I'm an avid onlooker at this site, and this is my first real post. I was curious to what everyone would think to this picture I drew (colored it in adobe photoshop). It's not half as good as some of the pictures on this site.

Very nice pic, i like the pose you got the hunewearl in. The only thing i can see wrong about it is the colours are kinda running into each other on the left leg and the shorts, maybe an extrablack line would sort out that out. Other wise, nice pic, good shading too.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure why the color bled. I had it blocked, but I think the colors on the shaded part of the shorts and the design on the leg thing were the same color's either way http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/anime2.gif

Very nice pic! But the background kinda clashes, and there's something disturbing about her face...can't quite pin it...

The nose huh? That's a good point, I didn't even notice that until now. Great eye's on that one http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif.

Thanks http://www.pso-world.com/psoworld/images/phpbb/icons/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif I think I'll do some tweaking to the picture and see if I can pin point what is wrong, I think it's a little bit of the nose and the mouth is a little low.

basically, your proportions are off. the mouth and bose both start too low.
the eyeballs should be at the halfway point down the head. divide the head into thirds. the bottom of the nose should be at the 2/3 point. or, when the lower half is divided into three parts, the nose should be at the 1/3 point and the lower lip at the 2/3 point. ears then start at the 1/2 point of the head along the same line as the eyeball. the width of the lips should also be ideally equals the width of the eyes, the distance between the eyes is equal to one eye's width. but then in anime it doesn't work, since everything is idealized.
take a look at http://drawsketch.about.com/library/weekly/aa121202a.htm
that's the ideal proportion for any human face. might help as a reference.
your upper arm is also a little long in relation to the lower arm and the body. she's bottom heavy.
check the length of the head in proportion to the body especially the torso for this picture. the usual rule of thumb for the ratio of head:body for a normal human is 1:7 while 1:8 is for idealized humans/superheros etc. lentgh from neck to hip should be about 3 heads.
use the vitruvian man as a guide

i find that when people start drawing by drawing anime, all their proportions are skewed since anime is idealized and proportions are taken to extremes and sometimes completely ignored. so trying to nail down a life drawing becomes hard and things starts looking odd but then you don't exactly know why.
but hey your drawing is a good drawing and everyone struggles with proportions. so practice and keep up the good work! your lighting source is not consistent but that's a small matter. it's really good, keep making more.
did i lose someone by getting too technical? probably...
