i'm looking for some good science fiction books to read, preferably not manga, i'm kind of sick of manga at the moment. just novels and stuff. I'm reading 1984 by George Orwell and Conquistadors by S.M. Stirling. Any other recommendations?

Brave New World is a pretty good book.

I found the story to be insightful even though the situation kind of disgusted me...

Also The Left Hand of Darkness, but some people find that book a little confusing.

Yeah... had to read that a couple years back for class. Thats one messed up world.

Why'd you have to name sci-fi? Haven't read much of that lately.

The Heritage of Shannara is an enjoyable series. Oh futuristic sci-fi. ._.

Or you could read my new PSO Fic. [/blatant advertising]

Ender kicks some kid in the groin and hospitalizes him. :wacko:

If you haven't read Ender's Game, go do that.

It depends what you're looking for. Do you want an ideas book to twist your brain into a big soft pretzel with huge salt crystals? A dramatic space opera? Hard sci-fi? Ray guns?

yes to all (except the really corny generic stuff... i hate generic sci-fi, needs something to make it original)

@tact: yeah i have read ender's game

Might not be Sci-Fi, but if you like 1984, try Animal Farm.

The Hitchhiker's Guide series and anything by Michael Crichton. Get on it.

Might not be manga, but if you like colors instead, try Balloon Farm.
Awesome.

What? No Dune?

It's one of the best sci-fi books I read so far. It's worth reading.
