View Full Version : Special Item Etiquette?

Is there an etiquette for special Items Im not aware of? I was playing on hard mode last night with a few others I didnt know, and they seemed pretty cool, no body theiving or anything like that, and trades went smooth. But after clearing out a room by MYSELF as the other members of my team were either lagging, or went back to the city, I found an Item named "??SPECIAL ITEM" but just as I went to pick it up another player used his telepipe and came back to the room, and quickly snatched up the item. He claimed that since he was level 35 and I was level 20 it was his by seniority. Am I wrong in thinking I got ripped off? I mean I DID clear the room by myself. Opinions? Ideas?

Usually players have a "first come first serve" mentality about Special Items. IMHO, though, you did have full right to get that item. there is no "seniority" system that I know of, and the guy who got the item probably said that to bully you into submission.
yes!! brother... you got ripped off...
welcome to the dark side of PSO..

If anything I play with the opposite of the seniority rights. If I am playing with a lower level character I let them have just about everything. I'm not a real high level or anything(35), but I still think that lower level characters probably need the stuff a bit more than me.

<font face=times new roman color=red>Seniority my ass...he coulda only had the game for 3 days and lvled up like mad because he had no life lol. Seniority is more a matter of time, NOT lvl. But anyways, that was pretty crappy...times like those are when you should be able to beat up another character http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_biggrin.gif<center>

If you didn't all agree to some sort of looting rules before hand, feel free to take the loot in anyway you want. There's a large range of looting behaviors I've seen: some people smash chests and take loot while everyone else is still fighting; some people wait until the end of the fight to loot chests but they grab any cool monster dropped items as they walk over them in the fray (this is the most common); some don't grab anything, except by mistake, until the room is cleared; some don't grab until the room is cleared and they only take items that their class can use; some don't grab until the room is cleared and they only take what they feel is their share(ex: one item of the four ?SPECIAL WEAPONS? that were dropped); finally some people take nothing http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_razz.gif. Feel free to loot in anyway that you feel is ethical... everyone else does.

that doesnt sound like it would make for a very fun enviroment, if we were all always worried about who's getting what, and someone possibly snatching an item during a fight.

<font face=times new roman color=red>I dont usually grab anything unless i need it right there (healing items, or a weapon I could really use) or if everyone has gotten what they want, I'll grab teh excess to sell for money, but I usually let others take first. I'm just not greedy like some of these other people...lol, you should play with me sometime Manifest http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_wink.gif

A way that has always worked for me is by taking your share. It makes a pretty big statement where your character was alone in a chest room and out of the 6 boxes you only took two. It makes people think when theyre out to "hundred meter dash" you for an item.
Still havent found a way against those people who abandon the fight and get loot, its one thing if you happen to be running by something, but it bother's me when 3 of us are cranking away and the other guys has already taken all the chests in the room....makes you feel jipped.

Oh, I totally agree. The teams would be much more fun with some sort of looting rules everyone subscribed too... but in reality I've only been in one game where anyone has even broached the subject. The only games I've EVER been in where there wasn't at least one person who grabbed monster drops as they walked over them, but before the room was cleared, was on the japanese servers. I don't blame anyone who does that either... I mean if you want to succeed in this game you need to get some rares... and if you want to get a decent supply of them you have to be somewhat grabby or someone else will snatch up everything first. My problem is I'd feel kind of cheap if I snatched everything so I never get much loot, if any, online.
So anyway, Ambrai posted a solution a while back... only play with people you trust and have some sort of pre-agreed apon looting scheme. Then you don't have to stress over how to deal with the goodies, you can just play and have fun.
I hope there will be more discussion on this topic... it could really make the game more enjoyable (maybe even some articles for the new articles section http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_razz.gif).

Yeah playing with friends is always the best.
As you get cards/regulars/close pals, you'll even start holding stuff for them from other games. A little generosity is often remembered.
Those that run off to even separate areas/rooms to grab chests while fights rage IMO are the most likely to also grab your meseta and weapon when you're down. That's exactly what happened in the one case it happened to me.
Keep that in mind.
Don't feel you have to give your card as freely as others do - I've been in a new group of 4 where card swapping will go on.. but I'll only pass to 1 or 2 of them, depending on my impressions. If you're in a loot hungry group, you can't get 'em back more than grabbing as much as you can before they see it, even if it's real simple junky stuff.. how do they know?
Heck they might even get mad, and figure out hey, they've already been acting like that.
But if that doesn't work and you really don't like them? Be cruel, suggest you got special stuff, etc http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_biggrin.gif Maybe they'll even log in ire >:}

IF it drops its fair game unless you go over loot rules before hand. Most of the time when I bring up loot rules people ignore me so I just take anything and everything http://www.pso-world.com/images/phpbb/icons/icon_razz.gif

The only thing that pisses me off is when Im standing on top of an item. I would enjoy picking it up but i cant that instant, usually some idiot runs by and picks it up.
If im standing on it, hands off!
