I wouldn't bet on him in a fight... Imperial technology is, for the most part, absolute crap. (I mean, seriously, a lot of the stuff is maybe at most 50-100 years ahead of modern technology, even though the setting is millenia in the future)

It evolves slowly but when they have cannons that shatter planets.

And as for the Emperor, he destroyed his son's soul and banished the top chaos demons.
Technology is not the source of his power. Only the necron and the c'tan can dance with him (Necron tech is top of the top)

The Necrons should probably move on to Tau extermination in the next 1,000 years, or they'll probably become outclassed in the technology department. (I wonder what would happen if they were able to neutralize and capture a monolith or something... they'd have a fair chance to reverse-engineer it)

Tau outclassing Necron would be really hard since even as a mostly deromant race they are still advancing and they have a truly unbeatable unit (C'tan and one C'tan is the supposed Machine god) As for them taking a monolith, that would be quite hard since destroying the army of necron would be a stretch for them since only psychers can really hand them their ass if they get lucky.

I'm saying that the rate of technological advancement for the Tau is insane... They're already capable of easily laying waste to any vehicle the can see... The key would just be to get to the downed monolith before the necrons did their magic act.
