I'm driving myself nuts trying to find a solution to why I can't get this to work.

I'm getting the "Gameguard could not connect to update server" errror when trying to run Network Mode OR Story mode. It's like it doesn't even try to connect, the little gameguard box pops up for a split second and goes away. I tried disabling all of my firewalls and that does not seem to help. I'm not sure if Gameguard is somehow blocked as I don't know how to check programs/files that are blocked... pleeaaaase someone find me a solution to this. x_x

I think I had that before try restarting your comp or try again latter.

I've tried that multiple times, and I'm totally lost at this point. I sent a support ticket so hopefully someone there is familiar with the issue, as I've searched everywhere and no one seems to have a real solution for me. And as luck would have it, I'm reading on the official boards that the GMs are backed up on their support tickets. Guess I can say goodbye to trying to get a Love Inferno--if I'll ever even get the game to run.

1) Don't forget to install DirectX from the DVD. It's a bunch of runtime files that PSU needs.

2) Modify the executable properties to do the following:

Run online.exe, PSU.exe, option.exe, and PSUOffline.exe in Administrator mode with Windows XP SP 2 Compatibility.

3) Run PSU in 640 x 480. I remember there was some issue with the widescreen format when running PSU for the first time. After downloadnig the patch files for GG and PSU, you can quit out of PSU and modify the resolution back to the one you desire.

4) Make absolutely certain to turn off ALL Antivirus software. Avast in my experience is the least intrusive. At worst, uninstall it.

5) Check Vista's HOSTS file (don't know the path for it), make sure it's not being redirected to 127.0.0.1.

That's all. I personally don't have Vista 64-bit because I don't want to deal with compatibility headaches like you're dealing with. But I know people are desperate to run with more than 3 GB RAM - I wish they made the transition to 64-bit painless.

Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply...I checked my hosts file and this is on the bottom:

127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost

I'm assuming since you said to make sure it's not being redirected to 127.0.0.1, this could be a problem, right?

Remove the second entry ( ::1 localhost) - that's a dummy entry caused by Windows Defender - this is a known issue that causes problems in Windows Vista. You can thank Microsoft for fucking it up.

Ok, I removed that, anything else I need to do? PSU Still doesn't seem to work. :/

It really does seem like you need to update your DirectX, as a previous poster mentioned. If the window that shows the game doesn't even pop up then, that's most likely the problem.

Incase you did update the DirectX:
You wouldn't by chance be running PeerGuardian are you? If you are, you may have to force the program to allow PSU to connect online. I have PG and had to allow about 4 different IP addresses from the SEGA AMERICA patch servers to play the game.

If you are not, I would again check for any running anti-virus/anti-spyware/firewalls that may be preventing the game from connecting.

Good luck
