Ok, people getting corrupted over the last week has made this seem like an epedemic. I have been playing every night online for the past 4 days, and the new double save hasnt affected me or any of my guild card friends. (8 rows)

If you're afraid of your high level character getting a small chance of corruption you are over thinking this. Maybe you will get corrupted anyway, or HERES AN IDEA, maybe NOTHING will happen at all.

Dont be scared. Im waiting.

Well, Sega is at least aware of the problem now, though they still have no clue WHY it's happening. I think if they run out of options they'll simply eliminate the double save and try and find some other, less destructive way to plug the duping leak.

Why not get a separate memory card and back up all of your character data on the other one? I've done this before and kept my data for offline multi mode. But i haven't a clue if this will work for online play.

why not? couldn't you just take a second mem card, put alla happy fun pso info on it, then start up in offline, sit in the ship, swap mem cards, from primary, to second, and then quit? I mean as long as you swap yer cards while the game isn't actively saveing you shouldn't toast yer character files right?

I noticed too. Only about half the people.
I've been playing my lvl 112 FO online everyday now, and haven't seen 1 FSOD or corruption.
Are the people getting corrupted/FSOD carrying duped items? If you trade you may not ever really know if its duped.
I have nothing duped and I haven't had an FSOD yet.

swapping mem-cards before saving... this would be duping. when the game doesnt find the original files on that new memcard where the character it loaded came from, it will refuse to save. simple as that.

last time. i know it's for online. i just think that the movement of characters from one memory card to the next and back again may cause a problem or flaw in the coding. i'm just asking questions.

Just get online. If you dont enjoy this game enough to start over after corruption, then you dont enjoy it enough to keep playing. I remind myself everytime I play that my characters mean nothing, because any second they could be lost.

As long as my gamecube works, servers stay up, got parents with credit cards...

I'm still online but whats everyone talking about when they say there character got deleted the worst it does to me is say my character is corrupted and then I just go into offline and quit the game and its fixed.

I have been enjoying the game for 400+ hours. I've enjoyed it so much that each of my characters have become like friends to me. I can tell you right now that it won't be as enjoyable if I suddenly have to start from square one again due to circumstances beyond my control. If I'm gonna start over, I'm gonna start over myself. I'm not gonna risk 400+ hours of gameplay to a glitchy save system. I get the online experience with multi-player mode and that's fine with me.

i think that it is very well possible to save your character to another memory char...make a dummy character on your second memory card...put that in slot 1..then..take your real memory card and put it in slot 2..go into multi mode..transferyour real character to a temp slot on your dummy card...im not sure if it does work..but im sure theres some glitch that would make it possible...

i wouldnt mind being itemless but with my characters and their current levels..that dont bother me..because i oculd just go and fight in lower difficulties till i find a weapon that is good enough to kill ult monsters and build my item base back up from there...i wouldnt reccomend tryin what i stated above unless you have 2 memory cards that have nothing you care about on them...if i run into some money i'll buy 2 new cards and try it..it would be so great ....everyone would love me...lmao..anyway..if you wanna try it first..be my guest...later

Isn't that what i've been saying since the beginning?
Here's how you back up characters:

1. Go into offline multi mode
2. use your good character memory card in the first slot
3. transfer over.
4. start playing multi mode.
5. after thougholy enjoying self, select quit game
6. when on the screen that has Change Character, Change Mode/options and Quit game, hit the power button.
7. Play online with no risk of corruption and losing all that work you've done.

BTW, i've got a tip not to go through Ryuker or Telepipe gates online. just get killed or finish the level.

I can tell you right now it's not going to work. ST has already guarded against people trying this. Either the orignal character won't work, or your character will be corrupted because the backup character will have a timestamp that's older then the orignal.

That won't work. Sure, you transfer your character to another memory card, but, heres the thing: Once you get corrupted, the memory card you got corrupted WILL NOT accept the data.

Sheeit, I hate it when people think they know shit when they don't... The ONLY way you can back up characters is using the "Save to another memory card" code with the Pro Action Replay, coming Feb. 12th.

And YES, I KNOW that this code is another dupe method, but dammit, at least you'll still have your characters. If you legits are so damn picky on this issue, then why don't you save to another memory card, and just delete everything you duplicated in the process? It's that simple. Security and/or safety ALWAYS comes at a price, people, that's just the way things are.

I haven't joined a game online since they "fixed" the duping. I just create my own game and let people join. If they wanna join my game and risk getting fsod, it's their problem. All the FSOD/Corruption accounts have been with poeple joining games. Just make your own games and you'll be fine. btw, Hayake, you are a newbie. That idea about ure stupid noob, idiotic idea about backing up your characters will not work.

My friend recently had his PSO data corrupted, his 115 FOmar gone, and the other three characters as well. Nevertheless, he made two new characters. Perhaps he had some duped stuff, though he says he's legit, he's not too picky about "rarer" items...Coincidence that people with dupes are getting corrupted, or is it just random people? Thinking about it makes me not want to play online, but I believe it's worth the risk and I've only got a month left to play the game. I would start over if I had to, get up to level 80 or so in a week...

Isn't quitting after getting ur data corrupted like commiting suicide after losing loved ones? You can quit you PSO life or continue a new one with new characters. Or maybe it's like death. Your character dies, he's never coming back. Sorry I have this problem where I have to relate things to other things heh it's just how i think of stuff to make things more understandable.

Well, I would get online if I could find a broadband adaptor for a reasonable price...The only store online I found to still have it was Toys 'r us...but I have a feeling it is probably backordered anyway or will take forever to get here.

The cheapest I found it on ebay was $37 used, and $40 new...but shipping for them was $10 then you have to include insurance and.... /sigh.

I was going to wait for the Xbox version...but I've had the gc version of the game since release now...and I would need to buy XBL plus the game =(

Then there is the whole voice communication, but seperation of servers....then again GC has joint servers, but limited communication, unless I want to fork out $100+ for a keyboard controller.
