Different maps...

http://www.pso-world.com/sections.php

look under the maps section for each of the areas...

The actual game map varies, but I think the maps on this iste has each of the variations.

I don't get it.. there's no key to the map. What do all the symbols mean?

The pillar icons are grey colored things that are shaped like the pillars are in the game.... the triangle numbers are warp points and warp 1 will warp you to the other warp 1. it is a guide to go by...

you could just use your own map under the item screen of the game and see what rooms you havent been in yet.

Always remember that for the caves the pillar is located within Caves 2 and for the Mines the pillar is located in Mines 2. Use the maps to find them or just keep hunting. Use you area map in your Items menu (very helpful).

They're not (the pillars) really hidden. Just completly explore Level 2 of forest, caves and mines (Always level 2) and you won't miss 'em.

You need to activate all 3 pillars in order to gain access to the Ruins after defeating Mines Boss; Vol Opt. If one of the pillar has'nt been activated. The door won't be open. Once a pillar had been activated, it will stay on until you beat Dark Falz, even if you make multiple or incomplete runs in different areas.
