Hi, I'm new to the forums. I don't own PSU, but in about 12 days I'll have an Xbox and the game. So, I have a few questions.

What kind of things should I be careful of while playing online? (PvP areas, strong monsters, notorious players, etc)

Is there a class system? Or is like PSO where you choose a class and a race?

I keep hearing about these pet type things called PAs or something. Are they PSU's version of MAGs?

This is something I look for in any MMO I play--Is there a sort of "Home" or "Base" area that you can have to yourself where you can invite friends, or store items, etc?

What's this I hear about "strafing"? Do you get to ride some kind of awesome airboard thing I like I saw the main character of the story mode?

What kind of weapons does each class/race/whatever wield?

Also, I remember with PSO you would have to get a Hunter's License or something like that to play online. I'm unfamiliar with PSU and Xbox 360, so what exactly do I need to start playing online?

I know I could just go google or something to figure out all of these questions, but a part of me is also hoping I'll meet someone who would be able to show me the ropes when I start. Any help is appreciated!

Oh, and I didn't see an introduction area, so if any of you are curious; My name is Annie, I'm 18 and live out in the middle of nowhere (North Dakota DX). I like anime, manga, video games, drawing, and writing. Hm.. I think that's about it >_>

;.; omg you made me really happy Zero. X3 I see that you're a .hack fan. I haven't played the G.U. series yet myself, but I've been dying to. Could you give me a little more info on the classes? What is it that makes them different? Stats? Weapons? Outfits?

Also, can you customize you room and such? And can you invite people inside? Are there any ways to make it bigger/change it, etc?

:3 by the way, what's your name if you don't mind me asking. And do you have MSNM or WLM?

Hi, I'm new to the forums. I don't own PSU, but in about 12 days I'll have an Xbox and the game. So, I have a few questions.

Welcome to PSU then

What kind of things should I be careful of while playing online? (PvP areas, strong monsters, notorious players, etc)

-PSU doesn't have PvP.
-Be careful of monsters with Megid (a dark projectile attack), it has a chance to instantly kill you if it hits. Also, watch for buffed monsters (signified by extra icons in their status window.) Red sword means Attack buffed (do more with physical attacks), Blue Shield means Defense buffed (will take reduced damage from certain types of attack), Boots (increased accuracy and evade) and cane (increased 'tech' damage, I think).
-Be mindful of scammers. It's rare, but like any game it does happen.

Is there a class system? Or is like PSO where you choose a class and a race?

Race is not linked to class now. A Newman can do all the same jobs as a Beast, or a Human, or a Cast. Also, you can change jobs whenever you want to, unlike PSO.

I keep hearing about these pet type things called PAs or something. Are they PSU's version of MAGs?

PA's (Photon Arts) are skills your character uses. You may be thinking of TCSMs/TECH-Mags and RCSMs/Range-Mags. These look like PSO Mags (infact, some like Pushan and Sato are in PSU), but function differently. TCSMs are essentially treated as a left-handed tech weapon, which you bind two techs to. They are the weakest kind of Teching weapon, but have high PP (the stat you decrease when you cast, treat as ammunition, i guess) and also the fastest casting speed. RCSM are autonomous left-handed MAG's that shoot at nearby enemies, able to inflict status ailments.

Finally there's PM's (Partner Machinery), which is what you're probably thinking of. These are robots in your room that you can store items in. You can also feed them (kinda like MAGs from PSO), and make them evolve. At a certain evolution stage, they can accompany you in battle as an NPC. You also use PM's to synthesize items you may find the recipe boards for.

This is something I look for in any MMO I play--Is there a sort of "Home" or "Base" area that you can have to yourself where you can invite friends, or store items, etc?

Yes, you have your own room (initially on the Colony, you can move by aquiring transfer tickets.) This houses your PM (explained earlier), your common box (a utility to transfer items between the characters on your account) and space for decorations. You can buy decos from the Casino, or from the Variety shop on Guardians Colony floor 2. Finally, you can open a shop (purchase the 'Open Shop' ticket from the aforementioned Variety Shop).

What's this I hear about "strafing"? Do you get to ride some kind of awesome airboard thing I like I saw the main character of the story mode?

Strafing is just side-stepping around, allowing you to quickly dodge. There are currently no ways to obtain an Airboard, but the Japanese server had an event where you can race them. We may see this soon on the regional servers.

What kind of weapons does each class/race/whatever wield?

I'd suggest you look at the Class guides either here or on psupedia.info. In a nutshell though, you have:
3 Basic jobs:
- Hunter (Low rank melee weapons)
- Ranger (Low rank guns)
- Force (Low rank Tech weapons)
9 Advanced Classes:
- Fortefighter (High rank melee weapons, large variety)
- Fortegunner (High rank guns, large variety)
- Fortetecher (High rank tech weapons, good at support techs and attack techs)
- Fighgunner (Fighter who uses some guns as sidearms)
- Wartecher (Hybrid of melee and tech combat, most similar to HUnewearl from PSO, or melee FOmarl)
- Guntecher (Hybrid of gunner and techer, focusing more on guns)
- Acrotecher (Support specialist, decent attack techs, can also melee/gun a little, fights/techs with increased speed)
- Acrofighter (Specializes in one-handed melee weapons/ranged weapons, has increased attack speed)
- Protranser (Uses a variety of weapons, but specializes in trap usage)
3 Master Classes:
- Fighmaster (Uses a very restrictive amount of melee weapons, increased speed/higher level PAs)
- Gunmaster (Uses a very restrictive amount of guns, increased speed/higher level PA's)
- Masterforce (Uses a very restrictive amount of tech weapons, increased teching speed, specializes only in attack techs)

Also, I remember with PSO you would have to get a Hunter's License or something like that to play online. I'm unfamiliar with PSU and Xbox 360, so what exactly do I need to start playing online?

It still uses a monthly fee, but unfortunately I play on PC/PS2, so I can't help you with specifics.

There's actually an introduction area a little down the main forum, called 'The Lounge'. Welcome to PSU, hope you enjoy the game!

Are there any mounts?

And does armor and other equipment show up on the character?

Pardon the double post, but I have a few other questions...

Are there any mounts?

And does armor and other equipment show up on the character?

No mounts are available.

Equipment (weapons) show on characters, armour is represented by coloured lines on your character (as armour is integrated into clothing in PSU). Your appearance is determined by your clothes (which do not influence stats, allowing you to dress how you want). For example:
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b292/urikobb3/TeikaReturnToGurhal.jpg
On that picture, the white markings on the 'samurai' top are showing that I'm wearing Light-element armour (Pink-Red is Fire, Blue is Ice, Yellow is Lightning, Orange is Ground, White is Light and Purple is Dark). The actual clothes themselves are purely for show (and yes, that top is clothing, not armour). So, you don't actually see armour visibly on your character, but instead use clothing to determine your looks.

The only other visual sign of armour is when you block, a pattern will appear in front of you, which is determined by what armour you're using.

Forget about all those MMO's you've played. PSU is something totally different. No point and click, no big maps where you need to walk around in for hours, no mobs walking around randomly, no big frustrating skill trees, no situations that you get scolded at when you don't do your job (ok, maybe there might a few of those xD). Just relax and play, you can't do anything wrong here.
In a PvP MMO, right, if you mess up your skill tree, you're as good as out of the game. Here you can have fun even with weaker Photon Arts (heck, maybe even more). Just don't compare yourself with other people. There's really no reason for you to do that.

It's hard to describe PSU if you haven't played PSO. It's a room based game, so it's not a MMORPG in any way.
PSU in one sentence? An unique online RPG. ;-)

Just join up and play. :D

I've played PSO before... so is it exactly like that? You warp to a random map? Do you ever see random characters running around doing a quest? And please tell me there are more environments to explore than PSO ._.;

It's different to PSO, so even if you've played that, don't think you'll be the same in PSU. While there are some similarities, a lot of things are different.

There's quite a few different zones to explore, although some areas have multiple missions (for example, Raffon Meadow has Mad Creatures, Plains Overlord, The Mad Beasts and part of Duel in the Ruins, though these missions are undertaken from different lobbies- usually interconnected ones.)

Some similarities? xD
It's true that a lot of things are different, but the base elements of lots of PSO's features are still the same for the most part. You won't be completely lost the first time playing. You'll have plenty of time to learn all the new features while you smack things up. To name a few old features:
- different servers
- room based
- monster spawn patterns (each spawn has its own room)
- map layout
- action palette
- combo system
- equipment
- lobbies
- item drop based on difficulty and monster

Though of course, a lot of the above have a twist on them. For example the lobbies now act as the shops and the quest counter. But all those differences are because things are added and changed, but the idea is the same. I doubt any of us who played a lot of PSO had trouble fighting the first time in PSU. Remember how you fought the first time in PSO? For me it was:
- saber attack (no combo)
- getting smacked in the face by booma
- monomate
- saber attack
- getting smacked in the face by booma
- repeat

At least I knew that you could combo when first playing PSU

I've to admit that I got lost in Clyez the first time playing. Was looking for a counter so I could make a room and free roam an area. ^^; After that, it's still PSO...with a lot of unnecessary features.

As for your questions Virus. There's usually no NPCs running around the map. Even less than PSO. NPCs that may appear usually join up with your party. There may seem a lot of areas in PSU, but it isn't really...that great. There are tons of missions. Each mission may not have a totally unique area, but the monster spawn is unique.

PSU is quite different from PSO in some things.
First there are Universes, they're kinda similiar to PSO ships, but each universe allows up to...I think 1000 players. You can change to different universes using an orange cube on the lobbys.
There are 4 main lobbys, Guardians Colony (Clyez City), Parum (Holtes City), Neudaiz (Ohtoku City) and Moatoob (Dagora City).
Each one of those is somewhat like Pioneer 2, where ou can go to the different shops, start missions, and such. But unlike PSO where only your party could be in Pioneer 2, everyone can hang around in those lobbys, chatting with other players (like PSO lobbys).

On each of the lobbys there are mission counters, where you can start different missions or join existing parties. After you complete a mission, it'll end in a small lobby with an NPC which sells mostly recovery items and traps. In that small lobby you can start other missions that end in other different lobbys, and so on ^^.
The missions on PSU allow up to 6 players (2 more compared to PSO).

Thanks everyone again for the help.

Actually, what I meant was: when you're running around doing a quest or whatever, is there a possibility of running into another player? Not an NPC, an actual player.
