As a sort of... fix, I suppose, for FSOD, get up off yer asses and buy yourself an Interact 16x memcard! I have one, and I love it. It's got over 1000 blocks of memory, and because it has the ability to save very quickly, the double save feature doesn't seem to bother it... well, yet anyways hehe.
The card itself is kind of weird though. Sometimes it gets a little warm while playing O_o. Don't worry though, I've played for well over 400 hours with all my chars combined and it hasn't melted or over heated yet, and with Farylla I've done like 7 hour marathons before ^_^.

Do people have problems with some kinds of memory card more than others. I saw there was a thread about Nyko cards having problems...
I have a Nintendo 251 card, and a Nintendo 59 card (the one that came with Animal Crossing). And I usually assume that 'official' memory cards have fewer problems.
Since I'm not close to running out of space yet, I'm probably not buying a new mem card soon.

I use 2 59s, why do people buy cheap memory cards that were not made from nintendo its self.

My friend has one of those. We played offline multi for a few hours. Not only does it NOT WORK in controller port b, it heats up like a freaking oven http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_mad.gif
I'll stick to my 251 =/

Memeory cards only really have an effect on if you corrupt or not AFTER FSOD. FSOD is a server and connection issue...so you'll still FSOD as much, it's just a matter of if you corrupt or not.

I have a friend who uses the Interact and he's definitely had his share of FSODs while using it. The true advantage of this card is to stick it in slot B and take 2 pictures a second (Yes, I know you can only save one screen capture at a time, but all the snapshot noises in the lobby = CONFUSED people http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif).

thats odd... my card always works just fine in slot b. it does heat up pretty good though. god damn, the other night i had a hell of a scare, i had quit and saved, and it said the message "the guild card file, system file, and character file are corrupt and must be deleted. Is this okay?" it freaked the hell out of me. i selected "no", and then it couldnt recognize that there was a card in the slot. I took the card out and put it back in and it went to the title screen. after this i loaded up my characters and they were all fine, exactly the same as they would have been had i been able to save normally.
I think from now on I'll put a fan up to my gamecube..

Aiee, anecdotal evidence makes me cringe. Meowzers, if you play mostly offline to power level, I don't think you represent a user who is primarily online, since online has lots of autosave points.

i've got my self a pelican 16x mem card that i bought from work (yes, i am lucky, i work at a video game store) and I have no problems with it. The thing with the Mad Catz.....they have a tendency to one day just wipe your memory card clean, plus they can short out memory ports. No Joke! in terms of FSOD....i almost got it once, it was really weird though.....It froze up like it normally would, sat there for 5 minutes, and it did nothing. I hit the reset button on my cube, and it saved to the memory card, then shutoff the cube. Maybe I was lucky, maybe it was just an error, but i might never know http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_smile.gif

Well I had to buy a Microsoft and a Sony brand http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
Hehe, ok, bad joke.
But you are right, for GC and PSO, the only card to use is the Memory Card 59.

Wang, since you're giving advice, let me give you some: GET RID OF THAT CARD! I've had interact mem cards on my Saturn before (yes, that ooooold Sega system, you can stop laughing now). Anyway, I had one for a few months with hundreds of hours of game data where I had beaten games, found all their secrets, etc only for me to start up one day & found everything ERASED! You heard me. I even bought another one & about a month later, the same thing. They overheat quicker because they save TOO quickly. To save so much data at such a rate is NOT a good thing & it burns it self out. I didn't know this until it was too late. If you can find a way to back up your characters, please do so. If not, get a different mem card (I use the 251 Nintendo ones) & start transferring items. You may not believe me but after all those experiences, I will NEVER trust Interact ever again (unless someone wanted to loan me a GS or something LOL)...

Think what you like, but I agree that InterAct 16x is awesome. It saves fast, but I for one consider that a good thing. It leaves less time for FSOD to happen at a possible corruption point, but its also just convinient. Its also got so much space, that I never worry about getting different memory cards. I don't care what bad experiences people have had with them on previous systems, I like it and I'm using it.

Well, considering I'm one of the older players here (both in playing PSO & in age), my opinion does carry some weight...especially when it's a proven fact. I sent out my message as a warning to others. Those who choose to ignore it, do so at their own risk, but, you have been warned. To those who heed what I say, I thank you for hearing me. I've always been glad when someone was able to warn me about such things in the past & gave me a hand up, so if I may be in a position to do the same, I shall. I will also agree with what was said earlier: FSODs have NOTHING...repeat...NOTHING to do with mem cards. It's server-system related, that's all. In other words, take up FSOD complaints with Sega (you know, like everyone else LOL). Well, that's all for now...complain or thank me at your will http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif
