Do single player chars transfer over to multiplayer

I'm over in Iraq right now and got PSP on the way over here; hell if the internet around here is decent enough to connect to XLink Kai to play with anyone, so I gotta develop a char by myself until I return to the US.

If I go through singleplayer, can I bring my char to multiplayer? Or are things like PSU in that sense?

Your story mode character = Your Multiplayer character. :)
