Photons, board?

What are these tree looking things/ Al-Photons, Grinders, Papers (Soda Hazzo) etc. used for? I'm confused

Well, IIRC, Al-photons, are photons in the story used to power those SEED defelctor things, but Photons in general are used for synthing boards ( the "paper") with different elemental attributes, Ray photons are Ice, Ban photons are Fire, Gra is light, Megi is Dark, Zon is lightning, Di is ground, and just plain photons are neutral, Im, and El photons are used to make ranged/tech weapons.

Grinders are used to upgrade weapons.
