, right? No matter what, you're fine.

Honestly, though, don't worry about if one is just a little bit better. Go with the one you like. If the other is light-years better, then maybe you should switch, but otherwise it doesn't matter.

That's just damage. If you take into account the animation for Paradi Cataract is roughly three times shorter than that of Sturm Buster, you have a stupidly high difference in DPS.

The shorter animation also allows you to go back to hitting the monsters with your weapons a lot sooner, further increasing the gap between Paradi Cataract and Sturm Buster (or any other SUV, for that matter).

they are good for differnet situations (much like everything else)

paradi deals the most damage per mob

*however*

the sturm last longer which means:

if you are in a room with 5 mobs, and use Paradi, the mobs all die. SUV is over

if you are in a room with 5 mobs, and use Sturm, the first 5 die, then 5 more spawn and they are also killed, or at least set on fire

meawhile: the burn effect

for large mobs the burn effect is nice

when you are low level fighting higher ups, the burn is nice

when you are alone, the burn is nice

*but*

when you are in a group of people who are kicking ass, the burn will barely have a chance to tick once or twice before the mobs are killed anyway

Freezing a big mob is really more handy for a party setup then burning it.
the melee guys have a field day with frozen mobs - they won't last long

summary:
use paradi when you are simply flying through kicking ass
use sturm when you only have A rank armor available ;)

once I got paradi, I never looked back. the longer animation is rarely an asset and sturm will not kill higher lvl mobs because of all the juggling. I'll take the 20k damage in 4 seconds (including the startup animation). Gaozorans run in fear of a paradi...sturm they laugh at you for even having it in your inventory.

Which one is that again? Is that the sword one? That was my first SUV. So awesome. Second was the big set of arms that punches things, then I got Grom Attacker(Right? The one that shoots five long-lasting lasers in front of you.). Recently I got Paradi, and I don't regret switching. I just changed FAILcast's SUV phrase from saying FAILlaser to Divine Failure.
