View Full Version : Is PSU Dead?

BattleAngelAlita
Feb 23, 2009, 11:24 PM
Just a thought. I played PSU ever since day 1 of it coming out. Left it for a while due to money issues and whatnot and decided to come back, but I rarely see a soul on. Just wanted to know if anyone still plays? or should I move on to something else?:-?
Seriously I love Phantasy Star but kinda isn't fun without people on.

Give me a shout back I am kinda curious on how many people still play or whats the maximum number of people you have seen in a lobby/area as of today going forward.

Mind you I started over from scratch (Sadly deleted by Sega T_T)
Looking for people to have fun with online (I have PC version)

Oh how I miss the days of Bruce Runs :D Goodtimes, Goodtimes. :D

Caelum, event center next to the Club on Cylez City Shopping Mall B. Nearly everyone is there during the events right now.

Yes I know event but how many people..mind you I am thinking of playing (sadly over again) with people that have FUN not spam running.

Yes the event is out that always brings people out of the wood work to play but how many Regulars that don't just jump on the spam wagon..running the same event over and over again>.> (And yes I know that is what PSU is about getting that special drop /weapon)

Hence # of people you saw (maximum) playing. Really need to know this.

I come from the lost land of heavily starred universe 2 not just one star. so how many:-? and was it on PC? or Xbox these players are on? becasue I could of swore i said PC version I have( there is a difference)

Trying not to be a pill about this, but don't want to waste my time if the servers are indeed dead for PC.

So Ashley says that 2 Stars is the Maximum star number that is seen on the PC servers. Thank you for your post reply.

Anyone else seen more than 2 starred server at one time in the month of February 2009?

Honestly, the population is big enough to find parties and have a good time. I know I don't have any trouble doing so. It's small, but of good quality.

Feb 24, 2009, 12:06 AM
uh, after february ive seen 3 stars, and because i was so shocked, i took a screenshot, ill post it later. im on the pc/ps2 server, and there are plenty of people running the event, and not running the event (me for one) ive actually been off and on the event, but nowhere near spamming. i did enough to get the electroheart and then enough to run the bonus for a bit. i dont think you should move on just yet, the pc/ps2 got some time left. uni 2 is the most crowded. NOW if you compare the pc/ps2 with the 360 side, yes we are dead. thats a different story tho.

BattleAngelAlita
Feb 24, 2009, 12:28 AM
3 stars is what I wanted to hear, thank you for that.

Yes, I do know there are people out there but I want active people not just fly bye people who drop in for an event then leave until the next one comes. Which I know at least 4 people are active hence the reply to the post. ^^

And no, not even comparing to Xbox Version vs. Pc version. Just want to know there are active players in PSU PC.

And yes, I am not on the event either(kinda hard anyways when starting anew).

Yes events are good places to find groups but kinda hard when you want to do runs "other" than the carnival ones>.> I mean try talking to your lvl 100+ buddies out of doing a carnival run and switch to a lower alternate character to another run and see how it goes...I bet 9/10 they will stick to the carnival and like so events.

Volcompat321
Feb 24, 2009, 12:38 AM
not the people i party with lol. and i know there are at least 25 active people. cause i am part leader in a clan, with 3 others, and we have about 25 active members, NOT including the 4 leads :D

and as for the event being the cause of so many people, its just more people of the event, all at one place so it looks like more. but if you go to white beast after the event, or maybe paracabana coast youll se a bunch of people. :D

oh and the 3 star things, its not a steady 3 stars...it was because of the event, but its most of the time depending on what time zone your in, its most always 2 stars.

We've had 2 1/2 to three full stars during the event this month.

Contrary to what the pessimists out there will say (most of whom don't play anymore), 500-600 people on at any one time is far from "dead". All you really need are five other people maximum to have fun with a full party, and right now it's easy to find people to play with in the event area.

PC/PS2 has hardly the population of 360, but neither server is dead when you consider how big a maximum party is. On top of that, there are lots of great community groups, guilds, vent servers, etc, where you can find dedicated groups of cool people to run with. :)

When I first joined up on the online scene for the PC/PS2 version, I never saw anyone around, and this was three weeks ago. Now I see people in almost all the lobbies on Caelum regardless of what time it is.

Well Alita, if you see me wandering around in the event area (or just anywhere on the server, in fact) then feel free to ask me for help. I am kind of doing event runs to get my alts a bit higher in levels and whatnot, but I'm at the point that I'm pretty content with how they are (the only thing missing is my PT not having any S-rank armor yet, but that'll be a level or three yet).

Anyway, my characters are Calsetes (my main), Nuku Nuku (the one with the low account number, since there's apparently bizarro-Nuku running around), Eimi, and Narau. If you want to do non-event missions, that's cool. I'm always looking for a change of scenery and maybe marking lobbies I haven't hit before.

Xbox 360 servers have a constantly full Uni 1, and more often than not, a full Uni 2.
Constantly full uni 1 on 360? You exaggerate. I work odd hours and yesterday morning at between 7-8 am uni 1 was at 3 stars.

NiceOnes
Feb 25, 2009, 05:34 PM
Agreed... XBOX360 in the early morning is usually 3 stars. A typical afternoon/evening is UNI 1 full and UNI 2 2-3 stars. Typically there are other Uni's close to or at 1 star other than uni 2 aswell!

I agree. I do think it's hard to just walk into a lobby you feel like going to that day and randomly finding a party of people who are there as well and willing to let you play with them. PSU isn't like that anymore, sadly, and I know because I've been playing US server since day 2. That being the case, make more friends with the people who are at the events and plan to still play PSU when the events are over.

I played with you earlier today, Alita, I was on my alt "FantasmSoldier Yuko", saw a spot at Charged Puzzle that she could join, and entered your party, but you didn't talk hardly at all while I was there, even though I was the 1st person to join your party and when the party filled up as well. :| I find that to be a little offensive, to be honest. You should chat a bit and find people who will run with you to other, less spammy places if you ask them to. You should have asked me, I still love playing V.1 missions, more so than V. 2 stuffs. I'll skip spamming event stuff just to do some Sleeping Warriors, Plains Overlord, Forested Island, etc., cuz they're fun. I like touring the worlds and doing several different missions in a row, too.

Lmao well like i said Ms. FantasmSolider Yuko I want fun players and frankly my dear if i remember correctly some frenchman in the party said to stop the cheat...thus i dis associated myself with you. and yes it was on the Digital Queen run.. I don't like the carnival but frankly its were everyone is at. And for the record i talked through the run, maybe not to you personally, and I was busy on Yahoo Im at the time as well, trying to multitask and not hurt others by sitting on my bum is what i was trying to accomplish. Sorry if you felt it personally though anyone who says stop the cheat and the one doing it says i did stop it, in my mind is not someone that i really want to be linked to so sorry.

allso on a side note, this aint a game for us EU ppl. a half to 1 full star at daytimes and max 1 1/2 star at evning, regardless of an event or not does not justify 10 euro a month.

this is it in a nutshell.
jp is dead because of this, and pending they announce it for NA in 6-8 months, it will be the final nail in the coffin for our servers.

what a great thing to look forward to. it was enough for me to bail early.

Feb 26, 2009, 02:28 PM
Is this whole pay thing really a big deal? Am I missing something here?

Calsetes
Feb 26, 2009, 02:43 PM
(All prices are in USD, since this is where I live and I'm not going to bother calculating into euros depending on the strength of the yen solve for X.)

Some people make it a big deal because they feel they should get more for their $10 a month. The way I see it, I'd normally pay $15 a month for a "regular" MMO, so I can free myself up $5 more for bonus tickets, attribute increasers, whatever. Until we actually see how it pans out, payment-wise and whatnot, I think it's a little too early to tell how people are going to take it. After all, if you look at something like FFXI, you pay $12 or $13 a month for one character slot, and an extra $1 per month for every additional character. Thus, if you boost it to $15 a month, you're getting 3 or 4 characters total, whereas in a lot of other MMOs that cost the same, you're more open to 5 or 6 characters (or in the case of EQ2, 7 characters per account before getting into the whole "station players" stuff). FFXI isn't really suffering - the population has dwindled a bit, but that's to be expected with any MMO that lasts a while.

Anyway, that's just my two cents on it.

Edit: Just editing so that it doesn't get bumped up, since it's moved so far down now. I think me saying "regular" like that means this isn't a regular mmo, it's more of a casual one, which is what I like.

Zyrusticae
Feb 26, 2009, 03:41 PM
I think the Cash Shop is a terrible idea for a pay-to-play MMO, but I also think some folks are just plain overreacting to it.

I mean, geeze. The game has few enough players as it is, and you're going to quit pre-emptively over some pay-for-feature you hardly know the details of? That just seems... a little finnicky, to say the least. Sigh. And I just had to jump on at the tail-end of the game's life cycle...

Calsetes
Feb 26, 2009, 03:50 PM
To be honest, it's something of a good thing you jumped in later on rather than earlier in this game's life. If you play excessively (like 5+ hours a day 5 or more days a week) you'd probably be pretty disappointed back at launch - the only missions available were "Fight for Food C-A", the one mission on Parum that takes you to Raffon Field Base, Plains Overlord C-A, and Sleeping Warriors C-a, a max level of... 40, was it? Oh, ad only Hunter, Ranger, Force, and weapons up to 5 stars (assuming I remember right, that was all they had at the start).

Anyway, I agree with you in that I think people should take a "wait-and-see" approach to the cash shop, as it'd probably change a bit from the JP servers to the other servers.

No, but I wish these kind of threads would die...

BattleAngelAlita
Feb 26, 2009, 06:24 PM
Meh I have played MMO with and without Cash Shops and My "Opinion" is that it wont really change much.

For example: There maybe a person willing to buy stuff and sell it in game for game money value or trade for items. Thus You wont really have to pay for the items you want but might have to gather up in game money to get them.

But then again (Me not knowing the Cash shop and how it will work in NA) they could do it like casino items were it to the player who gets it only...then I can see some players being disappointed in not being able to obtain something that they want without paying for it ^^;

Either way I find it doesn't effect me...only the way people act in a game does.

lolz and i wont go to 360's PSU mainly because I don't want to shell out the money for an Xbox (wouldn't play it much) and #2 a double fee, Xbox Live and PSU....is like paying double for something I can pay for 1 time..to me is silly.

Kinako78 No, but I wish these kind of threads would die...

Lolz to me After I got some response and a few Great Players...not just Good but Great ones:-D..It did, but it seems I have struck a chord...and further more Kinako you don't have to read any forum page, or post if you dont want 2^^

You know how it has two years of life? By giving you the minimal amounts of updates possible in the longest periods of time, not to mention MAG+++++++ and Lightning Carnival++ lol i say f*** that lol. Also we do know what the cash shops do and i just don't see the point on wasting more money then we already are on the game, and yeah i don't like it i don't use it(and by it i mean the PSU game overall)which is why PSU is a ghost town, atleast the ps2/pc side.

alright, ive been hearing great things about the 360 side..well i gave it a try, and i been playing the pc/ps2 side 2 YEARS....so im not a "noob" to psu...and thats all i was being called on the 360 side.. i asked someone on the 360 to give me a lift to the WB area, and i got called a noob. i joined a party at level 1 cause i dont think any level 1 can solo WB...anyway, joined.....got called a noob. the 360 side for the most part is just a bunch of stuck up jerks. i will stay on the pc/ps2 side for its life. i love the game and i have no intentions of quitting anytime! when the game dies, my psu "carreer" dies. im at the point in the game where i dont need a party. i swear ill be the last one on the pc/ps2 side. and i will stay on as long as they let me keep paying. simple as that. the 360 can go suck my **** ********* *** * * * * ****** i hate the community on that side so much. and for those nice people on the 360 side, im sorry you have to deal with the real "noobs" of the game. it really pisses me off how they reacted. and it should piss you off too, since you play with them.

I find myself in general agreement to Volcompat321's comments on the 360 version. I started out there. Got two characters capped (cap was 80 back in the day) before I just couldn't really be bothered with the general population. I'm not saying the entirety of the userbase sucked, but my general feel of it was that they were crude and rude. I no longer had fun. So I quit.

In contrast, the PC/PS2 crowd has been far more welcoming. I've had plenty of help in catching up level-wise and so on ever since I joined it last summer. Is it dead? ...I guess it could be livelier, but it's still alive. If you can still find people and have fun isn't that what counts? >> If it's not fun anymore, -then- you leave.

out of about 200 cards i recieved in the past 3 months excluding this event. only 18 of them still play. 7 of which i still talk to on a regular as for the rest im completely abysmal to them.

But the reason why im in uni2 so much isnt really to gain new friends ( i'll gladly take them though xD) neither am i seeking attention. However I am looking for the trend this community as its player base is turning into.

I'm not sure how many people still play in my card list. I know there's a lot of empty spaces on mine, and a lot of people that I don't play or even talk with on mine. I pretty much give out my card in case they wish to strike up a friendship, as I'm the kind of guy who doesn't often say "Hey guy I played with yesterday, let's go do something cool!" If someone has my card and sees me online though, by all means ask me if I want to do something. If I'm not busy, I'll help out. Even send me a message if I'm offline, chances are I'm working, sleeping, or found something else to leech my time for a bit (like this past week, played maybe 2 hours all week, as opposed to my 3 or 4 a night). I still log on to check messages and whatnot.

Also, if you want a new friend who's dumb enough to help random people do stuff, feel free to drop me a line.
