I just recently picked up Ambition Of Illuminus and wanted to ask a few question before I make the move over. I am under the impression that all items etc. from the original game are found in the expansion except for a few S rank items. I also read that Karen's player card does not transfer over either unless you transfer characters from extra mode.

My overall question is before I start running around in AOI what should I know before I do that. Is it recommended to first complete story mode in the original game and then create a toon in extra mode to obtain items that can't be found in AOI?

The plan was to first finish story mode in PSU then create a toon in extra mode to farm these items and gain access to Karen's card and then import into AOI....

Is this the best plan of attack?

Yes, it's the best plan, if you plan to stick with playing a lot of offline mode. If you've got the ability to play online mode, then don't bother, as you'll never touch offline mode.

Note that your extra mode character will also retain his or her level, and photon art levels, as well as equipment. This makes going through story mode much easier, in the new game.

If you play a Force, I recommend hunting a Whitill Wing unit in the old game, as it's a much easier drop. Also, grab a Me / Quick unit from the Yohmei shop. It speeds up technic casting, and in the expansion, you cannot simply buy it in the shop.

Thanks for the reply Astarin... Are there other items besides the Wing and the Me/Quick unit that I should be concerned about? I am not overly familiar with what items I need to specifically grab besides those 2.

Orpad/Guard if I remember correctly, if you want to use that.

Personally, I'd just go for AotI, PSUv1 can get srsly boring and annoying very fast, AotI at least has a bunch of other things to look for and with lvl 30 job, lvl 200 character and lvl 50 PAs, your character pretty much never stops growing. I think in PSUv1 you could max those three too fast. But again this is just personal, only the Me/Quick unit is useful and it isn't THAT amazing anyway. Whitill Wings are cute I guess but eh.

But like Astarin said, those are the only two items that you could easily get and then transfer.

Also if you wish, make a Svaltus Sword or two since you can make them go up to 80% element (or 70%), in AotI it's only possible to get to 50% and it takes too long (but it's worth mentioning that Swords SUCK compared to other weapons thanks to all the new PAs and multi-enemy-hitting system, it even allows Fists to hit a bunch of enemies with one PA). And this also applies for shields, the materials to make high lvl shields in PSUv1 are found off enemies in Dark Satellite while you hunt for Withill Wing, and trust me, 80% armor in AotI is specially useful when it's light or electric, since there's a mission with some strong and annoying electric enemies and this other with light enemies that put you to sleep; with that shield they'll never do that to you.

Also, you might wanna grind your weapons up to 10 or as high as possible, since in AotI grinding your weapons becomes a real pain in the butt, BUT in AotI when you make grinders, you can max out 99 on the first four, and then keep making but since your inventory is full, it will re-use the materials to make one again and just keep going until you get S Grinder +5. I'm currently trying to do that. If you're going to use Rifles, grind Blackbull or whichever is the strongest since it will be the best still in AotI, and also if you have Uransaras, go for them too, they're the strongest wand as well.

But then again, you'll get to a point where you become strong enough and all those things will just make the game turn into a joke.

And if you wanna see the kind of PAs waiting for you in AotI:

Video of every single one, well at least melee ones.

That was actually something I was wondering and a tad concerned about. With such a high lvl cap in offline mode once you hit say lvl 75 for example I am assuming things become like you said "a joke"? I assume so since it's probably not a situation were enemies start to scale with your lvl after awile right?

In PSUv1, even at like lvl 50, it all becomes pretty darn easy, if you're a Force, pretty much any AoE will do, specially Ice due it's freezing or Earth thanks to it's massive damage multiplier, for Hunters, Tornado Dance on a double-saber will do for big enemies, for Rangers I wouldn't know but I assume they have their good stuff.

As for AotI, to be honest, it depends on the way you play, since there are so many combinations and possibilities, the game can go from pretty easy to quite hard. Personally my Newman Force lvl 160+ still has issues at the last stage, mainly due those damn "Wizzards", they're almost inmune to my techniques, they teleport, they cause a lot of damage, they're in groups of even three and with other enemies around. But I can handle that, the real problem is not having enough PP to go through the entire place, by the third or so room half or more of my weapons are already PP-less. But ANY other mission is just cake, the difficulty jumps from "joke" to "wtf!?".

As for a Hunter, my beast has issues over there too but he's only lvl 96, who knows if he'll have an easier time, but my guess is yes, those PAs are ridiculously strong and more amusing to watch than most of techniques.

It's worth mentioning my Force is from PSUv1 with all the pluses, and my Hunter is 100% AotI. And again, with all the things in AotI, you can kiss PSUv1 items good bye.
