You could get colours very similar to those in photoshop, it just requires alot alternating between brush opacity levels. But doing it like that will give you a more natural look, like in those pics.

sometimes painter can be such a big headache, crashing while saving and thereby deleting files. and all those palettes. but it's a damn good painting program. those images though looks like photoshop.

Looks more like painter to me, but then, I don't have the latest version of Photoshop, so I can't tell what new stuff PSwhatever can do.

Plus, the fact that painter tutorials exists help me in my guessing. ^_^
