In preparation for Japan's upcoming AOTI supplemental update, an item design contest will be running from March 26 through May 7. There will be two categories to this contest: weapons and clothing/parts. From each category, a first, second, third and honorable mention winner will be selected, and the winning items will be featured on the official site as well as added to the game. (You must have the PC version to take advantage of the new items; they will appear in the PS2 version as default weapons/clothes/parts.)

Once the site updates again next week, a template will be added that you can download for use with designing clothes and parts.

Heh, this could be interesting. Let's hope for some goodies.
On the other hand, all they way in May means this supplement ain't gonna be implemented until at least summer in JP. US & EU in 2010!

Nah, the supplemental update will likely be soon, as it's intended to be something spread out over time. But yeah, these new items will be a summer thing for JP.

Yeah, it'd be nice if non-JP users could submit designs, but I'm expecting that won't be the case :disapprove:

if i was on that server id give sega 1 better.
if give them the 3D model created in Maya. might not work that well with sega since a lot of their items are flat (extrusion? lol)

oh well. should be interesting none the less

This is my type of contest.
If i had the power to add the creativity from others in game i would.

Looking forward to the outcome of this.

It doesn't say specifically, but I'm sure we'll find out next week when the entry form is added to the site. I'm sure it'll probably require some of your account information for submissions to be accepted.

I really hope they do allow non-JP players to submit stuff. I'm not one to complain usually (go ahead and look at my posts, rarely do I not try to look at the bright side) but I feel like Sega's really giving us the (illusionary) shaft when it comes to people outside of Japan playing anything Phantasy Star. First the Portable version has no import from the PC/PS2/360 servers, then it doesn't have downloadable content, then we don't get the bonus mission, and I will admit, getting stuff that the JP servers had a long time ago "in a month or two" does start to get me upset, especially since the servers would probably be turned off before we get any of this "massive PC download update" stuff.

Just offering my two cents, amidst a bit of a rant. If I could draw at all, I'd make something cool. Instead I have to hope that someone out there makes something really cool that I like that gets picked.

Hopefully entering won't be anything a .co.jp email account won't sort out XP

Don't worry guys, even it restriction to JP only, I will have some of your works go with my accounts. (and some more importers might help on this too. eg. 1 person take 3 works from PSOW)
let's see more detail next week.

Yeah, I'd be tempted to draw up some weapon designs for this if there's a way for non-JP players to enter. We'll see I guess when the details get added next week.

Probably overshadowed by the Supplemental Update, but I noticed the Item Design site has the Templates for male/female characters now.

Anyone who can understand the page(s), is there any mention of entries made from outside of Japan yet?

From the send box, ID isn't in the needed section.
so I guess everybody can send it.

Pretty cool. I might draw up some weapon designs then. Doubt I'll be able to throw together a decent clothing design, as I'm not great at drawing people (and the template is a blank silhouette, so it'd look odd without me drawing the person in).

Still, this'd be a good chance to practice my drawing skills that I haven't used since University >_>

Ah, shame I can't draw. I'm sure I could come up with a thing or two I'd like implemented, at least on female fleshies.

Regardless, I'd like to see what pops up from this. I'd like to see some of the ideas the fans have out there.

I've been owrking on something for either female humanoids, or a clothing-style set for cast females. It's kind of a redux on Alys' clothes in PS4, but with (hopefully) some tweaks to it. I drew it at work without looking to reference anything while doing it, I just hope I didn't make it too similar that I'd need to redo it.

Thankfully my drawing skills are crap, so maybe that will make it different enough...? Anyway, it's a red cloak/shirt-kinda thing, with some baggy pants that the legs tuck into some armored boots. There's some chest armor, too, but nothing massive and bulky. There's also a belt-sash-thing around the waist with some ends that hang off that would trail as you run around (like the "long twin ponytails" hair for females), and some fingerless gloves with a metal plate on the back of the hand. Like I said, I'm going for a mesh of the old PS series' style with something that looks more modernized.

...Hey, at least it's better than the male Rappy-powered cast parts that I originally had. Plus, someone could do THAT a lot better than me.
