Double Sabers are my all time favorite weapon in PS. I do not know why, sure they are over used but I cannot help it, I love them! I decided to hunt some rare ones, of course I started at The HIVE- Dark Satellite S, I was looking for the ever elusive Carriguine-Rucar. I was going to keep doing runs until I found it!
My first run, I kept finding A rank Whips and guns, it wasnt looking good. I went the whole first area without finding anything exciting. Then the second area...nothing. I was starting to have PSU flashbacks. (LOL)
I started the third area and then BAM! I got a Demolition Comet (A Rank)! Holy crap, it is such an awesome looking weapon. I got all giddy and excited. I equiped it, even though it is 23% ice, and continued on. Less then 50 seconds later I found Crea Doubles (S Rank)! WOW! I equipped them as well and didn't even care about their lack of element.
Then came the bosses, I had a blast killing them with my new double sabers and then just about jumped for joy when there dropped a 49% Thunder CARRIGUINE-RUCAR! WOOOOOOHOOO!!!
All from just ONE S Rank run of Dark Satellite!
I am taking pics with my phone as I type this as 'proof'! Man, I NEVER ever imagined I would get em that fast! *Dances*
Ok here are the pics:

I remember getting it on my first try in PSU: AOI in offline mode (and the lack of a credit card is kiling my chances of playing that online). It's a personal fav of mine. I hope to find one a light or a dark version myself.

Yeah, Light or Dark would have been AWESOME! I can't really complain though with 49% Thunder!
...I am going to go stare at it in disbelief some more.

The drops in this game are just way too easy. It's kinda sad, I liked it better when it actually took some time to get the drop you wanted, rather than it dropping in 4-5 runs tops :-/

Portable...seems a few here don't understand the term.
Why would they make it so you get a rare like off PSU (which can be 40-50+ runs (or more 97 for my LKK). You would be charging the damn battery every 15 runs.

Portable just means you can play it on the road, it SHOULDNT mean you always get uber rares on the road.

Yes but 1)The percents aren't always so good for the higher weapons, 2) To get them you have to get to a level high enough to run the mission (and that starts at 55 and only gets higher) and 3) Phantasy Star Portable is aimed more for quick fun and therefore easy accessability to the better gear. Besides, if you want to spend that long hunting something play the console/PC game online, or play Monster Hunter. You could even play PSO.
It isn't like you even need the S-ranks anyways in this, they just look cool. I can run into an S mission armed with an A-rsnk store whip, Visshi Grudda at 11+, and either an A-rank store RCSM or an A-rank store TCSM with Resta and Reverser and come out fine. Of course some Photon Charges would be brought too, and some Scapes just in case, but still.

I still disagree. I know you dont NEED the s ranks at this point, but if there were DLC it would be best to have them obviously (DLC unconfirmed I know). And I dont want to pay for PSU online, but I like the PSU style play better than PSO. I just like the easy switch palette, and the class system, as well as the skills. Monster Hunter I tried, but I wasnt really a fan of.
I'm not saying I dont like PSPo because of the fact that the rares are easy to get, I just feel like it should have been a bit higher than it is. I remember back in the day of PSU before AoTI i had never seen an S rank board or anything drop, in here I sell the S ranks I dont need because if I should ever need them, i could just go back and find them again.
Leveling is also easy so that argument kinda fails, no offense. I got 1-30 on a new character in a an hour or two it doesnt take long. Not to mention i was a force and i didnt use any melee weapons cause I would rather it take long and level up my skills.
IDK today I picked up a 13* in like the first run I did. I mean I could have been really lucky or something, but somehow i doubt that's what happened.

Once you get to Level 60 the leveling really slows done.

I'm level 80 :P its not that slow lol and I feel like its worthless to level anyways because any weapon I pick up i can use. Any boss I fight I can solo.

It's a portable game. Although it does have limited online mode, it's clearly mainly designed for solo play.

True. I think the mainly designed for solo play works in conjunction to the fact that there is no real infrastructure mode in the game. So the idea is that a good majority of buyers will play mostly alone.
Funny enough, at 60 levelling slows down a bit, but more for this US version. In the japanese version, a player could technically level up much quicker due to the lower level reqs for a few specialty download missions which had insane exp awards. The good was a few additional end-game missions that were tougher...the bad is that as long as they remain capped at 100/10, you'll run out of character levelling at a very accelerated rate. (Kind of was fast for class levels too).

I don't want to spend hundreds of hours on a solo game and see only a fraction of the items that you can get. I think that's stupid, even if you wanted to have an e-peen compeition with everybody else it's not like you can just whip out your biggest junk right in front of a crowd of random people in an online lobby. The things you collect only matter in that it gets you close to having seen everything the game has to offer, and I would like to do that before I die.
Think of the people who play that don't go to the internet for what rares drop and where and for who. Even if they only have to play every mission as every class a couple of times, that's a HUGE time investment as compared to any PSP game outside of Monster Hunter and Disgaea (ohhh the item dungeons)
If you to be special to other Portable players, think of this: there's gotta be SOMETHING if just one decent-looking item that any given player doesn't have even if they spend a lot of time playing through some combination of dumb luck, inattention, whatever. Maybe you pull out a Mizurakihoh and they're like "wow, that's pretty". Personally I'll probably never find a Demolition Comet... I always mean to go get one but they're sort of out of the way now and I'm still hunting stuff to make my dude more powerful rather than just for looking cool.

Well, for some, if not most ppl on here, have some trouble finding items their hunting for. For me, I still cant find that Gekkabijin 13* star saber (on my 102th, might I add @.@; ) But yah, overall compared to PSU, PS:P is more accessable for the "casual" player, which is what this game was ment for. Another person on here said that this game isnt ment to spend most of your time on. In fact, originally this game was supposed to be used to get a broader range of players interested in the whole PSU franchise, and eventually have them join the real online game.
And think of it this way: if PS:P was just like PSU in terms of grinding and hunting, alot of casual ppl would be turned off by that aspect, and Sega's initial plan of collecting more customers would fail.
Edit: Oh, Panzer, i found a demolition comet from one of the Hive Levels, the bird seed enemy at rank B. Got mine at only 24% Ice though. Hopefully that helps :D
