Trolling is pretty much posting or doing things that would purposely cause a fight or an argument.

Trolling would be posting something like this:

Topic Title: PC is better than 360!

Post: PC is so much better than the 360 version because there's no jerks and no glitchers. Everyone knows on the 360 version it's nothing but 3-year-olds who have to get mommy and daddy's permission to do whatever they want and they swear because their moms and dads aren't watching them and they can do it because they want. If you don't agree with me then you suck and you never played on the PC servers. If you did then you must be an idiot.

In short, doing stuff that, as stated before, purposely causes fights to break out on a message board. I might be wrong in saying this, but it's called trolling because when people attack back, it's called "flaming," and in fantasy stuff Trolls can usually only be defeated by fire. Hence flaming, trolling, flame bait, flame war, etc.

As long as you have an open mind and don't post stuff like what I used as an example on a regular basis, you're fine. If you say something like "I don't like playing on the 360 server personally. Here's why:" then you're fine. "I hate the 360 server because you're a jerk" is trolling.

No problem, just trying to help an internet newbie out. If you frequent these boards and notice that a topic has a red checkmark or a lock symbol on it, it usually means it was having flaming going on there (people who argue back and forth about something that's probably more trivial than it really is), it was trolling, or it was something else against the ToS for the site. That's stuff you want to keep away from doing (but everyone needs to blow some steam once in a while, so if you make an angry post one time it's not going to kill you. They'll probably just move it to the rants section unless it's extremely bad).

Trolling is starting beef with someone or others for the sake of making them miserable for your own pleasure.

Example: In a Final Fantasy Board, "FF sucks, and you people are stupid for thinking it's a great series"

The GameFAQs boards have a lot of similar trolling. Esp. between consoles.
