Somehow I feel like I've ranted about this before, but I don't care. OK, so I went to the movies last night with a friend that doesn't shut up. This aggravated the people behind us, which I understand, but they decided to periodically kick MY seat. I never said a word either. The other friend that was with us kept telling him to shut up, and I didn't even do that. Then one of them (they were rednecks--sorry, but they were :disapprove:) put their feet on the back of the seat next to me, so they were right by my head... This in combination with cell phones going off, kids crying, and strange laughter at weird moments is why I hate going to movies on opening weekends. h8 h8 h8

This really annoys me too. I really hate theaters filled with retarded high schoolers, babies with terrible parents, and cell phone addicts.
They should have extremely accurate rifles mounted to the theater walls that shoots anyone using a cell phone to talk during the movie, or is being otherwise extremely disruptive, right in the head on the spot. Or maybe a ninja usher who beheads them at lightspeed.

"what's going on dad!?"
"dad what's going on!?"
The fun never ends.
Seriously, I have nothing against the mentally retarded, but don't take them to the movies if you don't have an effective way of shutting them up.

They should have signal disrupters in movie theaters.
Or specially designed EMPs for cell phones.
I wish I had that for people on cell phones while they're driving.

Technology's already there.
The only problem is, that people have to have a phone that supports it, but there is a system that institutions as such can install that will auto-silence phones within x distance of the transmitter. Unfortunately, I don't think many (if any) places are actually implementing it.
As for movie etiquette... It's suprisingly hard for people the three real rules of moviegoing: Sit down, shut the hell up, and don't bug other people (which encompasses turning your phone/devices to off or silent).

A lot of assholes people see them merely as suggestions rather than rules.
It's like they're special or something.

Never really had much issues with this.
I always try to sit in the very back or near the very back though.
Though this begs the question why the heck you went to the movies with Yappy-Friend knowing full well he was going to yap anyway...I mean, I certainly don't think it was right of you to get your seat kicked or anything...but still...

Funny enough, I prefer to not watch movies with ANYONE for my first time seeing them. It takes all the flavor from the movie when someone next to you doesn't understand what just happened; and then they ask YOU what happened, while you're caught in the moment and trying to keep up with the movie yourself.
You know whats really annoying though? People who are so fucking clueless that they have to ask "Why'd they do that"/"Why'd that happen" every time something fucking happens.
"Why'd that happen?"
"Because God told him to do it, something about a contract and a script."
"...did you see this movie already? I don't remember anything about that. When was that??"

Feet? Next to face?
Gross. That's one of my biggest pet peeves. Shoes are on the ground, people spit on the ground &a lot more disgusting things. :[
But there should be some kind of ettiquette. Also where was the usher the whole time this was going on?

I tend to wait for movies to come out on DVD, but when I absolutely can't wait that long, I try to go a couple weeks after it's been out.
The problem with this is that by the time the movie comes out on DVD one of my friends/the internet has already spoiled the thing for me, scene by scene.
EDIT: One of the theatres near me has lined their cinemas with Faraday caging, blocking cell phone signals. I always get a chuckle when people flip out after realizing they can't send their text messages.

One of the few good things about working in a theatre:
Kicking out assholes like that. Man, I miss that job. D:
Edit: Because I read the rest of the posts.
Or maybe a ninja usher who beheads them at lightspeed.
That would be me. Managers loved me.
I'm a good friend. ;_;

Good reason why whenever I go to the movies I go alone and I dont sit around people.

This is the nice thing about my theater, they ripped out every other row to install tables for people to eat food, so we don't have the people propping their feet up next to your head. I always found that disrespectful in the first place even if there isn't anyone there. I never have to worry about people talking or being on the Cell phone during my movies since I usually watch them alone.
Though at my theater you get to deal with the drunks and noisy eaters... I swear my GM turns the Volume up more than it needs to be turned up sometimes

I've seen a couple morons in theaters, but everyone did a pretty good job of policing the theater themselves, whether it was multiple people telling them to shut up or talk on their phone outside of the theater.
I have never expereinced something as rude as someone putting their feet up on your seat, though. That would be enough to set me off probably, especially since you weren't even the noise culprit.

I mainly hate when the people laugh way too much, or at parts that aren't funny.

I'd probably say the most disrespectful thing people can do during a movie is the do. I'm sure TheOneHero and my Manager could go into better detail on that... Its usually more lulzy when you catch them in the act, I caught I few when I worked at my other theater in projection.
The reclining chairs and retractable arm rests seem to help people with this act since its now comfortable for the said couple to cuddle and ignore the movie better

I don't understand why you'd spend $7 (varies) to 'do the do' in a public area when you could just 'do' at your own house. (Not talking about the lavatorial going-ons)
Also, when I went to see Traitor, there was a seat that was covered up. My little brother went to check it out and said that, on the seat, there was either peanut butter or shit. Needless to say, we sat on the opposite side of the theater.

I...I thought I got rid of those memories! D:
Happened at least once a week when I was there; usually on the final "kids" show of the night. Sometimes there would be couples that do it in a packed show in the middle of the theatre, customers would come and complain and we'd go in to make them stop.
One Lead Usher yelled at a couple once in that situation, told 'em to stop and they didn't. So he takes out his flashlight in the middle of the theatre and shines it on them while everyone yells at them to knock it off.
(I've uh, smacked the backs of chairs a couple times myself to stop the madness.) XD
Edit: raikomaru, at my theatre, that's pretty much the reason why we covered the seats. Ushers are there to maintain cleanliness in the day, while a cleaning crew takes care of things at the end of the night.
There's some things we refuse to clean, like crap or fluids of the "do".

lolololololol, it's pretty odd that people think that would be so hilarious to do in a public place (the doo-doo) ^^; kinda extremely immature.....

I usually don't go to the cinemas.
1) I don't have friends to go with. And I'm not going with my parents.
2) I'm not really into movies.
If anything, I watch movies at home. It's much more comfortable. And I can talk (to myself). And laugh at weird moments. So it's a win-win.

If there is a new movie coming out that I want to see, then I usually go the first viewing the day after the premiere, that way there aren't really many people except for old people.

Yeah, that is honestly the best time to go, since you pay a cheaper ticket price, usually have the theater to yourself, maybe a few others. And you don't have to wait in an incredibly long line to get your ticket while missing the best part of the movie The Trailers. You also don't have to play Musical chairs since Tom, Dick, and Harriet came to the movie together but don't want to sit next to each other so they can have their own armrests, and then through out the movie they are talking to each other across the theater and giggling at all the wrong moments because a funny scene that was there 5 minutes ago finally makes sense to their feeble minds.
I was disappointed in people when they didn't get half the references in Tropic Thunder... Seriously...

It's not so much the noise for me as wondering "Why are you spending $40 on snacks?" I can't fathom buying snacks at movie-theater prices for myself, much less for a whole family. I would take my friends out to eat at a decent restaurant if I was going to spend so much money.
As for movie experiences, I made the mistake of going to see a movie with a friend and a friend of his. Now I've never been fond of said friend of friend because he's loud and talkative. Can you guess what he did at the movie?
He laughed at everything. When the actors smiled, he laughed. When someone died, he laughed. He'd yell at the actors, too. Usually some asinine comment involving sex. So every time that the two main characters made eye contact with each other, he was there to encourage them to "get it on," etc.
Man, I was ready to punch a baby by the time the movie was over, and I'm never going to see a movie with this guy in tow again.
That aside, I usually have a pretty good movie-going experience.

I actually don't mind a bit of talking. As long as they're not talking at a volume where I can't hear the movie, I'm fine with it. You want to prop up your feet? By all means do it. As log your shoe doesn't have a nice glop of dog shit on the bottom of it, I'm fine.

Oh, I do. I also know that there's always somebody playing the devil's advocate in a thread, so I guess I'll have to take the role for today.
I am serious, though - let's try and get beyond our clear and obvious social difficulties and accept the fact that there are other people in the world. Sometimes they will do things that we don't care for when we are around, but y'know what? Life is way better if you don't worry about these kind of things.
And to be fair, this is just a general comment I think applies to all of Dead Horse Society.
While there are some legitimate complaints here - Loud friends, people doing the nasty (or leaving the nasty behind) in theaters, etc, etc - a good number seem to be people complaining, "Gosh darnit, people are so incredibly stupid because they don't act how I want them to and this clearly has nothing to do with the fact that I can't deal with the real world and real people not being exactly the way I want them to be or act."
It's probably just cause I'm a crochety old man, but sometimes rants comments really only need one response - "Grow up already."

Protip, go a week later or more. Never opening weekend 7:30 8:00 onward shows.
Have to see it that opening day? Then you have to deal with all the rest of the people on the planet. They're everywhere yo.
If your friend needs to go next time forgetting what transpired previously, give em a reminder of what happened last time and the seeing it first/newest isn't a big deal. Movies these days don't have elaborate spoilers with that ol Jon Becker rant about the code of conduct that nobody did this or that before in theaters.
Sounds like a really bad experience D: fortunately I never had such a problem with people like that but I could very well understand what assholes they were.
Should've stood up and ask them nicely to stop what they were doing. If that doesn't solve the problem, you have every right to ask the manager and kick their asses out.

i never go to the movie theater b/c many ppl are annoying idiots but also:
- i live in the USA and last time i checked, they dont show many japanese movies at the theater. and if they did, it would be dubbed which completely ruins it. i generally dislike american movies -_-
- it costs $10+ for one ticket here! seriously wtf. you could buy a dvd for that price.
- they show ads before the movie starts. and im not talking about movie trailers. i mean commercials like they show on normal television. there is no way i will pay 10 dollars to be shown ads. if you wanna keep the ads, the movie better be free.
- time wasted traveling, and waiting for the movie to start.
- no controls. cant pause, rewind, etc. if i have to go to the bathroom during it, im fucked.
- food/drink prices are fucking insane. $5 for a soda that costs literally 30 cents to make. (25 cents for the cup and 5 cents for the soda) i dont drink soda but just using it as an example.
- the MPAA is on my boycott list so im unable to give them any money.
ive been to the theater once in the last 8 years or something. i do my best to avoid it. ive even turned down free tickets a few times. its just not worth it.
if i wanna watch a movie or tv show, i can simply download a commercial free 1080p computer video file off the internet. movie theaters, cable tv and blu ray are outdated, horrible ways to view media.

The only problem I have with theaters are the prices. Seriously $6.50 per ticket and then another 10 for 1 medium popcorn and one medium soda. But since I was with mah girl...money semi-well spent.
