Being that I work as a VoIP technical support agent, I thought this may be helpful to those of you who always seem to have lag. A lot of the ideas are quite the same between VoIP and gaming protocols. Here are a couple of hints to make sure you've got lagless sessions

1. Don't use Satellite or Wireless internet. Fact of the matter is these services will add tons of lag to your connection. http://www.dslreports.com/psearch?e=...te+Search+Form (http://www.dslreports.com/psearch?e=Complete+Search+Form) has a huge listing of DSL and Cable internet providers who may be able to service you even if you think no one comes to your area. (Make sure to put in a landline phone number, not your cell phone number or something. Otherwise you'll get false positive listings. Also please note that in certain areas there may be very limited listings for DSL, but those are most likely for T1+ carriers where by you would pay for the last mile connection and the line itself would likely be hundreds a month.)

2. Speed tests are your friend. I'm not talking about your standard up and down test. Since the game is constantly sending and receiving data, you need a stable connection that won't start and stop. For this you should check out http://myspeed.visualware.com/. Click the server near you and then run the test. (You'll need Java.) Once the test is complete, click onto the summary tab to the left and then click onto detailed analysis. This will provide you with the most detailed information about your connection and will show you if you've got a stability issue. The great thing about this tool is that once you're done with the test and on the detailed analysis, you can copy the URL at the top and send an email to your ISP to ask them what's going on once you make sure this isn't an internal network problem and that you've run it on multiple servers to make sure.

Hopefully this will help out any lag issues you're having.
