Finally plunked money into the nex gen(now "now gen"?). Got PSU for the 360. I used to play a lot online back in the DC days(ver 1), but now I play mostly ver 2 offline , of course, every couple of months. Anyway, I hope to be online soon. Is cheating still a big problem online? I remember being pk'ed to steal a stupid Victor Axe from me. Of course at that moment that was my best weapon lol.

Haven't posted in a long while. Last time I did i was recovering from minor surgery and had a lot of time to play PSO. Anyway I hope the online community is still sthriving. Hope to see you guys soon.

PS
Any tips to make my sign up for online PSU smooth would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You picked a hell of a time to start. All sorts of boosts and an active GBR. Have fun. :p

Cheating is not an issue. There's a glitch that allows a particular weapon type to be stronger than it should be, but its a pretty small problem. Not nearly as powerful as 127% J-Swords. You really only see the scrubs using it.

Hey and Welcome to PSU! There are some similarities in PSO as there is to PSU. But the core gameplay is decently different, and I'm sure you'll be able to come to like it more.

Anyways, there is a lot to do, and the game is going through an event right now. So you picked a hell of a time to join. ^^; Oh and to sign up, all you need to do is use a debit card or credit card and just buy it over Xbox LIVE. It's pretty easy to do. Oh and there isn't any cheating online. The most you have to worry about is trade scamming, but It will seem kinda obvious when someone is trying to scam you.

If you need someone to show you around, or just to play with, msg my gamertag:

Also if you think that you will be playing for a while, you will want to download the expansion "ambition of illuminus" from xbox live.

Thx for the responses, I appreciate it. PSU is definetely different. It'll take some practice to get used to it, specially after so many yrs and hrs of playing PSO.

Is it true that one only needs silver membership to play PSU online?

As far as my gamertag goes , my original tag for PSO(Orosan) is taken on xbox live. If they allow a different tag on PSU I'll use the same if available. If not I'll keep you guys posted.

PS:
I see that my original title was edited. What I meant with the original title was : Here I go again, into the world of Phantasy Star. I cut it short to make it sound cool, I guess it didin't work :) .

Sorry for all the questions, but should I get the expansion pack right away; or play online first, accomplish a few things and then get the AOI?

I mean if you think that you'll be playing for a while you'll need it, so you should get it asap, it's probably going to be hard trying to get experience without the expansion I don't think you can play psu on xbox live silver, I tried and it just gets stuck on a loading screen.

YES!! Two years into PSU's life the expansion is a must. With the current events (and hotspots in game) you'll need it. I am also a PSO DC player, PKers are a thing of the past :) You no longer drop your meseta and equiped item upon death, so no worries there. The main thing to watch out for is scams. Since you are new I wouldnt really be concerned with "phishing" were people try to get information from you to account recover your 360 to steal items. More so watch out for trade window scams. I wont go indepth here but if you message me on XBL (gt: N2TrAnC3) I can help fill you in. If you want to power level a bit a few of my friends started new characters yesterday so I have been playing low level stuff. Let me know.

Most importantly, Welcome to PSU.

PSU is similar to -- but NOT -- PSO. You'll notice ALOT of upgrades to PSO, but in your time playing (if you don't decide to be blind to them) you'll start to find ALOT of downgrades as well.

To answer your questions :

- No, cheating isnt a problem in this game, at least not one everyone can point out as easily as in PSO. Most of the people who cheat are smart enough not to let anyone know, so i doubt you'll experience many hacking problems.

- About the community, yes it is thriving, and no it isnt. Since you're on 360, i doubt you'll have complaints about the community, but the PS2/PC population is hanging on by mere threads at this point in my opinion. 25% of the population online is most likely deactivated due to quitting, 50% of them are online but AFK half the time, and about 23% of them are spamming hotspots, ALL the time. The final 2% are likely to be the ones you'll find helping you out as a newbie. The only issue with that is, most of the time they're capped, and you wont have much fun.

to make your PSO --> PSU transition smooth, ill just let you in on a few things most people have trouble with.

- MAGs are gone. There is no equivilent for MAGs on PSU, and there are no Materials to raise stats on your own. The customization given by MAGs from PSO have been replaced by a wide array of different classes to choose from, mixed in with the race and sex of your character.

That said, there is no place for MAGs to fit in PSU right now. They may add them in the future, but they arent needed anyway.

- Get the expansion. This game is close to useless without the expansion. You will have close to ZERO fun without the expansion. GET THE EXPANSION!

(not really. But almost 80% of the content of this game resides in the expansion. In fact, its almost UNFAIR to ship this game online without AoTI released in the first place.)

- Yes, the music in this game sucks. Really bad. Sorry about that. No, the music does not transition between calm and battle. Sorry about that too. If theres one thing about PSO--> PSU even I'M having trouble bypassing, its the music.

- If you're a Hunter or a Ranger i doubt you'll dislike any changes they made to the gameplay, but Forces are a good bit different in this game. In fact, they're almost completely different from PSO. I personally think they're 100% better than their PSO counterpart, but some people disagree.

-Speaking changes in gameplay, all magic in this game requires a technic weapon to use. (No casting resta with a saber in your hand, or blasting away weaponless.) You must have a wand, rod, or Madoog to cast magic in PSU, which means only wartechers, Acrotechers, Forces, Fortetechers and Masterforces can cast magic.

This is what makes most newbies cry the hardest, but dont cry. You can hold 20 Mono,Di, and Trimates now. Most of the time you wont notice anyway. My fortetecher rarely relies on Resta anyway, Mates are 10x quicker.

- Elements play a HUGE factor in this game, get to learning them!

Thats about it. Have fun!

Like everyone else said:

Cheating isn't a problem on the 360.
You don't need Xbox Live Gold. I've been playing with a free Silver account since forever.
You do need to spend the $10 (800 MS points) to get the expansion.
Copying PSU to the hard drive does make things a lot smoother.
Try to get on Universe 1, or if that's full Universe 2 or 3 if you want to play with other people and not just solo.
You have four character slots. There are four races :)
CASTs (androids) are probably the easiest race to play. If you like playing a force, go Newman. Those two are really all you need, at least in the beginning.
Head to the casino early to get your coins. Either beat the missions there, or ask someone to take you there.
Most people play the White Beast mission in the expansion (on Neudaiz at Pavilion of Air: Top), though many people consider it to be overplayed and boring.
Open a shop as soon as you can (buy it from the left-most guy in the shop on the second floor of the Guardians Colony) to sell the excess items you have. Also, never buy from the NPCs, always buy from players. The 360 has a pretty decent player economy. As a new player, you can probably find a lot of lower-level stuff very cheap.
Elemental percents on armor and melee weapons are probably the most important stat, Early on, it's pretty easy to find 40%-50% weapons and armor in shops. Buy it and use it. 50% is as high as anything goes, and those items are very rare.

I didn't get to play on the DC, but I played my GC version constantly and PSU is definetly much more fun. I just started out a few days ago, so if ya want someone to level up with and such my GT is Kamakaze Taco.

OK guys, I'm trying to finish the story mode first, then purchase a guardians licence, download AOTI and start the online mode, hopefully by this weekend. My xbox gamertag is DrOrosan. Will also add in my list the people that offer their gamertags on this thread. Thx to all of you.
